يُوجِزُهُ،He summarizes it,بَلْbutيَجِبُhe mustعَلَيْهِon himأَنْtoيَفصِلَهُelaborateتَفْصِيلاً،in detail,وَيُبَشِّرُand he gives glad tidingsوَيُنذِرُ،and he warns,وَيَذْكُرُand he mentionsالْمُنْجِيَاتِ،the saviors,وَالْمُوبِقَاتِand the dooms.وَيُبَيِّنُAnd he clarifiesأَسْبَابَthe causesالْمَرَضِof the diseaseوَأَمَارَاتِهِand its signsوَعَوَاقِبَهُ،and its consequences,وَلَاand he does notيَقْتَصِرُlimit himselfعَلَىtoالإِرْشَادِguidingإِلَىtoسُبُلِwaysالْخَلاصِof salvationمِنْهُfrom itبَلْbutيَدُلُّhe guidesعَلَىtoطُرُقِwaysالْوِقَايَةِof preventionمِنَfromالْوُقُوعِfallingفِيهِinto itأَيْضًا.too.
He should not merely summarize it, but he must elaborate it in detail, giving glad tidings and warnings, and mentioning the saviors and the dooms, clarifying the causes of the disease, its signs, and its consequences; he should not limit himself to guiding the ways of salvation from it, but also indicate ways of preventing falling into it.
ثُمَّThenيَعْتَنيhe should take careقَبْلَbeforeذَاكَthatبِتَهْيِئَةِby preparingقَلْبِthe heartالْمُبْتَلَىof the afflictedلِلِاسْتِمَاعِto listenإِلَىtoكَلَامِهِhis wordsوَالْعَمَلِand actبِمَاupon whatيَصِفُhe prescribesلَهُfor himمِنَofأَنْوَاعِtypesالْعِلَاجِ.of treatment.
Then he should take care before that to prepare the heart of the afflicted to listen to his words and to act upon what he prescribes for him of types of treatment.
وَهَكَذَاAnd thusكَانَwasجَوَابَthe answerابْنِof Ibnالْقَيِّمِal-Qayyimرَحِمَهُmay Allah have mercy on himجَوَاباًthe answerعَالِمٍof a scholarرُبَّانِيٍwho is godlyنَاصِحٍand advisingحَكِيمٍ،and wise,جَوَابًاa responseمَبْسُوطًاelaborateمُفَصَّلاً،in detail,غَايَةَextremelyفِيinبَابِهِ.its subject.
And thus was the answer of Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, the response of a godly advising scholar, an elaborate and detailed answer, extremely relevant to its subject.
