وَالْعَجْزُand the inabilityوَالْكَسَلُand lazinessقَرِينَانِare companionsفَإِنَّfor ifتَخَلَّفَthe servant lags behindالْعَبْدُthe servantعَنْfromأَسْبَابِcausesالْخَيْرِof goodوَالْفَلَاحِand success
Inability and laziness are companions, for if the servant lags behind from the causes of good and success.
إِنَّIfكَانَit wasلِعَدَمِdue to the lack ofقَدْرَتِهِhis abilityفَهُوَthen it isالْعَجْزُthe inability،,وَإِنْand ifكَانَit wasلِعَدَمِdue to the lack ofإِرَادَتِهِhis willفَهُوَthen it isالْكَسَلُthe laziness.
If it was due to the lack of his ability, then it is the inability; and if it was due to the lack of his will, then it is the laziness.
وَالْجُبْنُAnd cowardiceوَالْبُخْلُand stinginessقَرِينَانِare companionsفَإِنَّfor ifعَدَمَthe lack ofالنَّفْعِbenefitمِنْهُfrom itإِنَّifكَانَit wasبِبَدَنهِby his bodyفَهُوَthen it isالْجُبْنُthe cowardice،,وَإِنْand ifكَانَit wasبِمَالِهِby his wealthفَهُوَthen it isالْبُخْلُthe stinginess.
And cowardice and stinginess are companions, for if the lack of benefit from it was by his body, then it is cowardice; and if it was by his wealth, then it is stinginess.
وَضِلعٌAnd the oppressionالدِّينِof religionوَقَهْرٌand the humiliationالرِّجَالِof menقَرِينَانِare companionsفَإِنَّfor ifاسْتِعْلَاءِsuperiorityالْغَيْرِof othersعَلَيْهِover himإِنَّifكَانَit wasبِحَقٍّby rightفَهُوَthen it isمِنْfromضِلعٍthe oppressionالدِّينِof religion،,وَإِنْand ifكَانَit wasبِبَاطِلٍby falsehoodفَهُوَthen it isقَهْرٌthe humiliationالرِّجَالِof men(١)(1)
And the oppression of religion and the humiliation of men are companions, for if the superiority of others over him was by right, then it is from the oppression of religion; and if it was by falsehood, then it is the humiliation of men (1).
وَالْمَقْصُودُAnd the intended meaningأَنْis thatالذُّنُوبُsinsمِنْare ofأَقْوَىthe strongestالأَسْبَابِcausesالْجَالِبَةِthat brings aboutلِهَذِهِtheseالثَّمَانِيَةِeight things،,كَمَاjust asأَنَّهَاthey areمِنof theأَقْوَىstrongestالأَسْبَابِcausesالْجَالِبَةِthat brings aboutلَجُهْدِfor the severeالْبَلَاءِtribulationوَدَرَكِand the descent ofالشَّقَاءِmisery،,وَسُوءِand badالْقَضَاءِdecree،,وَشَمَاتَةِand the gloatingالأَعْدَاءِof enemies(۲)(2)
And the intended meaning is that sins are among the strongest causes that bring about these eight things, just as they are among the strongest causes that bring about severe tribulation, descent of misery, bad decree, and the gloating of enemies (2).
وَمِنْAnd amongأَقْوَىthe strongestالأَسْبَابِcausesالْجَالِبَةِthat brings aboutلِزَوَالِthe removal ofنِعَمِbountiesاللَّهِof Allahسَخَطَهُis His wrath(۳)(3).وَتَحَوُّلِAnd the transformation ofعَافِيَتِهِHis well-being،,وَفَجَاءَةِand the suddenness ofنِقْمَتِهِHis punishment،,وَجَمِيعِand all
And among the strongest causes that lead to the removal of Allah's bounties is His wrath (3). And the transformation of His well-being, and the suddenness of His punishment, and all...
وَانْفَتَحَتِAnd it opened upطُرُقٌwaysلِلْإِغَائَةِfor temptationوَالْفِتَنِand trialsمَعَwithمَوْقِفٍa positionيَجْمَعُthat combinesوَيَفْصِلُand separates
And it opened up ways for temptation and trials with a position that combines and separates.
