إلىtoماwhatأكرهI hate
To what I hate.
إلاexceptانتقلتُI transitionedلهto himمماfrom whatيحبّhe lovesإلىtoماwhatيكرهhe hates
Except that I transitioned to him from what he loves to what he hates.
وَلاَAnd notيَكُونُthere beعَبْدٌa servantمِنْofعَبِيدِيmy servantsعَلَىonمَاwhatأَكْرَهُI hateثُمَّthenيَنْتَقِلُhe transitionsعَنْهُfrom himإِلَىtoمَاwhatأُحِبُّI loveإِلَّاexceptانْتَقَلْتُI transitionedلَهُto himمِمَّاfrom whatيَكْرَهُhe hatesإِلَىtoمَاwhatيُحِبُّhe loves
And there is no servant of my servants on what I hate, then he transitions from it to what I love, except that I transitioned to him from what he hates to what he loves.
وَقَدْAnd indeedأَحْسَنَhe did wellالْقَائِلُthe speaker
And indeed, the speaker did well.
إِذَاIfكُنتَyou areفِيinنِعْمَةٍa blessingفَارْعَهَاthen preserve itفَإِنَّfor indeedالْمَعَاصِيthe sinsتُزِيلُremoveالنِّعَمَthe blessings
If you are in a blessing, then preserve it, for indeed the sins remove the blessings.
وَاحْطَهَاAnd place itبِطَاعَةِwith obedienceرَبِّof the Lordالْعِبَادِof the servantsفَرَبُّfor the Lordالْعِبَادِof the servantsسَرِيعٌswiftالنَّقَمِin punishment
And place it with obedience to the Lord of the servants, for the Lord of the servants is swift in punishment.
وَإِيَّاكَAnd bewareوَالظُّلْمَof injusticeمَهْمَاas much asاسْتَطَعْتَyou canفَظُلْمٌfor the injusticeالْعِبَادِof the servantsشَدِيدٌis severeالْوَخْمُin its effects
And beware of injustice as much as you can, for the injustice of the servants is severe in its effects.
وَسَافِرْAnd travelبِقَلْبِكَwith your heartبَيْنَamongالْوَرَىthe peopleلِتُبَصِّرَto perceiveآثَارَthe tracesمِنْof those whoقَدْhaveظَلَمَwronged
And travel with your heart among the people to perceive the traces of those who have wronged.
وَلاَAnd notتُنْهَمْbe burdenedفَتِلْكَfor thoseشُهُودٌare witnessesعَلَيْهِمْagainst themمَسَاكِنُهُمْtheir dwellings
And do not be burdened, for those are witnesses against them at their dwellings.
وَمَاAnd nothingكَانَwasشَيْءٌmore thanشَيْءٍthingعَلَيْهِمْagainst themأَضَرَّharmfulمِنَthanالظُّلْمِinjusticeوَهُوَand itالَّذِيwhichقَدْhasقَصَمَdestroyed
And nothing was more harmful to them than injustice, and that is what has destroyed them.
فَكَمْSo how manyتَرَكُواthey leftمِنْofجِنَانٍgardensوَمِنْand ofقُصُورٍpalacesوَأُخْرَىand othersعَلَيْهِمْupon themأَطْمٌsafeguards
So how many of gardens and palaces did they leave, and others upon them safeguards?
صَلَّوْاThey prayedبِالْجَحِيمِin hellوَفَاتَand missedالنَّعِيمَthe pleasuresوَكَانَand wasالَّذِيthat whichنَالَهُمْaffected themكَاحْلْمٍlike a dream
They prayed in hell and missed the pleasures, and what affected them was like a dream.
ف:So:«أَكْرَهُهُ»"I hate it,"وَكَذَاand likewiseفِيْمَاin whatيَأْتِيcomes.
So: 'I hate it,' and likewise in what comes.
ف:So:«يَكْرَهُهُ»"he hates it."
So: 'he hates it.'
لَمْI have notأَقِفْstoppedعَلَيْهِat it
I have not stopped at it.
فَSoوَقَدْindeedقَالَsaid
So indeed he said.
س:So:«فَإِنَّ"For indeedالذُّنُوبُthe sins."
So: 'For indeed the sins.'
ز:So:«أَجْرِي"I ranعَلَيْهِمْagainst themأَصَمٌّ»deaf".
So: 'I ran against them deaf.'
الْبَيْتُThe verseالْأَوَّلُthe firstأُنْشِدَwas recitedالْمُصَنِّفُby the authorفِيinطَرِيقِthe pathالْهِجْرَتَيْنِof the two migrations(٥٨٩،١٣٤)(589, 134),وَبَدَائِعُand Bada'iالْفَوَائِدِof benefits(٧١٢)(712).
The first verse was recited by the author in the path of the two migrations (589, 134), and Bada'i of benefits (712).
وَقَدْAnd indeedنَقَلَtransmittedابْنُIbnعَسَاكِرَAsakirفِيinتَارِيخِthe historyدِمَشْقَof Damascus(٧٠/٥٤)(70/54)
And indeed, Ibn Asakir transmitted in the history of Damascus (70/54).
بِسَنَدِهِwith its chainأَنَّthatعُمَرَOmarبْنَson ofعَبْدِالْعَزِيزِAbdul Azizكَانَhas beenيَتَمَثَّلُrecitingبِهَذَاwith thisالْبَيْتِthe verseوَتَالِيَهُand that which follows it.وَرِوَايَتُهُAnd his narrationفِيهِin it
With its chain that Omar ibn Abdul Aziz was reciting with this verse and that which follows it.
وَلَاAnd notتُحَقِّرَنَّyou belittleصَغِيرَةًsmallالذُّنُوبَsinsفَإِنَّfor indeedالْإِلَهَthe Godشَدِيدٌis severeالنِّقْمَin punishment
And do not belittle small sins, for indeed the God is severe in punishment.
