عَلَىOnذَٰلِكَthatاِنْسِلَاخِهِdetachment/his sheddingمِنْfromالْحَيَاءِshame

On that, his detachment from shame.

وَإِذَاAnd ifوَصَلَreachesالْعَبْدُthe servantإِلَىtoهَذِهِthisالْحَالِstate

And if the servant reaches this state.

لَمْnotيَبْقَremainفِيinصَلَاحِهِhis righteousnessمَطْمَعٌhope

There remains no hope in his righteousness.

كَمَاAsقِيلَit was said

As it was said.

وَإِذَاAnd ifرَأَىhe sawإِبْلِيسَIblisطَلْعَةَthe appearanceوَجْهِهِof his faceحَيَّاhe greeted:فَدَيْتُI am sacrificed (for)مَنْwhoلَاdoes notيُفْلِحُsucceed

And if Iblis saw the appearance of his face, he greeted him, saying: 'I am sacrificed for one who does not succeed.'

وَالْحَيَاءِAnd shameمُشْتَقٌّis derivedمِنْfromالْحَيَاةِlife

And shame is derived from life.

وَالغَيْثُAnd rainيُسَمَّىis calledحَيًّاlife (or living).بِالْقَصْرِbecause it bringsلِأَنَّthatبِهِwith itحَيَاةَthe lifeالْأَرْضِof the earth

And rain is called 'life' because it brings the life of the earth.

وَالنَّبَاتُAnd the plantsوَالْدَّوَابُّand the creatures,وَكَذَٰلِكَlikewiseبِالْحَيَاءِthrough shameحَيَاةَthe lifeالدُّنْيَاof this worldوَالْآخِرَةِand the Hereafter

And likewise, through shame, is the life of this world and the Hereafter.

فَمَنْSo whoeverلَاdoes notحَيَاءَpossess shameفِيهِin himمَيِّتٌis deadفِيinالدُّنْيَاthis worldشَقِيٌّunfortunateفِيinالْآخِرَةِthe Hereafter

So whoever does not possess shame in him is dead in this world and unfortunate in the Hereafter.

وَبَيْنَAnd betweenالذُّنُوبِthe sinsوَبَيْنَand betweenقِلَّةَthe lackالْحَيَاءِof shameوَعَدَمِand not havingالْغَيْرَةِjealousyتَلَازُمٌare connectedمِنْfromالطَّرَفَيْنِboth sides,وَكُلٌّand eachالْآخَرُother.

And between the sins and the lack of shame and not having jealousy are connected from both sides, and each other.

وَيَطْلُبُهُand he seeks itحَثِيثًاintensely.

And he seeks it intensely.

وَمَنْAnd whoeverاَسْتَحَىfeels ashamedمِنْofاللَّهِAllahعِندَinمَعْصِيَتِهِhis disobedienceاَسْتَحَىfeels ashamedاللَّهُAllahمِنْfromعُقُوبَتِهِpunishmentيَوْمَon the Dayيَلْقَاهُhe meets Him.

And whoever feels ashamed of Allah in his disobedience, Allah feels ashamed of his punishment on the Day he meets Him.

وَمَنْAnd whoeverلَمْdid notيَسْتَحِfeel ashamedمِنْofمَعْصِيَتِهِhis disobedienceلَمْdid notيَسْتَحِfeel ashamedمِنْهُمَاof both (his disobedience and punishment)يَسْتَدْعِيwill attract

And whoever did not feel ashamed of his disobedience will not feel ashamed of both, will attract punishment.

فَصْلٌSection.

Section.

وَمِنْAnd amongعُقُوبَاتِthe punishmentsالذُّنُوبِof sins:أَنَّهَاis that theyتُضْعِفُweakenفِيinالْقَلْبِthe heartتَعْظِيمَthe glorificationالرَّبِّof the Lordجَلَّthe MajesticجَلَالَهُHis Majesty.

And among the punishments of sins is that they weaken the glorification of the Lord, the Majestic.

وَتُضْعِفُand weakenوَقَارَهُHis reverenceفِيinقَلْبِthe heartالْعَبْدِof the servant,وَلَابُدَّand must beشَاءَwilledأَمْorأَبَىrefused.

And it weakens His reverence in the heart of the servant, and must be, whether he willed or refused.

وَلَوْAnd ifتَمَكَّنَthe glorificationوَقَارُof Allah’s reverenceاللَّهُAllahوَعَظَمَتِهِand His greatnessفِيinقَلْبِthe heartالْعَبْدِof the servant,لَمَاhe would notتَجَرَّأَdareعَلَىonمَعَاصِيهِhis disobedience

And if the glorification of Allah’s reverence and His greatness were in the heart of the servant, he would not dare to commit disobedience.
