هُوَHeكَافِرٌis an unbelieverفَقَالَso he saidهَكَذَاthis is howهُوَhe isعِندَنَاwith usثُمَّthenقَالَhe saidأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهAbu Abdullah:نَحْنُweنَحْتَاجُneedأَنْtoنُشَكُّdoubtفِيinهَذَاthisالْقُرْآنَQuran,عِندَنَاwith us،فِيهِin itأَسْمَاءُnamesاللهِof God:وَهُوَand he isمِنْfromعِلْمِknowledgeاللهِof God,فَمَنso whoeverقَالَsays:إِنَّهُthat it isمَخْلُوقٌcreatedفَهُوَhe isعِندَنَاwith usكَافِرٌan unbeliever,فَجَعَلْتُso I keptأُرَدِّدُrepeatingعَلَيْهِto himفَقَالَso he saidلِيto meالْعَبَّاسُAl-Abbasوَهُوَand he isيَسْمَعُlistening:سُبْحَانَGlory be toاللهِGod,أَمَاisn't it enoughيَكْفِيكَfor youدُونَwithoutهَذَاthis؟فَقَالَso he saidأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهAbu Abdullah:بَلَىyesوَذَكَرَand mentionedالْحُسَيْنَAl-Husseinبِنَson ofعَبْدٍAbdالأَوَّلِthe firstقَالَhe said:سَمِعْتُI heardوَكِيعًاWaki'يَقُولُsayingمَنْwhoقَالَsaysالْقُرْآنَthe Quranمَخْلُوقٌis createdفَهُوَif he isمُرَتَدٌan apostateيُسْتَتَابُis to be asked for repentanceفَإِنْifتَابَhe repentsوَإِلَّاand otherwiseقُتِلَhe will be killedوَذَكَرَand mentionedمُحَمَّدًاMohammadبِنَson ofالصَّبَاحِAl-SabahالْبَزَّارِAl-Bazaar:قَالَhe saidعَلِيٌّAliبِنَson ofالْحُسَيْنِHusseinبِنَson ofسُفْيَانَSufyan:قَالَhe saidسَمِعْتُI heardابْنَIbnالْمُبَارَكِAl-Mubarakيَقُولُsaying:إِنَّاwe certainlyنَسْتَطِيعُcanأَنْtoنَحْكِيَspeakكَلَامًاthe speechالْيَهُودِof the Jewsوَالنَّصَارَىand of the Christiansوَلَاand notنَسْتَطِيعُwe canأَنْtoنَحْكِيَspeakكَلَامًاthe speechالْجَهْمِيَّةِof the JahmiyyaقَالَsaidمُحَمَّدٌMohammadتَقُولُyou sayنَخَافُwe fearأَنْtoنَكْفُرَdisbelieveوَلَاand notنَعْلَمُwe know**وَذَكَرَand mentionedهَارُونَHarunبِنَson ofإِسْحَاقَIshaqالْهَمْدَانِيِّAl-HamdhaniعَنْfromأَبِيAbuنَعِيمٍNa'imعَنْfromسُلَيْمَانَSulaimanبِنَson ofعِيسَىIsaالْقَارِيAl-QariعَنْfromسُفْيَانَSufyanالثَّوْرِيِّAl-Thawriقَالَhe saidلِيto meحَمَّادٍHammadبِنَson ofأَبِيof AbuسُلَيْمَانَSulaiman:بَلَغْتُI reachedأَبَاAbuحَنِيفَةَHanifaالْمُشْرِكِthe polytheistأَنِّيthat Iمِنْهُam free from himقَالَhe saidسُلَيْمَانُSulaimanثُمَّthenقَالَsaidسُفْيَانَSufyanلِأَنَّهُbecause heكَانَwasيَقُولُsayingالْقُرْآنَthe Quranمَخْلُوقٌis createdوَذَكَرَand mentionedسُفْيَانَSufyanبِنَson ofوَكِيعٍWaki'قَالَsaid:سَمِعْتُI heardعُمَرَOmarبِنَson ofحَمَّادٍHammadبِنَson ofأَبِيof AbuحَنِيفَةَHanifaقَالَhe saidأَخْبَرَنِيinformed meأَبِيmy fatherقَالَsaidالْكَلَامَthe speechالَّذِيwhichاسْتَتَابَasked for repentanceفِيهِin itابْنَIbnأَبِيof AbuلَيْلَىLailaأَبَا حَنِيفَةَAbu Hanifaهُوَisقَوْلُهُhis statementالْقُرْآنَthe Quranمَخْلُوقٌis createdقَالَhe said:فَتَابَso he repentedمِنْهُfrom itوَطَافَand he circulatedبِهِwith himفِيamongالْخَلْقِthe creationقَالَhe saidأَبِيmy fatherفَقُلْتُso I saidلَهُto him:كَيْفَhowصِرْتَyou becameإِلَىto
He is an unbeliever, he said: This is how he is with us. Then Abu Abdullah said: We need to doubt this Quran with us, in it are the names of God: and it is from the knowledge of God. So whoever says: that it is created, he is an unbeliever with us. I kept repeating it to him, and Al-Abbas said to me while he was listening: Glory be to God, is it not enough for you to have this? Abu Abdullah said: Yes, and he mentioned Al-Hussein ibn Abdullah. The first said: I heard Waki' say: whoever says that the Quran is created is an apostate and must be repented, and if he repents, he will not be killed. Muhammad ibn Al-Sabah Al-Bazaar said: Ali ibn Al-Hussein ibn Sufyan said: I heard Ibn Al-Mubarak say: We can speak the words of the Jews and the Christians, but we cannot speak the words of the Jahmiyya. Muhammad said: You say we fear we might disbelieve, and we do not know. And Harun ibn Ishaq Al-Hamdani mentioned from Abu Nahim from Sulaiman ibn 'Isa Al-Qari from Sufyan Al-Thawri, Hammad ibn Abu Sulaiman said to me: Abu Hanifa was informed that I am free from him. Sulaiman said, then Sufyan said because he used to say that the Quran is created. Sufyan ibn Waki said: I heard Omar ibn Hammad ibn Abu Hanifa say my father told me that the speech for which Ibn Abu Layla sought repentance from Abu Hanifa is his saying that the Quran is created. Then he repented and circulated among the creation. My father said I said to him: How did you become?
