بِالتَّزَيُّدِwith provision
With provision.
فَذَهَبَso has goneالْيَوْمَtodayمَنْhe whoيَعْتَذِرُapologizesبِالْخَيْرِwith good
So today has gone the one who apologizes with good deeds.
وَمَاتَand diedمَنْhe whoكَانَused toيَعْتَذِرُapologizeمِنَforالذَّنْبِthe sin
And died the one who used to apologize for the sin.
قَالَsaidلَبِيدٌLabid
Labid said:
كَامِلٌKamil
Kamil meter.
ذَهَبَgone areالَّذِينَthose whoيُعَاشُit is livedفِيinأَكْنَافِهِمْtheir shelter......وَبَقِيتُand I have remainedفِيamongخَلْفٍa successorكَجِلْدِlike the skinالْأَجْرَبِof the mangy
Gone are those under whose shelter life is sweet... and I remained among successors like the skin of a mangy camel.
وَأَخْبَرَنَاand informed usأَبُوAbuالْعَبَّاسِal-Abbasالْمُبَرِّدُal-Mubarrid
And Abu al-Abbas al-Mubarrid informed us,
قَالَsayingحَدَّثَنِيnarrated to meبَعْضُsomeمَشَايِخِنَاof our teachersقَالَwho said
saying: Some of our teachers narrated to me, saying:
كُنْتُI wasعِنْدَwithبِشْرِBishrبْنِson ofالْحَارِثِal-Harithيَوْماًone day
I was with Bishr ibn al-Harith one day
فَرَأَيْتُهُand I saw himمَغْمُوماًgrievedمَاnotتَكَلَّمَspeakingحَتَّىuntilغَرَبَتِsetالشَّمْسُthe sun
and I saw him grieved, not speaking until the sun set.
ثُمَّthenرَفَعَhe raisedرَأْسَهُhis headوَقَالَand said
Then he raised his head and said:
كَامِلٌKamil
Kamil meter.
ذَهَبَgone areالرَّجُلُthe manالْمُقْتَدَىfollowedبِفِعَالِهِمْin their deeds......وَالْمُنْكِرُونَand those who condemnلِكُلِّeveryأَمْرٍmatterمُنْكَرِreprehensible
Gone are the men whose actions are followed... and who condemn every reprehensible matter.
وَبَقِيتُand I remainفِيamongخَلْفِهِtheir successorsيُزَيِّنُwho adornبَعْضُهُمْsome of themبَعْضاًfor othersلِيَدْفَعَto ward offمُعْوِرٌa flawعَنْfromمُعْوِرِa flawed one
And I remain among successors where some adorn others, so that a flawed one may cover for another flawed one.
وَأَنْشَدَنَاand he recited to usلِغَيْرِهِby someone else
And he recited to us verses by someone else:
كَامِلٌKamil
Kamil meter.
ذَهَبَgone areالَّذِينَthose whoإِذَاwhenرَأَوْنِيthey saw meمُقْبِلاًapproaching......سُرُّواwere gladdenedوَقَالُواand saidمَرْحَباًwelcomeبِالْمُقْبِلِto the one arriving
Gone are those who, when they saw me approaching... were gladdened and said, "Welcome to the arriving one."
وَبَقِيَand remaining areالَّذِينَthose whoإِذَاwhenرَأَوْنِيthey saw meمُقْبِلاًapproaching......عَبَسُواfrownedوَقَالُواand saidلَيْتَهُwould that heلَمْhad notيُقْبِلِapproached
And remaining are those who, when they saw me approaching... frowned and said, "Would that he had not approached."
وَقَالَand saidآخَرُanother
And another said:
خَفِيفٌKhafif
Khafif meter.
ذَهَبَgone areالنَّاسُthe peopleوَاسْتَقَلُّواand departedوَصِرْنَاand we have become......خَلَفاًsuccessorsفِيamongأَرَاذِلِthe dregsالنِّسْنَاسِof mankind
Gone are the people and they have departed, and we have become... successors among the dregs of mankind.
