وَجَوْهَرُAnd the essenceوَاللَّهُand Godتَعَالَىthe Exaltedخَالِقٌthe Creatorالأَعْرَاضُof the accidentsوَالجَوَاهِرُand the substancesفَلَا يُوصَفُso it cannot be described
And the essence of God, the Exalted, is the Creator of the accidents and substances, so it cannot be described.
بِهُمَاby themفَإِنْSo ifقِيلَit is saidأَلَيْسَIs it notيُقَالُsaidلَهُto himشَيْءٌsomethingلَاnotكَالأَشْيَاءِlike the thingsفَكَذَٰلِكَthen likewiseقُلْنَاwe saidالشَّيْئِيَّةُThe beingعِبَارَةٌis an expressionعَنْofالْوُجُودِexistence
So if it is said to him, 'Is it not said that there is something not like the things?' then likewise we said that being is an expression of existence.
يُقَالُis saidجَسَدٌa bodyلَاnotكَالأَجْسَامِlike the bodies
It is said that a body is not like the bodies.
فِيInنَفْيِthe denialالْوُجُودِof existenceوَذَاand thisلَاnotيَجُوزُis permissibleوَلَيْسَand is notالْجَسَدُthe bodyبِمَثَابَتِهِto be equivalentأَلَا تَرَىdo you not see that it
In the denial of existence, and this is not permissible, and the body is not to be equivalent; do you not see that it.
وَيُقَالُand it is saidلَهُto himلَأَنَّهُbecause itلَاnotيُقَالُis saidالْكَلَامُthe speechجَسَدٌbodyشَيْءٌsomethingعِبَارَةٌis an expressionعَنْofوُجُودِهِhis existence
And it is said to him that because the speech is not said to be a body, it is something that is an expression of his existence.
يَجُوزُis permissibleلِلْمَعْدُومِfor the non-existentأَنْthatيُقَالَis saidشَيْئًاsomethingخِلَافًاcontrary to
It is permissible for the non-existent to be said to be something contrary to this.
هَذَاThisقُلْنَاwe saidأَنَّهُthat itوَعَنْand aboutلِلْمُعْتَزِلَةِto the Mu'tazilahفَإِنْSo ifقِيلَit is saidإِيْشٌWhatتَقُولُونَdo you sayفِيinقَوْلِهِhis sayingتَعَالَىthe ExaltedخَلَقْتُهُI created himبِيدَيَّwith my hands
This we said that to the Mu'tazilah, so if it is said, 'What do you say in His saying the Exalted, I created him with My hands?','
قُلْنَاwe saidالْيَدُthe handصِفَةٌis an attributeوَصَفَHe describedبِهَاwith itنَفْسَهُHimselfوَنُؤْمِنُand we believeبِهَاin itوَبِكُلِّand with allأَوْصَافِهِHis attributes
We said the hand is an attribute with which He described Himself and we believe in it and in all His attributes.
وَعَلَىAnd regardingأَنْthatتَأْوِيلِthe interpretationالْيَدِof the handصِفَةٌan attributeوَغَيْرِهَاand othersمِنَfromالْوَجْهِthe faceوَالْعَيْنِand the eyeوَالْقَدَمِand the footوَهُوَand it isالْقُدْرَةُthe abilityوَالْقُوَّةُand the mightلَأَنَّbecauseزَوَالَthe absenceهَذِهِof theseالأَشْيَاءِthingsفِيinالْخَاصَةِspecificsتَوَجَّبَتْbrings aboutالضُّعْفُweaknessوَزَوَالُand absenceالْقُوَّةِthe powerوَاللَّهُand Godتَعَالَىthe Exaltedقَوِيٌّis Strongبِدُونِwithoutالْجَوَارِحِthe limbsوَالْمُعَطِّلَةُand the negatorsتُنَكِّرُdenyأَنْthatتَكُونَbeالْيَدُthe handوَالْعَيْنُand the eyeوَالْوَجْهُand the faceصِفَةٌattributeاللَّهُof Godتَعَالَىthe Exaltedفَلَاso there is noحَاجَةٌneedلِإِنْكَارِهَاto deny themلَأَنَّbecauseفِيinذَلِكَthatتَعْطِيلٌdenialكَلَامِهِof His wordsوَتَفْوِيتٌand lossصِفَاتِهِof His attributesأَنْthatلَهَاthey haveتَأْوِيلًاa proper interpretationصَحِيحًاcorrectوَالمُشَبِّهَةُand those who liken themطَائِفَةٌa groupمَعَtogether withوَصَفَتْand describedاللَّهَGodعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and Exaltedبِالْيَدِby the handوَالْقَدَمِand the footوَالْخَارِجِيَّةُand the externalistsخَالَفَتْcontradictedكِلَاbothالْفَرِيقَيْنِteams
And we said that the hand is an attribute of God, the Exalted, and there is no need to deny it because denying leads to the nullification of His words and the loss of His attributes, for they have a correct interpretation. And those who liken God described God, the Mighty and Exalted, by the hand and the foot, and the externalists contradicted both teams.
وَقَالَتْAnd they saidالْقَدَرِيَّةُthe Qadaritesوَالْمُعْتَزِلَةُand the Mu'tazilahإِنَّIndeedاللَّهَGodتَعَالَىthe Exaltedفِيinكُلِّeveryمَكَانٍplaceوَandاحْتَجَّتَاthey invoked evidenceبِقَوْلِهِby His sayingتَعَالَىthe Exaltedوَهُوَand He isالَّذِيwhoفِيinالسَّمَاءِthe skyإِلَٰهٌGodوَفِيand inالأَرْضِthe earthإِلَٰهٌGod
And they said, 'Indeed, God, the Exalted, is in every place,' and they invoked evidence by His saying, 'And He is the One who is in the sky, and God in the earth.'
