لِجَسَدٍfor a bodyوَلَوْand ifكَانَit wasجَسَدًاa bodyلَجَازَit would be permissibleأَنْtoيَكُونَbeمُتَكَلِّمًاspeakingوَاللَّهُand Allahقَادِرٌcapableعَلَىonقَلْبِهَاturning itوَفِيand inهَذَاthisمَاwhatيَلْزَمُهُمْnecessitates themوَيَجِبُand it is obligatoryعَلَيْهِمْupon themأَنْthatيَجُوزُواthey are allowedأَنْtoيُقَلِّبَturnsاللَّهُAllahالْقُرْآنَthe Quranإِنْسَانًاa humanأَوْorجِنًّاa jinnأَوْorشَيْطَانًاa devilتَعَالَىGlorifiedاللَّهُAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and ExaltedأَنْtoيَكُونَbeكَلَامُهُHis speechكَذَلِكَlike thatوَلَوْand ifكَانَit wasنَعَطَىdescriptionsلِجَسَدٍfor a bodyكَلنُعُوتِlike attributesفَاللَّهُthen Allahقَادِرٌis capableأَنْtoيَجْعَلَهَاmake themأَجْسَامًاbodiesلَكَانَthen it would beيَجِبُit is obligatoryعَلَىuponالْجَهْمِيَّةِthe Jahmiyyaأَنْthatيَجُوزُواthey are allowedأَنْtoيَجْعَلَmakeاللَّهُAllahالْقُرْآنَthe Quranجَسَدًاa bodyمُتَجَسِّدًاincarnateيَأْكُلُeatوَيَشْرَبُand drinkوَأَنْand thatيَجْعَلَهُmake itإِنْسَانًاa humanوَيُمِيتَand killوَهَذَاand thisمَاwhatلَاnotيَجُوزُit is permissibleعَلَىuponكَلَامِهِHis speechعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and ExaltedبَابٌChapterمَاwhatذُكِرَmentionedمِنْfromالرِّوَايَةِthe narrationفِيinالْقُرْآنِthe Quran(مَسْأَلَةٌ)(Issue)قَالَsaidأَبُو بَكْرٍAbu BakrأَتَيْتُI cameأَنَاIوَالْعَبَّاسُand Al-Abbasبْنُson ofعَبْدٍAbdالْعَظِيمِthe GreatالْعَنْبَرِيِّAl-Anbariأَبًاto Abuعَبْدِ اللَّهِAbdullahفَسَأَلَso he askedالْعَبَّاسَAl-Abbasبْنُson ofعَبْدٍAbdالْعَظِيمِthe Greatأَبًاto AbuاللَّهَAllahأَحْمَدَAhmadعَبْدًاAbdبْنُson ofحَنْبَلٍHanbalفَقَالَthen he saidلَهُto himقَوْمٌa groupهَاهُنَاhereقَدْperhapsحَدَّثُواthey have narratedيَقُولُونَthey sayالْقُرْآنَthe Quranلَاnotمَخْلُوقٌa created beingوَلَاnorغَيْرَother thanمَخْلُوقٌa created beingهَذَانِكَtheseأَضَرُّmore harmfulمِنَthanالْجَهْمِيَّةِthe Jahmiyyaعَلَىuponالنَّاسَthe peopleوَيْلَكُمْWoe upon youفَإِنَّfor ifلَمْnotتَقُولُواyou sayلَيْسَis notفَقَالُواthen they saidمَخْلُوقٌa created beingفَقَالَthen he saidأَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِAbu Abdullahهَذَانِكَtheseقَوْمٌa groupسُوءٌevilالْعَبَّاسُAl-Abbasمَاwhatتَقُولُyou sayيَاOأَبَاO Abuعَبْدِ اللَّهِAbdullahفَقَالَand saidالَّذِيthat whichأَعْتَقِدُI believeوَأَذْهَبُand I goإِلَيْهِto itوَلَاnotشَكٌّdoubtفِيهِin itأَنْthatالْقُرْآنَthe Quranغَيْرَnotمَخْلُوقٌa created beingثُمَّthenقَالَhe saidسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِGlory be to Allahوَمَنْand whoeverشَكَّdoubtsفِيinهَذَاthisثُمَّthenتَكَلَّمَhe spokeأَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِAbu Abdullahمُسْتَعْظِمًاconsidering it greatلِلشَّكِّfor the doubtفِيinذَلِكَthat
For a body, and if it were a body, it would be permissible to be speaking. Allah is capable of turning it. And in this, what necessitates them, it is obligatory for them to allow that Allah may turn the Quran into a human, or a jinn, or a devil. Glory be to Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, to have His speech be like that. And if it were a description for a body like the attributes, then Allah is capable of making them into bodies; it would be obligatory for the Jahmiyya to allow that Allah could make the Quran into an embodied being that eats and drinks, and that He could make it a human and kill it, and this is not permissible regarding His speech, the Mighty and Exalted. Chapter what has been mentioned from the narration in the Quran. (Issue) Abu Bakr said: I came, I and Al-Abbas, son of Abdul-Azim Al-Anbari, to Abu Abdullah. So Al-Abbas, son of Abdul-Azim, asked Abu Abdullah, son of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, saying to him: A group here have narrated that they say the Quran is neither created nor uncreated. These are more harmful to the people than the Jahmiyya. Woe upon you! If you do not say, “it is not created,” then say, “it is created.” Abu Abdullah said: These are evil people. Al-Abbas said: What do you say, O Abu Abdullah? He said: What I believe and go towards, and there is no doubt in it, is that the Quran is uncreated. Then he said: Glory be to Allah. And whoever doubts in this, then Abu Abdullah spoke, considering it great to doubt in that.
