دُعَائِهِHis supplication::اللَّهُمَّO Allahلَاdo notتُشْمِتْlet rejoiceبِيat meالأَعْدَاءِthe enemies,,ثُمَّthenهُوَheيُسْمِتُsilencesبِنَفْسِهby himselfكُلَّeveryعَدُوٍّenemyلَهُof him!!
His supplication: O Allah, do not let the enemies rejoice at me, then he silences by himself every enemy of him!
قِيلَIt was said::وكَيْفَAnd howذَلِكَ؟is that?
It was said: And how is that?
قَالَ:He said:يَعْصِيHe disobeysاللَّهَAllahفُسْتُand He silencesبِهِby himفِيonالْقِيَامَةِthe Day of Resurrectionكُلَّeveryعَدُوٍّenemy(۱)(1)
He said: He disobeys Allah, and He silences by him on the Day of Resurrection every enemy (1).
فَصْلٌSectionوَلِلْمَعَاصِيAnd for sinsمِنَfromالْآثَارِthe effectsالْقَبِيحَةِevilالْمَذْمُومَةِblameworthyوَالْمُضِرَّةِand harmful(٢)(2)بِالْقَلْبِto the heartوَالْبَدَنِand the bodyوَالْدُّنْيَاand this world(۳)(3)وَالْآخِرَةِand the Hereafterمَاwhatلَاnotيَعْلَمُهis knownإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllah(٤)(4).
Section: And for sins, there are evil and blameworthy effects that harm the heart and body, this world and the Hereafter, what only Allah knows (4).
فَمِنْهَاAmong them:: حِرْمَانُis deprivationالْعِلْمِ،of knowledge,فَإِنَّfor indeedالْعِلْمَknowledgeنُورٌis lightيَقْذِفُهُthat He castsاللَّهُAllahفِيinالْقَلْبِ،the heart,وَالْمَعْصِيَةُand disobedienceتُطْفِئُextinguishesذَلِكَthatالنُّورَlight.
Among them: deprivation of knowledge, for indeed knowledge is a light that Allah casts into the heart, and disobedience extinguishes that light.
وَلَمَّاAnd whenجَلَسَhe satالشَّافِعِيُّAsh-Shafi'iبَيْنَbeforeيَدَيْthe hands ofمَالِكٍMalikوَقَرَأَand readعَلَيْهِto him(٥):أَعْجَبَهُhe was impressed byمَاwhatرَأَىhe sawمِنَofوَفُورِabundanceفِطْنَتِهِ،of his intellect,وَتَوَقُّدِand the brillianceذَكَائِهِof his mindوَكُمَالِand perfectionفَهْمِهِ؛of his understanding;فَقَالَhe said:إِنِّيIأَرَىseeاللَّهَAllahقَدْhasأَلْقَىcastعَلَىonقَلْبِكَyour heartنُورًا،a light,فَلَاso do notتُطْفِئْهُextinguish itبِظُلْمَةِwith the darknessالْمَعْصِيَةِof disobedience.(1)(1)
And when Ash-Shafi'i sat before Malik and read to him (5), he was impressed by what he saw of the abundance of his intellect, the brilliance of his mind and the perfection of his understanding; he said: I see that Allah has cast upon your heart a light, so do not extinguish it with the darkness of disobedience (1).
وَقَالَAnd Ash-Shafi'i said(٧): (7)شَكَوْتُI complainedإِلَىtoوَكِيعٍWaki'}سُوءَof poorحِفْظِيmemorizationفَأَرْشَدَنِيthen he guided meإِلَىtoتَرْكِleavingالمَعَاصِيsins.وَقَالَHe saidاعْلَمْknowبِأَنَّthatالْعِلْمَknowledgeفَضْلٌis a virtueوَفَضْلَand the virtueاللَّهِof Allahلَاdoes notيُؤْتَاهُobtain itعَاصٍ.by a disobedient.(١)(1)
And Ash-Shafi'i said (7): I complained to Waki' of my poor memorization, then he guided me to leaving sins. He said: Know that knowledge is a virtue, and the virtue of Allah is not given to a disobedient (1).
لَمْI did notأَقِفْstopعَلَيْهِon it.
I did not stop upon it.
فَFor:«وَالْمَذْمُومَةِ"and blameworthyوَالْمُغَرَّةِ».and deceiving."قُلْ:Say: «المَذْمُومَةِ"blameworthyالْمُضِرَّةِ».and harmful."فَFor: «فِي"inالدُّنْيَا».the world."وَقَدْAnd hasذَكَرَmentionedالْمُؤَلِّفُthe authorجُمْلَةًsomeمِنْofآثَارِthe effectsالْمَعَاصِيof sinsفِيinطَرِيقِthe pathالْهَجْرَتَيْنِof the two migrations(٥٩١).(591).
For: "and blameworthy and deceiving." Say: "blameworthy and harmful." For: "in the world." And has mentioned the author some of the effects of sins in the path of the two migrations (591).
«عَلَيْهِ"upon himسَاقِطٌis droppedمِنْfromس.S.

وَقَالَAnd he saidالشَّاعِرُthe poet.
And he said the poet.
قُلْ:Say:لَاNotيُؤْتَىis givenلِعَاصٍto a disobedient.وَانْظُرْAnd lookدِيوَانِthe Diwanالشَّافِعِيِّof Ash-Shafi'i(٧٢).(72).
Say: Not given to a disobedient. And look at the Diwan of Ash-Shafi'i (72).
