بِسْمِIn the name ofاللَّهِGodالرَّحْمَـٰنِThe Most GraciousالرَّحِيمِThe Most Merciful
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
الْحَمْدُAll praiseلِلَّهِis due to GodنَسْتَعِينُهُWe seek His helpوَandنَسْتَغْفِرُهُwe ask for His forgivenessوَنَعُوذُand we seek refugeبِاللَّهِwith Allahمِنْfromشُرُورِthe evilsأَنْفُسِنَاof our own soulsوَandمِنْfromسَيِّئَاتِthe bad deedsأَعْمَالِنَاof our actions
All praise is due to God; we seek His help and forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evils of our own souls and from the bad deeds of our actions.
مَنWhomيَهْدِHe guidesاللَّهُGodفَلَاthen there is noمُضِلٌّmisguidanceلَهُfor him.
Whom Allah guides, there is no misguidance for him.
وَAndمَنwhomeverيُضِلُّHe misguidesفَلَاthen there is noهَادٍguidanceلَهُfor him.
And whomever He misguides, there is no guidance for him.
وَAndأَشْهَدُI bear witnessأَنَّthatلَاthere is noإِلَٰهَdeityإِلَّاexceptاللَّهَGodوَحْدَهُaloneلَاhas noشَرِيكَpartnerلَهُfor Him.
And I bear witness that there is no deity except God alone; He has no partner.
وَAndأَشْهَدُI bear witnessأَنَّthatمُحَمَّدًاMuhammadعَبْدُهُis His servantوَرَسُولُهُand His messenger.صَلَّىMay peace be uponاللَّهُGodعَلَيْهِupon himوَعَلَىand uponآلِهِhis familyوَأَصْحَابِهِand his companionsوَسَلَّمَpeace beتَسْلِيمًاupon him.
And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. May peace be upon him, his family, and his companions.
فَصْلٌSectionفِيonأَمْرَاضِthe diseasesالْقُلُوبِof the heartsوَشِفَائِهَاand their healing.
Section on the diseases of the hearts and their healing.
قَالَAllah saidتَعَالَىThe Exaltedعَنْaboutالْمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocritesالْبَقَرَةِin Surah Al-Baqarahفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a disease.
Allah said about the hypocrites in Surah Al-Baqarah, "In their hearts is a disease."
فَزَادَهُمSo He increased themاللَّهُGodمَرَضًاin disease.
So He increased them in disease.
وَAndقَالَHe saidتَعَالَىThe Exaltedالْحَجِّin Surah Al-Hajjلِيَجْعَلَto makeمَاwhatيُلْقَىis thrownالشَّيْطَانُby Satanفِتْنَةًa trialلِلَّذِينَfor those whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a diseaseوَالْقَاسِيَةِand hardقُلُوبُهُمْtheir hearts.
He said in Surah Al-Hajj, "to make what is thrown by Satan a trial for those who have a disease in their hearts and whose hearts are hardened."
وَAndقَالَHe saidالْأَحْزَابِin Surah Al-AhzabلَئِنْSurely ifلَمْthey do notيَنْتَهُواceaseالْمُنَافِقُونَthe hypocritesوَandالَّذِينَthose whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a diseaseوَالْمُرَجِفُونَand the rumor-mongersفِيinالْمَدِينَةِthe city.
He said in Surah Al-Ahzab, "Surely if the hypocrites and those who have a disease in their hearts, and the rumor-mongers in the city do not cease..."
لَنُغْرِيَنَّكَWe will surely incite youبِهِمْagainst them.ثُمَّThenلَاthey will notيُجَاوِرُونَكَdwell with youفِيَهَاin itإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًاa little.
We will surely incite you against them. Then they will not dwell with you in it except a little.
وَAndقَالَHe saidالْمُدَّثِّرِin Surah Al-MuddathirوَلَاAnd do notيَرْتَابْdoubtالَّذِينَthose whoأُوتُواwere givenالْكِتَابَthe Bookوَالمُؤْمِنُونَand the believers.
He said in Surah Al-Muddathir, "And do not doubt those who were given the Book and the believers."
وَليَقُلِAnd let those sayالَّذِينَthose whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a diseaseوَالْكَافِرُونَand the disbelievers.مَاذَاWhatأَرَادَdid God intendاللَّهُby thisبِهَذَاas a example?
And let those who have a disease in their hearts and the disbelievers say, "What did God intend by this as an example?"
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىThe Exaltedيُونُسَin Surah YunusقَدْIndeedجَاءَتْكُمcame to youمَوْعِظَةٌa lessonمِنْfromرَبِّكُمْyour Lordوَشِفَاءٌand a healingلِمَاfor whatفِيis inالصُّدُورِthe chestsوَهُدًىand guidanceوَرَحْمَةٌmercyلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَfor the believers.
He said in Surah Yunus, "Indeed, a lesson came to you from your Lord and a healing for what is in the chests, and guidance and mercy for the believers."
وَقَالَAnd He saidالْإِسْرَاءِin Surah Al-IsraوَنُنَزِّلُAnd We send downمِنَofالْقُرْآنِthe Quranمَا هُوَwhat isشِفَاءٌa healingوَرَحْمَةٌand mercyلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَfor the believers.وَلَاAnd does notيَزِيدُincreaseالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoersإِلَّاexceptخَسَارًاloss.
He said in Surah Al-Isra, "And We send down of the Quran what is a healing and mercy for the believers. And it increases the wrongdoers only in loss."
وَقَالَAnd He saidالتَّوْبَةِin Surah At-Tawbahوَيَشْفِيand He healsصُدُورَthe heartsقَوْمٍof a peopleمُؤْمِنِينَwho are believers.وَيَذْهَبُAnd He removesغَيْظًاthe angerفِي قُلُوبِهِمfrom their hearts.
He said in Surah At-Tawbah, "And He heals the hearts of a people who are believers and removes the anger from their hearts."
وَمَرَضٌAnd the bodily diseaseالْبَدَنِof the bodyخِلَالَduringصِحَّتِهِits healthوَصَلَاحِهِand righteousness.وَهُوَAnd it isفَسَادٌcorruptionيَكُونُthat occursفِيهِwithin it.يُفْسِدُIt corruptsبِهِby it.إِدْرَاكَهُits perceptionوَحَرَكَتَهُand its natural movement.
And the bodily disease occurs during its health and righteousness. And it is corruption that occurs within it, corrupting its perception and its natural movement.
فَإِدْرَاكُهُSo its perceptionإِمَّاeitherأَنْthatيَذْهَبَit goes awayكَالْعَمَىlike blindnessوَالصَّمَمِand deafness.
So its perception either goes away like blindness and deafness.
وَإِمَّاOrأَنْthatيَدْرِكُit perceivesالْأَشْيَاءِthe thingsعَلَىcontrary toمَاwhatهِيَthey areعَلَيْهِthe way.
Or it perceives things contrary to what they are.
كَمَاJust asيَدْرِكُit perceivesالْحَلَوَاتِsweetnessمُرًّاas bitter.
Just as it perceives sweetness as bitter.
وَكَمَاAnd asيُخَيَّلُit deceivesإِلَيْهِto himأَشْيَاءَthingsلَاwithoutحَقِيقَةٍrealityلَهَاto itفِيinالْخَارِجِthe outside.
And as it deceives him with things that have no reality in the outside.
وَأَمَّاAnd howeverفَسَادُthe corruption ofحَرَكَتِهِits movementالطَّبِيعِيَّةِnaturalفَمَثَلٌso an exampleأَنْis thatتَضْعُفَit weakensقُوَّتَهَاits strengthعَنْinالْهَضْمِdigestionأَوْorمَثَلٌlikeأَنْthatيَبْغَضَit detestsالْأَغْذِيَةَthe foodsالَّتِيthatيَحْتَاجُit needsإِلَيْهَاto.وandيُحِبُّlovesالأَشْيَاءَthe thingsالَّتِيthatتَضُرُّهُharm it.
And regarding the corruption of its natural movement, an example is that it weakens its strength in digestion, or like that it detests the foods that it needs, and loves the things that harm it.
وَAndيَحْصُلُit obtainsلَهُfor itمِنَfromالْآلَامِthe pains.
And it obtains pain.
