Righteousness is not that you turn your faces towards the east or the west, but righteousness is in one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, and the Prophets, and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask (for help), and for freeing slaves; and establishes prayer and gives zakah; those who fulfill their promise when they promise; and the patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.

And he narrated to us: Ishaq narrating from Abdul Razak, narrating from Mamir, from Abdul Karim Al-Jazari, from Mujahid, that Abu Dharr asked the Prophet not about faith. He recited to him: 'Righteousness is not that you turn your faces towards the east or the west, but righteousness is in one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, and the Prophets, and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask (for help), and for freeing slaves; and establishes prayer and gives zakah; those who fulfill their promise when they promise; and the patient in adversity and hardship and at the time of battle. And Ibn Battha narrated with his chain from Mubarak bin Hassan, who said: 'I said to Salim Al-Aftas: A man obeyed Allah and did not disobey Him, and a man disobeyed Allah and did not obey Him. So the obedient one to Allah was entered into Paradise, and the disobedient one to Allah was entered into the Fire. Do they differ in faith?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'And I mentioned that to Ata, so he said: 'Ask them: is faith pure or impure? For indeed Allah said: Allah distinguishes the impure from the pure and piles the impure upon each other and places them all in Hell. Those are the losers.'
