By His mention, and He favored me over many of those He created.

And when he goes to his bed, he says, 'O Allah, You created my soul, and You take it at death and life. If You hold it, have mercy on it, and if You release it, then protect it with what You protect Your righteous servants. And he says, 'In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.'

Section: And among the diseases of the hearts is envy, as some have said in its definition, indeed it is a harm that attaches because of.

Knowledge about the good condition of the wealthy makes it impermissible for the virtuous to be envious, because the virtuous runs on what is good.

وَقَدْAnd there.قَالَتْhas said.طَائِفَةٌa group.مِنَof.النَّاسِpeople.إِنَّهُIndeed.تَمَنَّىhe desired.زَوَالَthe removal.النِّعْمَةِof the blessing.عَنِfrom.الْمَحْسُودِthe envied.وَإِنْand if.لَمْnot.يَصِرْhappen.لِلْحَاسِدِto the envious.مِثْلُهَاlike it.بِخِلَافٍin contrast to.الْغِبْطَةِthe admiration.فَإِنَّهُfor he.تَمَنَّىdesired.مِثْلَهَاlike it.مِنْfrom.غَيْرٍwithout.حُبٍّlove.زَوَالِهَاits removal.عَنِfrom.الْمَغْبُوطِthe admired.

And there has been said a group of people indeed he desired the removal of the blessing from the envied, and if it did not happen to the envious like it, in contrast to admiration, for he desired like it without love for its removal from the admired.

وَالتَّحْقِيقُAnd the reality.أَنَّis that.الْحَسَدَenvy.هُوَis.الْبُغْضُhatred.وَالْكَرَاهَةُand distaste.لِمَاfor what.يَرَاهُhe sees.مِنَof.حُسْنِthe good.حَالِcondition.الْمَحْسُودِthe envied.وَهُوَAnd it is.نَوْعَانِtwo types.أَحَدُهُمَاone of them.كَرَاهَةٌdistaste.لِلْنِّعْمَةِfor the blessing.عَلَيْهِon him.مُطْلَقًاabsolutely.فَهَذَاThis is.هُوَis.الْحَسَدُthe envy.الْمَذْمُومُthe blameworthy.

And the reality is that envy is hatred and distaste for what he sees of the good condition of the envied, and it is of two types; one of them is dislike for the blessing on him absolutely, and this is the blameworthy envy.

وَإِذَاAnd if.أَبْغَضَhe hates.ذَلِكَthat.فَإِنَّهُthen he.يَتَأَلَّمُfeels pain.وَيَتَأَذَّىand he is harmed.بِوُجُودِby the existence.مَاof what.يُبْغِضُهُhe hates.فَيَكُونُthen it is.ذَلِكَthat.مَرَضًاa sickness.فِيin.قَلْبِهِhis heart.وَيَلَتَذُّand he enjoys.بِزَوَالِwith the removal.النِّعْمَةِof the blessing.عَنْهُfrom him.وَإِنْand if.لَمْnot.يُحَقِّقْhe obtains.لَهُto him.نَفْعًاbenefit.بِزَوَالِهَاfrom its removal.لَكِنْbut.نَفْعَهُhis benefit.بِزَوَالِwith the removal.الْأَلَمِof the pain.الَّذِيthat.كَانَwas.فِيin.نَفْسِهِhimself.

And if he hates that, then he feels pain and suffers from the existence of what he hates; that becomes a sickness in his heart, and he enjoys the removal of the blessing from him, and if he does not obtain benefit from its removal, but his benefit is with the removal of the pain that was in himself.

But this is the envy in which there is no envy except in two cases: a man to whom Allah has granted wisdom, so he judges with it and teaches it, and a man to whom Allah has granted wealth, so he spends it in righteousness. This is the wording of Ibn Mas'ud, and the wording of Ibn Umar is: a man to whom Allah has granted the Quran, so he stands by it at all times, day and night, and a man to whom Allah has granted wealth, so he spends from it.
