ٱلْفِقْهُThe jurisprudenceٱلْأَكْبَرُthe greatestعَذَابٌpunishmentٱلْقَبْرِof the graveحَقٌّis trueلِلْكَافِرِينَfor the disbelieversكُلَّهُمْall of themوَلِبَعْضِand for someعُصَاةٍsinnersٱلْمُسْلِمِينَof Muslims

The greatest jurisprudence is that the punishment of the grave is true for all disbelievers and for some sinners of the Muslims.

ٱنْتَهَىIt has ended**وَقَالَAnd he saidفِيinبَحْرِthe seaٱلْكَلَامِof speech

It has ended.* And he said in the sea of speech:

ثُمَّThenٱلْمُؤْمِنُthe believerعَلَىis onوَجْهَيْنِtwo facesإِنIfكَانَhe isمُطِيعَاًobedientلَاnoيَكُونُthere will beلَهُfor himعَذَابٌpunishmentٱلْقَبْرِthe graveوَيَكُونُand he will haveضَغْطَةٌits pressure

Then the believer is on two faces: If he is obedient, there will be no punishment for him in the grave, and he will have its pressure.

وَإِنAnd ifكَانَhe isعَاصِياًsinfulيَكُونُthere will beلَهُfor himعَذَابٌpunishmentٱلْقَبْرِthe graveوَضَغْطَةُand the pressureٱلْقَبْرِof the grave

And if he is sinful, there will be punishment for him in the grave and the pressure of the grave.

لَكِنButيَنْقَطِعُit will ceaseعَنْهُfrom himعَذَابُthe punishmentٱلْقَبْرِof the graveيَوْمَon the dayٱلْجُمُعَةِFridayوَلَيْلَتِهِand its nightثُمَّthenلَاnoيَعُودُit returnsٱلْعَذَابَthe punishmentإِلَىtoيَوْمِthe dayٱلْقِيَامَةِof resurrection

But the punishment of the grave will cease from him on Friday and its night, then the punishment will not return until the Day of Resurrection.

وَإِنAnd ifمَاتَhe diesيَوْمَon the dayٱلْجُمُعَةِFridayأَوْorلَيْلَتِهِits nightيَكُونُthere will beلَهُfor himٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentسَاعَةًone hourوَاحِدَةًoneوَضَغْطَةُand the pressureٱلْقَبْرِof the graveثُمَّthenيَنْقَطِعُit will ceaseعَنْهُfrom himٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentوَلَاand notيَعُودُit returnsإِلَىtoيَوْمِthe dayٱلْقِيَامَةِof resurrection

And if he dies on Friday or its night, there will be for him the punishment for one hour and the pressure of the grave, then the punishment will cease from him and will not return until the Day of Resurrection.

وَتَكُونُAnd there will beٱلرُّوحُthe spiritمُتَّصِلَةًconnectedبِٱلْجَسَدِto the bodyوَكَذَاand likewiseإِذَاifصَارَbecomesتُرَاباًdustيَكُونُthere will beرُوحُهُhis spiritمُتَّصِلَةًconnectedبِجَسَدِهِto his bodyفَيَتَأَلَّمُso it suffersٱلرُّوحُthe spiritوَٱلتُّرَابُand the dust

And the spirit will be connected to the body, and likewise, if it becomes dust, his spirit will be connected to his body so that the spirit and the dust will suffer.

وَقَالَAnd he saidفِيinخَزَانَةِthe treasuryٱلرِّوَايَاتِof narrations

And he said in the treasury of narrations:

إِذَاIfكَانَhe isكَافِراًdisbelieverفَعَذَابُهُthen his punishmentيَدُومُlastsإِلَىuntilيَوْمِthe dayٱلْقِيَامَةِof resurrectionوَيُرْتَفَعُand it is elevatedعَنْهُfrom himٱلْعَذَابُthe punishmentيَوْمَon the dayٱلْجُمُعَةِFridayوَشَهْرٍand monthرَمَضَانَRamadanبِحُرْمَةِby the sanctityٱلنَّبِيِّof the prophetعَلَيْهِupon himٱلصَّلَوَاتِthe prayersوَٱلسَّلَامِand peace

If he is a disbeliever, then his punishment lasts until the Day of Resurrection, and the punishment is elevated from him on Friday and in the month of Ramadan by the sanctity of the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

فَإِنIfقِيلَit is saidكَيْفَhowيُوْجَعُdoes it hurtٱللَّحْمُthe fleshفِيinٱلْقَبْرِthe graveوَلَمand notيَكُنْit wasفِيْهِin itٱلرُّوحُthe spiritفَالْجَوَابُthe answer is

If it is said: How does the flesh hurt in the grave while the spirit is not in it? The answer is:

سُئِلَIt was askedٱلنَّبِيُّthe prophetأَنَّهُthat heقِيلَit is saidلَهُto himكَيْفَhowيُوْجَعُdoes it hurtٱللَّحْمُthe fleshفِيinٱلْقَبْرِthe graveوَلَمand notيَكُنْit wasفِيْهِin itٱلرُّوحُthe spirit؟?

The Prophet was asked: It is said to him: How does the flesh hurt in the grave while the spirit is not in it?

فَقَالَHe saidعَلَيْهِupon himٱلسَّلَامُpeaceكَمَاasيُوْجَعُdoes it hurtسِنُّكَyour toothوَلَمand notيَكُنْit wasفِيْهِin itٱلرُّوحُthe spiritكَمَاasفِيinبَحْرِthe seaٱلْكَلَامِof speechوَتَمَامِهِand its completenessهُنَاكَthere

He said upon him peace: As your tooth hurts while the spirit is not in it, as in the sea of speech, and its completeness is there.
