His piety, and he informed that he punished those who forsook piety by making them forget themselves, that is, make them forget their interests and what saves them from His punishment and what obliges them to eternal life and the perfection of its pleasures, joy, and bliss, so He made them forget all that.

So you see the sinner neglectful of the interests of himself, wasting them; indeed, God has ignored his heart from His remembrance and he followed his desires, and his command was excessive. Indeed, his worldly interests and those of the hereafter have scattered upon him, and he has failed in his eternal happiness and replaced it with the least thing that is of pleasure, which is only a cloud of summer or the appearance of a phantom!

And the greatest punishment is the servant's forgetfulness to himself, and neglecting it, and wasting its right and portion from God, and selling it with loss, disgrace, and the lowest price.
