يَسْتَذِنُكَThey seek permission from youالَّذِينَwhoيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِاللَّهِin Allahوَالْيَوْمِand the Dayالْآخِرِof the Lastأَنْtoيُجْهِدُواstruggleبِأَمْوَالِهِمْwith their wealthوَأَنفُسِهِمْand their selvesوَاللَّهُand Allahعَلِيمٌis All-Knowingبِالْمُتَّقِينَof the righteous
They seek permission from you, those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, to struggle with their wealth and their selves, and Allah is All-Knowing of the righteous.
إِنَّمَاIndeedيَسْتَذِنُكَthey seek permission from youالَّذِينَthose whoلَاdo notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِاللَّهِin Allahوَالْيَوْمِand the Dayالْآخِرِof the Lastوَارْتَابَتْand their hearts are filled with doubtقُلُوبُهُمْtheir heartsفَهُمْso theyفِيinرَيْبِهِمْtheir doubtيَتَرَدَّدُونَthey hesitate
Indeed, those who do not believe in Allah and the Day of the Last, and their hearts are filled with doubt, they hesitate in their doubts.
وَهَذِهِAnd thisالْآيَةُverseمِثْلُis likeقَوْلِهِHis sayingلَاDo notتَجِدُyou findقَوْمًاa peopleيُؤْمِنُونَwho believeبِاللَّهِin Allahوَالْيَوْمِand the Dayالْآخِرِof the Lastيُوَادُّونَthey ally withمَنْthose whoحَادُواopposeاللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُand His Messenger
And this verse is like His saying: 'Do not find a people who believe in Allah and the Day of the Last who ally with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger.'
وَقَوْلُهُAnd His sayingوَلَوْAnd ifكَانُواthey wereيُؤْمِنُونَbelievingبِاللَّهِin Allahوَالنَّبِيِّand the Prophetوَمََاand whatأُنزِلَwas revealedإِلَيْهِto himمََاthey would notاتَّخَذُوهُمْtake themأَوْلِيَاءَas allies
And His saying: 'And if they were believing in Allah and the Prophet and what was revealed to him, they would not take them as allies.'
بَيْنَIt is clarifiedسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himأَنْthatالْإِيمَانَfaithلَهُhasلَوَازِمَrequirementsوَلَهُand hasأَضْدَادٌoppositesمَوْجُودَةٌthat existتَسْتَلْزِمُwhich necessitateثُبُوتَthe establishmentلَوَازِمِهِof its requirementsوَانْتِفَاءِand the negationأَضْدَادِهِof its opposites
It is clarified, glory be to Him, that faith has requirements and has opposites that exist which necessitate the establishment of its requirements and the negation of its opposites.
وَمِنْAnd fromمَوَادَّةٍthe allianceمِنْof those whoحَادُواopposeاللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُand His MessengerوَمِنْAnd fromأَضْدَادِهِthe oppositesاسْتِئْذَانِهِمْhis seeking permissionفِيinتَرْكِleavingالْجِهَادِthe struggleثُمَّThenصَرَّحَHe statedبِأَنَّthatاسْتِئْذَانَهُhis seeking permissionإِنَّمَاis onlyيَصْدُرُissuedمِنَfromالَّذِينَthose whoلَاdo notيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِاللَّهِin Allahوَالْيَوْمِand the Dayالْآخِرِof the LastوَدَلَّAnd it indicatesقَوْلُهُHis sayingوَاللَّهُand Allahعَلِيمٌis All-Knowingبِالْمُتَّقِينَof the righteous
And from the alliance of those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, and from its opposites is his seeking permission in leaving the struggle; then he stated that his seeking permission is only issued from those who do not believe in Allah and the Day of the Last, and it indicates that Allah is All-Knowing of the righteous.
وَمِنْAnd fromهَذَاthisالْبَابِcategoryقَوْلُهُis His sayingلَاDo notيَزْنِcommit adulteryالزَّانِيthe adultererحِينَwhenيَزْنِيhe commits adulteryوَهُوَwhile he isمُؤْمِنٌa believer
And from this category is His saying: 'Do not commit adultery, the adulterer when he commits adultery while he is a believer.'
وَقَوْلُهُAnd His sayingلَاDo notيُؤْمِنْbelieveمَنْwhoلَاdoes notيَأْمَنُfeel safeجَارَهُhis neighborبَوَائِقُهُmischiefs
And His saying: 'Do not believe who does not feel safe for his neighbor from his mischiefs.'
وَقَوْلُهُAnd His sayingلَاDo notتُؤْمِنُواbelieveحَتَّىuntilتَحَابُّواyou love each other
And His saying: 'Do not believe until you love each other.'
وَقَوْلُهُAnd His sayingلَاDo notيُؤْمِنْbelieveأَحَدُكُمْanyone of youحَتَّىuntilأَكُونَI amأَحَبُّmore belovedإِلَيْهِto himمِنْthanوَلَدِهِhis childوَوَالِدِهِand his parentوَالنَّاسِand peopleأَجْمَعِينَaltogether
And His saying: 'Do not believe anyone of you until I am more beloved to him than his child, his parent, and all people altogether.'
وَقَوْلُهُAnd His sayingلَاDo notيُؤْمِنْbelieveأَحَدُكُمْanyone of youحَتَّىuntilيُحِبُّhe lovesلِأَخِيهِfor his brotherمِنَthe goodمَاwhatيُحِبُّhe lovesلِنَفْسِهِfor himself
And His saying: 'Do not believe anyone of you until he loves for his brother the good that he loves for himself.'
وَقَوْلُهُAnd His sayingمَنwhoeverغَشَّنَاdeceives usفَلَيْسَhe is notمِنَّاof usوَمَنand whoeverحَمَلَtakes upعَلَيْنَاagainst usالسِّلاَحَthe weaponفَلَيْسَhe is notمِنَّاof us
And His saying: 'Whoever deceives us, he is not of us, and whoever takes up weapons against us, he is not of us.'
فَصْلٌSectionوَأَمَّاAnd as forإِذَاifقُيِّدَthe confinementالْإِيمَانُof faithفَاقْرِنْis coupledبِالْإِسْلاَمِwith Islamأوorبِالْعَمَلِwith righteous deedsالصَّالِحِgoodفَإِنَّهُthen itقَدْhasيُرَادُwhat is meantبِهِby itمَاwhatفِيinالْقَلْبِthe heartمِنَofالإِيمَانِfaithبِاتِّفَاقِby agreementالنَّاسِof the peopleوَهَلand whetherيُرَادُis meantبِهِby itأَيْضًاalsoالْمُعَطَّفَةُthe appendedعَلَيْهَاto itوَيَكُونَand it isمُتَّفَقٌagreed
Section: And as for if the faith is confined is coupled with Islam or with righteous deeds, then what is meant by it is what is in the heart of faith by agreement of the people; and whether the appended is meant also is agreed.
