And what is it that was inflicted upon them? Various types of punishments: sometimes by killing and captivity, and the destruction of the land, and at another time by the oppression of kings, and at another time by turning them into apes and pigs?

The Imam Ahmad said: Al-Walid bin Muslim narrated to us, Safeh bin Amr narrated to us, Abdulrahman bin Jubeir bin Nafeer told me from his father, he said: When Cyprus was opened, there was a separation between its people and some cried to one another, and I saw Abu al-Dardaa sitting alone crying. I said: O Abu al-Dardaa, what causes you to cry on a day that honored God and Islam and its people? He said: Woe to you, O Jubeir, how insignificant are the creations to God, the Mighty and Sublime, if they neglect His command. While it is a dominant nation with the kingdom manifest to them, they left the command of God, and they became to what you see!
