God, the Rich, Mahmoud bin Al-Hussein bin Mahmoud bin Ali, nicknamed Abu Hamid.
ٱلْقَاضِيthe judgeٱلْحَنِيفِيُّthe Hanafiٱلْحَنَفِيُّthe Hanafiوَقْتُtimeصَلَاةِof prayerٱلْعَصْرِthe afternoonبِصَحَافِيَّةٍwith the manuscriptشِيرَازَof Shirazحُجَّةًa testimonyخَمْسٍfiveوَandسِتّينَsixtyوَثَمَانِمِيَةٍand eight hundredوَٱلْمُحَرِّرُand the recorderمَرِيضٌillوَأَمْرَهُand his orderعَلَىtoٱلسُّلْطَانِthe Sultanعَرِيضٍwas wideبِثَلاَثِمِائَةٍwith three hundredمُخْفِيَةٍhiddenوَمَهُمَّاتَهُand his important mattersمَكَفِّيَةٌwere sufficientوَٱلْحَمْدُand thanksلِلَّهِto Godرَبٍّthe Lordٱلْعَالَمِينَof the worlds.
The Hanafi judge at the time of the afternoon prayer with the manuscript of Shiraz, a testimony of five hundred sixty-five and eight hundred, and the recorder was ill, and his order to the Sultan was wide with three hundred hidden, and his important matters were sufficient, and thanks be to God, the Lord of the worlds.
تَمَّThenدَخَلَcameفِيintoنَوْبَةِthe shiftٱلْفَقِيرِthe poorإِلَىtoٱللَّهِGodتَعَالَىthe ExaltedمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadٱبْنُson ofمُصْطَفَىMustafaٱبْنُson ofمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadٱبْنُson ofعَبَّادٍAbdallahٱللَّهِGodٱلرُّومِيِّthe Romanٱلْحَنَفِيِّthe HanafiعَفَاForgiveعَنْهُمْthemرَبُّهُمْtheir Lordٱلْعَافِيthe Forgivingفِيinسَنَةٍthe year٩٤٧947
Then came the shift of the poor to God, Muhammad bin Mustafa bin Muhammad bin Abdullah the Roman Hanafi - may their Lord forgive them - in the year 947.
ٱلْحَمْدُPraiseلِلَّهِbe to Godمِنْfromنِعَمِthe blessingsٱللَّهِof Godعَلَىonعَبْدِهِhis servantأَحْمَدَAhmadٱبْنُson ofشَعْبَانَShabanٱلشَّافِعِيِّthe Shafi'i.
Praise be to God for the blessings of God upon His servant Ahmad bin Shaban the Shafi'i.
أَعْلَىٰAt the topٱلصَّفْحَةِof the pageوَandأَسْفَلَهَاat the bottom of itعِبَارَتَانِtwo phrasesبِخَطٍّin a precise scriptفَارِسِيٍّPersianدَقِيقٍfineوَهُمَاand they areمِنْfromتَقْيِيدٍthe recordأَحَدٍone ofقُرَّاءِthe readersٱلنُّسْخَةِof the manuscriptٱلَّذِيwhoعَلَّقَcommentedفِيinمَوَاضِعَplacesمِنْهَاof itكَمَاasسَيَأْتِيwill come.
At the top and the bottom of the page are two phrases in fine Persian script, which are from the record of one of the readers of the manuscript who commented in places of it, as will come.
وَفِيAnd inٱلصَّفْحَةِthe pageنَفْسِهَاitselfجَاءَتْcameٱلْعِبَارَةُthe phraseٱلْآتِيَةُthe next:
And in the page itself came the next phrase:
نُودِيَIt was announcedعَلَىonٱلنِّيلِthe blessed Nileٱلْمُبَارَكَblessedفِيonيَوْمِthe dayٱلثَّلاَثَاءِTuesdayٱلْوَاقِعِoccurredفِيinسَابِعٍthe seventhوَٱلْعِشْرِينَand twentiethكَذَاsuchمِنْofشَهْرِthe monthصَفَرِSafarٱلْمُظَفَّرِthe victorious monthسَنَةٍthe yearثَمَانٍeightوَأَرْبَعِينَand fortyوَتِسْعِمِائَةٍand nine hundred.
It was announced on the blessed Nile on the day of Tuesday occurring in the seventh and twentieth of the month of Safar the victorious year of eight and forty and nine hundred.
لَمْdid notيُذْكَرُmentionٱلنَّاسِخُthe copyistاِسْمُهُhis nameوَلَاnorأَشَارَdid he referإِلَىtoٱلْأَصْلِthe originalٱلَّذِيwhichنُقِلَhe transferredمِنْهُfrom itوَلَمْand did notأَجِدْfindفِيهاin itمِنْfromعَلَامَاتِthe signsٱلْبَلَاغِof proficiencyمَاwhatيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىthatأَنَّهُit wasقَابَلَcomparedٱلنُّسْخَةَthe manuscriptعَلَىonأَصْلِهَاits originوَلَكِنْbutفِيهاin itتَصْحِيحَاتٍcorrectionsقَلِيلَةًfewبِخَطِّهِin his handwriting
The copyist did not mention his name nor did he refer to the original from which he transferred it, and I did not find in it any signs of proficiency that indicate that it was compared with its original, but it contains few corrections in his handwriting.
ثُمَّThenهِيَitقُوبِلَتْwas comparedعَلَىwithنُسْخَةٍanother manuscriptأُخْرَىanotherوَقُيدَتْand documentedٱلْفُرُوقَthe differencesفِيinٱلْحَاشِيَةِthe marginمَعَalong withكِتَابَةِwritingحَرْفِthe letterٱلْخَاءِKhoفَوْقَهَاabove it.
Then it was compared with another manuscript, and the differences were documented in the margin along with writing the letter Kho above it.
وَمِنْAnd fromأَمْثِلَتِهِits examples:(٢/أ)(2/A):فَلَمْSo, did notيُضِيفُوهُمْthey add them.وُضِعَتْA mark was placedعَلَامَةًa markفَوْقَaboveٱلْوَاوِthe letter Wawوَكُتِبَand it was writtenفِيinٱلْحَاشِيَةِthe marginخKhoفَأَبَوْاand they refusedأَنْtoيُضِيفُوهُمْadd them.
And from its examples: (2/A): ‘So, did not they add them?’ A mark was placed above the letter Waw, and it was written in the margin: ‘Kho, and they refused to add them.’
(٢/أ)(2/A):وَقَدْAnd hasأَخْبَرَinformedسُبْحَانَهُthe Glorifiedعَنْaboutٱلْقُرْآنِthe Quranأَنَّهُthat itشِفَاءٌis a healing.وُضِعَتْA mark was placedٱلْعَلَامَةُthe markأَعْلَىٰaboveٱلْجُمْلَةِthe sentence.
And has informed, the Glorified, about the Quran that it is a healing. A mark was placed above the sentence.
