بِه؟about it?وَهَلAnd isهَذَاthisإِلَّاonlyمِنْfromخَدْعٍdeceptionالنُّفُوسِthe soulsوَغُرُورِand vanityالأَمَانِي؟of wishes?
About it? And is this only from the deception of the souls and the vanity of wishes?
وَقَدAndقَالَsaidأَبُوAbuأُمَامَةَUmamaبْنَbinسَهْلٍSahl(۱)(1)بْنَbinحُنَيْفٍHunayf::دَخَلْتُI enteredأَنَاIوَعُرْوَةَand UrwahبْنَbinالزُّبَيْرِAl-ZubairعَلَىtoعَائِشَةَAishaرَضيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَاmay God be pleased with her.
And Abu Umama bin Sahl bin Hunayf said: I entered with Urwah bin Al-Zubair to Aisha, may God be pleased with her.
فَقَالَتْShe said::لَوْIf(۲)(2)رَأَيْتُمَاyou had seenرَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Godﷺ(peace be upon him)فِيinمَرَضٍillnessلَهُof himوَكَانَتْand I hadعِندِيwith meتِسْعُمِئَةِsix hundredدِينَارٍdinar--أَوْorسَبْعَةٍseven--فَأَمَرَنِيhe ordered meرَسُولَ اللَّهِthe Messenger of Godﷺ(peace be upon him)[١٠/ب][10/B]أَنْtoأَفَرِّقَهَاdistribute it.
She said: If you had seen the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) in his illness, and I had with me six hundred dinars - or seven - he ordered me to distribute them.
قَالَتْShe said::فَشَغَلَنِيAnd I was preoccupiedوَجَعُby the painالنَّبِيِّof the Prophet،,حَتَّىuntilعَافَاهُHe healed himاللَّهُGod.
She said: And I was preoccupied by the pain of the Prophet until God healed him.
ثُمَّThenسَأَلَنِيhe asked meعَنْهَاabout itفَقَالَ:and he said:«مَا"Whatفَعَلْتِ؟did you do?أَكُنتِWere youفَرَّقْتِdistributingالسِّتَّةَthe sixالدَّنانِيرِdinars(۳)؟»(3)?"
Then he asked me about it and said: "What did you do? Were you distributing the six dinars (3)?"
فَقُلْتُI said:::لَا،No,وَاللَّهِby Godلَقَدindeedكَانَwasشَغَلَنِيpreoccupied me(٤)(4)وَجَعُكَyour pain.
I said: No, by God, it had indeed preoccupied me, your pain.
قَالَتْ:She said:فَدَعَاThen he calledبِهَا،for it,فَوَضَعَهَاand he placed itفِيinكَفِّهِ،his palm,فَقَالَ:and he said:«مَا"Whatظَنُّdoes the thought ofنَبِيِّthe Prophetاللَّهِof Godلَوْifلَقِيَhe meetsاللَّهَ،God,وَهَذِهِand thisعِندَهُ؟with him?"
She said: Then he called for it, and placed it in his palm, and said: "What does the thought of the Prophet of God, if he meets God, with this in his hand?"
(٥)(5)وَفِيAnd inلَفْظٍwordingآخَر:another:«مَا"Whatظَنَّdoes he thinkمُحَمَّدٌMuhammadبِرَبِّهِof his Lordلَوْifلَقِيَhe meetsاللَّهَ،God,وَهَذِهِand thisعِندَهُ؟»with him?"
And in another wording: "What does Muhammad think of his Lord if he meets God, with this in his hand?"
فَيَاSo byاللَّهِ!God!مَاWhatظَنَّdoes he thinkأَصْحَابُthe people ofالْكَبَائِرِthe major sinsوَالظُّلَمةِand the oppressorsبِاللَّهِof Godإِذَاifلَقُوهُ،they meet Him,وَمَظَالِمَand the injusticesالْعِبَادِof the servants.
So by God! What do the people of major sins and oppressors think of God if they meet Him, and of the injustices of the servants?
(۱)(1)وَقَعَWas notedفِيinس:S: أَبُوAbuأُمَامَةَUmamaسَهْلٍ»،Sahl", فَأَسْقَطَand the wordكَلِمَةَthe wordالْابْنِthe sonقَبْلَbeforeسَهْلٍ».Sahl."وَكَذَاAnd likewiseفِيinط.T.وَهُوَand it isغَلَطٌ،a mistake,فَإِنَّfor indeedأَبَاAbuأُمَامَةَUmamaكُنْيَةٌis a nicknameاشْتَهَرَfamousبِهَاwith itأَسْعَدُAs’adبْنَbinسَهْلٍSahlبْنَbinحُنَيْفٍ.Hunayn.
(1) It was noted in S: "Abu Umama Sahl," and it omitted the word 'bin' before Sahl." And likewise in T. It is a mistake, for indeed Abu Umama is a nickname by which As’ad bin Sahl bin Hunayf is famous.
وَقَدAndوُلِدَwas bornقَبْلَtwoوَفَاةِyears before the deathالنَّبِيِّof the Prophetبِسَنَتَيْنِ،by two years,وَحَنَّكَةَand he chewedالنَّبِيُّthe Prophetﷺ(peace be upon him)وَسَمَّاهُand named himبِاسْمِby the nameجَدِّهِof his grandfatherلِأُمِّهِfrom his motherأَبِيAbuأُمَامَةَUmamaأَسْعَدَAs’adبْنَbinزُرَارَةَZararaاُنظُرْSeeالإِصَابَةَthe reference(١٨١/١).(181/1).
And he was born two years before the death of the Prophet, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) chewed him and named him by the name of his grandfather from his mother, Abu Umama As’ad bin Zarara. See the reference (181/1).
