قَالُواThey saidقُلْنَاWe saidذَٰلِكَthatلِأَنَّbecauseاللَّهَGodلَمْdid notيَقُلْsayفِيinكِتَابِهِHis bookإِنَّهُthat it isمَخْلُوقٌcreatedوَلَاnorقَالَهُsaidرَسُولُ اللَّهِthe Messenger of Godوَلَاnorأَجْمَعَagreedالْمُسْلِمُونَthe Muslimsعَلَيْهِon itوَلَمْand did notيَقُلْsayفِيinكِتَابِهِHis bookإِنَّهُthat it isغَيْرُnotمَخْلُوقٌcreated
They said, "We said that because God did not say in His book that it is created, nor did the Messenger of God say it, and the Muslims did not agree on it, and He did not say in His book that it is not created nor that it is not created."
يُقَالُit is saidلَهُمْto themفَهَلْSo didقَالَHe saidاللَّهُGodعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Almightyلَكُمْto youفِيinكِتَابِهِHis bookقِفُّواstopفِيهِin itوَلَاand do notتَقُولُواsayغَيْرَnotمَخْلُوقٍcreatedوَقَالَand He saidلَكُمْto youرَسُولُ اللَّهِthe Messenger of Godصَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَpeace be upon himتَوَقَّفُواstopعَنْfromأَنْtoتَقُولُواsayإِنَّهُthat it isغَيْرُnotمَخْلُوقٍcreatedوَهَلْAnd didأَجْمَعَagreedالْمُسْلِمُونَthe Muslimsعَلَىonالتَّوَقُّفِstopعَنْfromالْقَوْلِthe statementإِنَّهُthat it isغَيْرُnotمَخْلُوقٍcreated
It is said to them, "Did God Almighty say to you in His book: 'Stop in it and do not say it is not created,' and did the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, say to you: 'Stop from saying it is not created'? And did the Muslims agree to stop from saying that it is not created?"
فَإِنَّIfقَالُواthey saidنَعَمَyesبَهَتُواthey are stunnedوَإِنْAnd ifقَالُواthey saidلَاnoقِيلَit was saidلَهُمْto themفَلَاthen do notتَقِفُواstopعَنْfromأَنْtoتَقُولُواsayغَيْرَnotمَخْلُوقٍcreatedبِمِثْلِby the sameالْحُجَّةِargumentالَّتِيthatبِهَاwith itأَلْزَمْتُمْyou obligedأَنفُسَكُمْyourselvesالتَّوَقُّفَstop
If they said, 'Yes,' they would be stunned, and if they said, 'No,' it would be said to them, 'Then do not stop from saying it is not created with the same argument by which you obliged yourselves to stop.'
ثُمَّThenيُقَالُit is saidلَهُمْto themوَلَمْAnd did notأَبَيْتُمْyou refuseأَنْtoيَكُونَbeفِيinكِتَابِthe bookاللَّهِGodمَاwhatيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonأَنْthatالْقُرْآنَthe Quranغَيْرُnotمَخْلُوقٍcreated
Then it is said to them, 'Did you refuse for there to be in the book of God what indicates that the Quran is not created?'
فَإِنَّIfقَالُواthey saidأَلَمْDid notنَجِدْهُwe find itقِيلَit was saidلَهُمْto themوَلَمْand did notزَعَمْتُمْyou claimedأَنَّكُمْthat youإِذَاifلَمْnotتَجِدُوهُfind itفِيinالْقُرْآنِthe Quranفَلَيْسَthen it is notمَوْجُودٌpresentفِيهِin it
If they said, 'Did we not find it?' it was said to them, 'And why do you claim that if you do not find it in the Quran, then it is not present in it?'
ثُمَّThenإِنَّاindeed weلَوَجَدَهُمْwill find themذَٰلِكَthatوَنَتْلُوand we reciteعَلَيْهِمُupon themالْآيَاتَthe versesالَّتِيthatاحْتَجَجْنَاwe arguedبِهَاwith itفِيinكِتَابِنَاour bookهَذَاthisوَاسْتَدَلَّلْنَاand we provided evidenceعَلَىonأَنْthatالْقُرْآنَthe Quranغَيْرُnotمَخْلُوقٍcreated
Then indeed we will find them and recite to them the verses that we argued with in this book of ours and provided evidence that the Quran is not created.
كَقَوْلِهِLike His sayingعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe AlmightyأَلَـٰهُIs it notالْخَالِقُthe creatorوَالأَمْرُand the commandوَكَقَوْلِهِAnd like His sayingإِنَّمَاIndeedقَوْلُنَاour sayingلِشَيْءٍfor somethingإِذَاwhenأَرَدْنَاهُWe wanted itأَنْtoنَقُولَwe sayلَهُfor itكُنْbeفَيَكُونَand it isوَكَقَوْلِهِAnd like His sayingقُلْSayلَوْIfكَانَwasالْبَحْرُthe seaمِدَادًاinkلِكَلِمَاتِfor the wordsرَبِّيmy Lord
Like His saying, the Almighty, 'Is it not the creator and the command?' And like His saying, 'Indeed, our saying for something is when we want to say for it, 'Be,' and it is.' And like His saying, 'Say, if the sea were ink for the words of my Lord.'
وَسَائِرُAnd allمَاwhatاحْتَجَجْنَاwe arguedفِيinذَٰلِكَthatمِنْofآيَاتِthe versesالْقُرْآنِthe QuranوَيُقَالُAnd it is saidلَهُمْto themيَلْزَمُكُمْyou mustأَنْtoتَقِفُواstopفِيinكُلِّeveryمَاwhatاِخْتَلَفَdifferedالنَّاسُthe peopleفِيهِin itوَلَاand do notتَتَقَدَّمُواadvanceفِيinذَٰلِكَthatعَلَىonقَوْلٍsayingفَإِنَّFor ifجَازَit is permissibleذَٰلِكَthat
And all that we argued with in this from the verses of the Quran, and it is said to them, 'You must stop in everything that the people have differed in and do not advance in that on a saying, for if that is permissible.'
