وَذَوقًاand a tasteبِأَنَّthatيَلْمَسُهُit touches

And a taste that it touches?

فَمَنSo whoeverقَوْلَهُمْtheir sayingلَاnoفَيُقَالَit is said to themلَهُمْto them::فَقَدْit hasانْتَفَضَshakenقَوْلُكُمْyour saying

So whoever says no is told: your saying has been shaken.

إِنَّIndeedقَوْلَهُhis sayingوَهُوَand heيُدْرِكُperceivesالأَبْصَارَthe sightsفِيinالْعُمُومِthe generalityكَقَوْلِهِlike his sayingلَاnotتُدْرِكُهُit perceives Himالأَبْصَارُthe sights

Indeed, his saying, and he perceives the sights in general, is like his saying, "the sights do not perceive Him."

(سُؤَال)(Question)إِنْIfقَالَhe saidقَآئِلٌone who saysمِنْهُمْamong them::إِنَّIndeedالْبَصَرَsightفِيinالْحَقِيقَةِthe truthهُوَisبَصَرٌsightالْعَيْنِof the eyeلَاnotبَصَرٌsightالْقَلْبِof the heartقِيلَit is saidلَهُto him

(Question) If one of them said: 'Indeed, sight is in reality the sight of the eye, not the sight of the heart,' it is said to him:

وَلَمْAnd why notزَعَمْتَdo you claimهَذَاthisوَقَدْand it hasوَجَبَit is necessaryسُمِّيَit is namedالْعَيْنَthe eyeالْبَصَرَthe sightأَهْلُthe people ofاللُّغَةِlanguageبَصَرٌsightالْقَلْبِthe heartبَصَرٌsightبَصَرًاsightكَمَاasسَمَّوْاthey namedبَصَرًاsightبَصَرًاsight،,وَإِنْand ifجَازَit is permissibleلَكَto youمَاwhatقُلْتَهُyou saidجَازَit is permissibleلِغَيْرِكُمْto othersأَنْto (that)يَزْعُمُواthey may claimأَنْthatفِيinالْحَقِيقَةِthe truthهُوَisبَصَرٌsightالْقَلْبِthe heartدُونَwithoutالْعَيْنِthe eyeوَإِذَاAnd ifلَمْnotيُجَزَit is permittedهَذَاthisفَقَدْthen it hasأَنْthatالْبَصَرَsightبَصَرٌsightالْعَيْنَthe eyeوَبَصَرٌand the sightالْقَلْبِof the heart

And why do you claim this? And it is necessary to name the sight of the eye as sight. And if it is permissible for you to say this, it is also permissible for others to claim that in reality it is the sight of the heart without the eye. And if this is not permissible, then there is the sight of the eye and the sight of the heart.

(جَوَاب)(Answer)وَيُقَالُAnd it is saidلَهُمْto them::وَإِذَاAnd ifكَانَthere wasأَحَدٌoneالْكَلَامَيْنِof the two sayingsمُعَطَّفًاconjoinedعَلَىonالْآخَرِthe otherكَانَit wasمَعْنَاهُits meaningفَإِنَّThen ifقَالُواthey saidمَعْنَىthe meaningيُدْرِكُperceivesلِأَبْصَارِfor the sightsأَنَّهُthat itيَعْلَمُهَاknows it,,**قِيلَit is saidلَهُمْto them::وَإِذَاAnd ifكَانَthere wasأَحَدٌoneالْكَلَامَيْنِof the two sayingsمُعَطَّفًاconjoinedعَلَىonالْآخَرِthe otherكَانَit wasقَوْلُهُhis sayingعَزَّ وَجَلَّExalted is Heوَهُوَand Heيُدْرِكُperceivesالأَبْصَارَthe sightsمَعْنَاهُits meaningيَعْلَمُهَاknows itفَقَدْSo it hasوَجَبَit is necessaryأَنْthatيَكُونَit isقَوْلُهُhis sayingلَاdoes notتُدْرِكُهُperceive Himالأَبْصَارُthe sightsلَاnotتَعْلَمُهَاknow itوَهَذَاand thisنَفْيٌis negationلِلْعِلْمِof knowledgeلَاnotلِرُؤْيَةِfor the seeingالأَبْصَارِthe sights،,فَإِنَّIfقَالُواthey saidمَعْنَىthe meaningقَوْلُهُhis sayingوَهُوَand heيُدْرِكُperceivesالأَبْصَارَthe sightsأَنَّهُthat itيَرَاهَاsees itرُؤْيَةًseeingلَيْسَis notمَعْنَاهَاits meaningالعِلْمُknowledge**قِيلَit is saidلَهُمْto them

(Answer) And it is said to them: And if one of the two sayings is conjoined to the other, its meaning is then, if they say the meaning perceived for the sights is that He knows it,
