خِلافَOppositeالعِلْمِknowledgeالَّذِيthatلَاnotيَكُونَto beمَعَهُwith itعِلْمٌknowledgeجَهْلٌignoranceأوorشَكٌّdoubtأوorآفَةٌaffliction
Opposite to knowledge, which is accompanied by ignorance, doubt, or affliction.
وَيَسْتَحِيلُAnd it is impossibleأَنْtoيُوَصَفَbe describedرَبَّنَاOur Lordعَزَّ وَجَلَّGlory be to Himبِخِلَافِopposite toالعِلْمِknowledge
And it is impossible for our Lord, Glory be to Him, to be described as opposite to knowledge.
وَلِذَٰلِكَAnd thereforeيَسْتَحِيلُit is impossibleأَنْtoيُوَصَفَbe describedبِخِلَافِopposite toالْكَلَامِspeechمِنَofالسُّكُوتِsilenceوَالْآفَاتِand afflictions
And therefore, it is impossible to describe Him as opposite to speech such as silence and afflictions.
فَوَجَبَSo it is necessaryلِذَٰلِكَfor thatأَنْthatيَكُونَHe isلَمnotيَزَلْceaseمُتَكَلِّمًاspeakingكَمَاasوَجَبَit is necessaryأَنْthatيَكُونَto beلَمnotيَزَلْceaseعَالِمًاknowing
So it is necessary for Him to have always spoken as it is necessary for Him to have always known.
(دَلِيلٌ(EvidenceآخَرُanotherوَقَالَAnd saidاللَّهُAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّGlory be to HimقُلْSayلَوْIfكَانَwasالْبَحْرُthe seaمِدَادًاinkلِكَلِمَاتِfor the words ofرَبِّيmy Lord
(Another evidence: And said Allah, Glory be to Him: 'Say, if the sea were ink for the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words would be exhausted.
فَلَوْSo ifكَانَتْthere wereالْبِحَارُthe seasمِدَادًاinkكُتِبَتْwere writtenلَنفَدَتْthey would depleteالْبِحَارُthe seasوَتَكَسَّرَتْand the pens would breakالْأَقْلَامُthe pensوَلَمْand notيُلْحَقْwould be reachedالْفَنَاءُthe annihilationكَلِمَاتِthe wordsرَبِّيmy Lordكَمَاasلَاnotيُلْحَقْis reachedالْفَنَاءُannihilationعِلْمٌknowledgeاللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّAllah, Glory be to HimوَمَنْAnd whoeverفَنِيَfadingكَلَامُهُhis wordsلَحِقَتْهُwould resultالْآفَاتُthe afflictionsوَجَرَىand it happenedعَلَيْهِto himالسُّكُوتُsilenceفَلَمَّاAnd whenلَمْnotيُجَزَwould be permittedذَٰلِكَthatعَلَىonرَبِّنَاour Lordعَزَّ وَجَلَّGlory be to Himلَمْnotيَزَلْceaseمُتَكَلِّمًاspeakingلأَنَّهُbecauseلَوْifلَمْnotيَكُنْbeمُتَكَلِّمًاspeakingوَجَبَit is necessaryرَبِّيmy Lord
So if He were not to be speaking, it would be necessary to say that He is silent and subject to afflictions. And our Lord, Glory be to Him, is far above the claims of the jahmiyya (a sect).
فَصْلٌSection
Section
وَزَعَمَتْAnd they claimedالْجَهْمِيَةُthe jahmiyyaكَمَاasزَعَمَتْthey claimedالنَّصَارَىthe Christiansلِأَنَّbecauseالنَّصَارَىthe Christiansزَعَمَتْthey claimedأَنْthatكَلِمَةٌWordاللَّهِof Allahحَوَاهَاwas containedبَطْنِin the wombمَرْيَمَof Maryوَزَادُواand they increasedالْجَهْمِيَةَthe jahmiyyaعَلَيْهِمْagainst themفَزَعَمَتْand they claimedأَنْthatكَلَامَspeechاللَّهِof Allahمَخْلُوقٌcreatedحَلَّincarnatedفِيinشَجَرَةٍtreeكَانَتْthat wasالشَّجَرَةُthe tree
And they claimed, just as the Christians claimed, because the Christians stated that the Word of Allah was contained in the womb of Mary, and the jahmiyya added to that by claiming that Allah's speech is a created thing that incarnated in a tree that was the tree.
