وَجَحَدُوهَاand they denied itاِفْتِرَاءًa falsehoodمِنْهُمْfrom themعَلَىagainstاللَّهِGodقَدْindeedضَلُّواthey have gone astrayوَمَاand they were notكَانُواthey wereمُهَتَدِينَguided
And they denied it as a falsehood against God; indeed, they have gone astray and they were not guided.
أُوصِيكُمْI advise youعِبَادَO servantsاللَّهِof Godبِتَّقْوَىto fearاللَّهِGodعَزَّ وَجَلَّThe Almighty and Exaltedوَأَحَذِّرُكُمْand I warn youالدُّنْيَاthe worldفَإِنَّهَاfor it isحَلَوَةٌsweetخَضِرَةٌgreenتَضُرُّharmsأَهْلَهَاits peopleوَتَخْدَعُand deceivesسَاكِنَهَاits inhabitants
I advise you, O servants of God, to fear God, the Almighty and Exalted, and I warn you about the world, for it is sweet and green; it harms its people and deceives its inhabitants.
قَالَGod saidاللَّهُGodتَعَالَىthe Most High«:وَاضْرِبْand strikeلَهُمْfor themمَثَلًاan exampleالْحَيَاةَof the lifeالدُّنْيَاof this worldكَمَاءٍlike waterأَنزَلْنَاهُWe have sent downمِنَ الْسَّمَاءِfrom the skyفَاخْتَلَطَand it mixedبِهِwith itنَبَاتُvegetationالأَرْضِof the earthفَأَصْبَحَتْand it becameهَشِيمًاdry stubbleتَذْرُوهُthat the winds blow awayالرِّيَاحُthe windsوَكَانَand wasاللَّهُGodعَلَىoverكُلِّeverythingشَيْءٍthingمُقْتَدِرًاcapable
God, the Most High, said: "And strike for them the example of the life of this world, like water which We have sent down from the sky, and it mixed with the vegetation of the earth, and it became dry stubble that the winds blow away; and God is over all things capable."
مَنْwhoeverكَانَwasفِيهاin itفِيinخَيْرِهَاits goodأَعْقَبَتْهُled to himبَعْدَهَاafter itغَيْرَهُanotherوَمَنْand whoeverأَعْطَتْهُgave himمِنْfromشَرَابِهَاits drinkبَطْنًاto his bellyأَعْقَبَتْهُit led himمِنْfromضَرَرِهَاits harmظهرًاto his back
Whoever was in its good, it led to him something else after it; and whoever was given from its drink to his belly, it led him from its harm to his back.
غَرَارَةٌdeceitfulغُرُورٌdeceptionمَاthat whichفِيهاis in itفَانِيَةٌperishingفَانَّand allمَاwhatعَلَيْهَاupon itكَمَاasحَكَمَruledعَلَيْهَاover itرَبُّهَاits Lordبِقَوْلِهِby His sayingإِذْwhenيَقُولُsaid«:كُلُّeveryمَنْwhoعَلَيْهَاupon itفَانَّindeedفَاعْمَلُواworkرَحِمَكُمmay He have mercy upon youاللَّهُGodلِلْحَيَاةِfor the lifeالدَّائِمَةِeverlastingوَالْخُلْدِand immortalityالْأَبَدِeternalفَإِنَّfor indeedالدُّنْيَاthe worldتَنْقَضِيpassesعَنْfromأَهْلِهَاits peopleوَتَبْقَىand remainsالأَعْمَالُthe deedsكَالعَلَائِقِlike necklacesفِيinأَقْرَانِهَاnecksأَهْلِهَاof its peopleوَاعْلَمُواand knowأَنَّكُمْthat you areمَيِّتُونَdeadثُمَّthenإِنَّكُمْindeed you areمِنْfromبَعْدَafterمَوْتِكُمْyour deathإِلَىtoرَبِّكُمْyour Lordرَاجِعُونَreturningلِيَجْزِيَto recompenseالَّذِينَthose whoأَسَاءُواdid wrongبِمَاby whatعَمِلُواthey have doneوَيَجْزِيَand to recompenseالَّذِينَthose whoأَحْسَنُواdid goodبِالْحُسْنَىwith goodnessفَكُونُواso beبِطَاعَةِin obedienceرَبِّكُمْyour Lordعَامِلِينَworkingوَعَمَّاand from what
Deceitful is what is in it; indeed it is perishing. For all that is upon it, as its Lord has ruled over it by saying when He said: "Every one upon it is perishing. So work, may God have mercy upon you, for the life everlasting and the immortality of eternity; for indeed the world passes from its people, and the deeds, like necklaces, remain upon the necks of its people. And know that you are dead; then indeed you are returning after your death to your Lord, to recompense those who did wrong by what they have done, and to recompense those who did good with goodness. So be in obedience to your Lord working, and from what He has forbidden, ending.
بَابٌChapterفِيinإِبَانَةٍclarificationقَوْلِstatementأَهْلِof the peopleالزَّيْغِdeviationوَالْبِدْعَةِand innovationأَمَّاas forبَعْدَafterفَإِنَّindeedمِنَsomeالزَّائِغِينَof those who deviateعَنْfromالْحَقِّthe truthمِنَfromالمُعْتَزِلَةِthe Mu'tazilaوَأَهْلِand the people ofالْقَدْرِthe predestinationمَالَتْhave tiltedأَهْوَاؤُهُمْtheir desiresإِلَىtowardتَقْلِيدِimitationرُؤُسَائِهِمof their leadersوَمِنْand fromمَضَىwho passedمِنْهُمْfrom them
Chapter in clarification of the statement of the people of deviation and innovation: As for after, indeed there are some of the deviants from the truth, from the Mu'tazila and the people of predestination, their desires have tilted towards imitating their leaders and those who have passed away from them.
