The Khawarij are those who commit major sins; as for those who permit disobedience and it has been established with conclusive evidence, they are disbelievers in Allah the Exalted, because permitting it is a denial of Allah and His Messenger. We do not remove from a Muslim who committed a major sin without permitting it (the name of faith), and we actually call him a believer. This indicates the unity of Islam and faith, that is, like the back and the belly. It is permissible for a major sinner to be a believer – a disobedient believer, not a disbeliever. Sinning is the exit from the obedience of Allah the Exalted by committing major sins. The author of Sharia said: 'The major sin is everything considered as an abomination, like sodomy and marrying a married woman of the father, or a punishment for it is established by a conclusive text in this world and the Hereafter.' The Mu'tazila stated that the one who commits a major sin is a disobedient believer, neither a believer nor a disbeliever, and they proved a status between the two states (between disbelief and faith), and wiping over the socks is a Sunnah, meaning its permissibility is established by the well-known Sunnah. So, whoever denies it fears disbelief because it is close to the mutawatir report. The Tarawih prayers in the nights of the month of Ramadan differentiated between faith and Islam by the way of the language, but there is no faith without Islam and there is no Islam without faith; they are like the back and the belly.
