And not a people break the trust of the covenant except that Allah subjected their enemy from others upon them, and they took some of what is in their hands; and what their leaders did not act upon with what Allah has revealed in His book, except that Allah made their fear among them.

And in the Musnad and the Sunan (2) from the Hadith of Amr ibn Murrah, about Salim ibn Abu al-Ja'ad, about Abu Ubaydah, about Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, he said: The Messenger of Allah said: Indeed, those who were before you when a worker among them acted with a sin, the forbidding one came to him as a warning; then when the next day came, he sat with him, ate with him, and drank with him, as if he had not seen him on sin yesterday.
فَلَمَّاSo whenرَأَىHe sawاللَّهُAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Exalted Mightyذَٰلِكَthatمِنْهُمْfrom themضَرَبَHe struckبِقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsعَلَىonبَعْضِهِمْsome of themعَلَىبَعْضٍsome؛ثُمَّthenلَعَنَهُمْHe cursed themعَلَىuponلِسَانِthe tongueنَبِيِّهِمْof their ProphetدَاوُدَDavidوَعِيسَىand Jesusابْنِthe son ofمَرْيَمَMary.ذَٰلِكَThatبِمَاbecause of whatعَصَوْاthey disobeyedوَكَانُواand they wereيَعْتَدُونَtransgressorsوَالَّذِيAnd by HimنَفْسَsoulمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadبِيَدِهِin His hand,لَتَأْمُرُنَّyou will surely enjoinبِالْمَعْرُوفِthe good,وَلَتَنهَوُنَّand you will surely forbidعَنْagainstالْمُنْكَرِthe evil,وَلَتَأْخُذُنَّand you will surely takeعَلَىuponيَدِthe handالسَّفِيحِof the fool,وَلَتَأْطُرُنَّهُand you will surely compel himعَلَىto theالْحَقِّtruthأَطْرًاintensely,أَوْorلَيَضْرِبَنَّwill surely strikeاللَّهُAllahبِقُلُوبٍwith heartsبَعْضِكُمْof some of youعَلَىonبَعْضٍsome؛ثُمَّthenلَيَلْعَنَكُمْHe will curse you.
So when Allah, the Exalted Mighty, saw that from them, He struck their hearts against some of them; then He cursed them upon the tongue of their Prophet David and Jesus the son of Mary. That because of what they disobeyed and they were transgressors. And by Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, you will surely enjoin the good, and you will surely forbid against the evil, and you will surely take upon the hand of the fool, and you will surely compel him to the truth intensely, or surely Allah will strike with hearts of some of you upon some; then He will curse you.

Z: Subjected upon them. It has been narrated by Abu Dawood (4337) and Ibn Abi Dunya in the punishments (12) and al-Tabarani (10/No. 10267, 10268) from the path of Amr ibn Murrah, about Salim al-Aftas, about Abu Ubaydah, about Ibn Mas'ud. He mentioned it. And narrated it a group about Ali ibn Badhimah, about Abu Ubaydah, about Ibn Mas'ud. It has been narrated by Ahmad (391/1) (3713) and al-Tirmidhi (3047) and he said: "This hadith is good, strange," and Ibn Majah (4006) and Abu Dawood (4336). And the hadith has a disconnection in its chain as Abu Ubaydah did not hear anything from his father. See the verification of the Musnad (251/6-252).
