Like His saying: “And fear Me, O you who are endowed with understanding!” [Al-Baqarah/197], and His saying: “So fear Allah, O those who have believed.” [At-Talaq/10], and His saying: “And none remember except the possessors of understanding.” [Al-Baqarah/269]. And the analogs of this are many. And how can one be rational and of abundant intellect if he disobeys the one in whose power he resides and in His home, while he knows that He sees him and observes him, yet he disobeys Him while he is not hidden from Him, and seeks help with His blessings against His wrath, and calls for His anger at every moment, and His curse on him, and His removal from His proximity and driving him away from His door and His disregard toward him, and His abandoning him, and leaving him alone between himself and his enemy, and his falling from His sight and his deprivation of the pleasure of His contentment and love, and the joy of the eyes in His proximity and success in being near Him, and gazing at His face among His beloved ones, with countless multiples of the honor of the people of obedience, and many multiples of the punishment of the people of disobedience? So what intellect is there for one who prefers the pleasure of an hour or a day or an era, then it passes away as if it were a dream that never was, over this everlasting bliss and great victory; rather, it is the happiness of this world and the Hereafter? And were it not for the intellect that establishes proof against him, he would be in the state of the insane, but it may be the insane are in a better state than him and safer in consequence. This is from this aspect. And as for its effect on the deficiency of practical intellect, if it were not for the sharing in this deficiency, it would have been clear for our obedient ones to see the deficiency of intellect in our disobedience; but the calamity is general, and insanity has many forms!
