Abu Ishaq also said: The reality of faith in language is affirmation, and that is not realized except by knowledge and complying, and indications and submission take the place of expression.

Abu Ishaq also said in the book of names and attributes: They agreed that what deserves the accountable the name of faith in the Sharia are many attributes and different beliefs, and although they disagreed in it on details they mentioned, and they disagreed in adding what does not enter into the total affirmation to it for the correctness of the name.

Among them is leaving the killing of the messenger and leaving harming him, and leaving magnifying idols; this is from the abstentions, and among the actions is assisting the messenger and defending him.

And they said: That all of it is legally attributed to the affirmation, and others said: That it is from the major sins, and that a person does not exit from faith by contradicting it.

I said: And these two statements are not the statement of Jahm, but whoever said that, has acknowledged that it is not just the affirmation of the heart, and it is not one thing. And he mentioned that the Sharia acts in it, and this destroys their basis. And therefore, the clever ones among them like Jahm, the Salihis, Abu al-Hasan, and the judge Abu Bakr stated that the name of faith does not remove from him except by the removal of knowledge from his heart.

Abu al-Maali said: Chapter in mentioning the names and the rules: Know that our goal in this chapter necessitates the introduction of mentioning the reality of faith; he said, and this is what the sects among Muslims have differed in, then he mentioned the saying of the Khawarij, the Mu'tazila and the Karamiyyah, then he said: As for the sects of our companions, they became the people of verification from the companions of Hadith and contemplation among them to assert that faith is the affirmation, and this was said by our Sheikh Abu al-Hasan, may God have mercy upon him, and he differed in his opinion regarding the meaning of affirmation; and he said once that it is knowledge of His existence, His eternality, and His divinity, and he said again: affirmation is a statement in the self, but it includes knowledge. It is not valid to exist without it, and this is its implication. For the affirmation and denial, and truthfulness and falsehood by statements are more deserving. Thus, the affirmation is a statement in the self expressed by it by the tongue; then worship is described as being an affirmation.
