Al-Bukhari.
وَذُكِرَAnd it was mentionedعَنْaboutالْحَسَنِAl-Hasanالْبَصْرِيِّ:Al-Basri:مَاWhatأَمِنَهُanyone feels secure from itإِلَّاexceptمُنَافِقٌ،a hypocrite,وَمَاand whatخَافَهُanyone fears itإِلَّاexceptمُؤْمِنٌa believer.
And it was mentioned about Al-Hasan Al-Basri: 'None feels secure from it except a hypocrite, and none fears it except a believer.'
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedذُكِرَit was mentionedعَنْaboutبَعْضِsomeالصَّحَابَةِ:of the companions:أَنَّهُthat heكَانَwasيَقُولُsayingفِيinدُعَائِهِ:his supplication:اللّهُمَّO Allah,إِنِّيI indeedأَعُوذُseek refugeبِكَwith Youمِنْfromخُشُوعِthe hypocrisyالنِّفَاقِ.of humility.
And indeed it was mentioned about some of the companions: that he was saying in his supplication: 'O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the hypocrisy of humility.'
قِيلَ:It was said:وَمَاAnd whatخُشُوعُis the hypocrisyالنِّفَاقِ؟of humility?قَالَ:He said:أَنْThatيَرَىone seesالْبَدَنَthe bodyخَاشِعًاhumbleوَالْقَلْبُwhile the heartلَيْسَis notبِخَاشِعٍ.humble.
It was said: 'And what is the hypocrisy of humility?' He said: 'That one sees the body humble while the heart is not humble.'
تَاللَّهِBy Allah,لَقَدْindeedمُلِئَتْwere filledقُلُوبُهُمْtheir heartsإِيمَانًاwith faithوَيَقِينًا،and certainty,وَخَوْفُهُمْand their fearمِنَofالنِّفَاقِhypocrisyشَدِيدٌwas severeوَهَمٌّهُمْand their concernلِذَلِكَregarding thatثَقِيلٌ،was heavy,وَسَوَاهُمْwhile manyكَثِيرٌothersمِنْهُمْof themلَاdo notيَجَاوِزُexceedإِيمَانَهُمْtheir faithحَنَاجِرَهُمْ.their throats.
By Allah, indeed their hearts were filled with faith and certainty, and their fear of hypocrisy was severe, and their concern regarding that was heavy, while many others of them do not let their faith exceed their throats.
وَهُمْAnd theyيَدْعُونَclaimأَنْthatإِيمَانَهُمْtheir faithكَإِيمَانِis like the faithجِبْرِيلَof Gabrielوَمِيكَائِيلَ.and Michael.
And they claim that their faith is like the faith of Gabriel and Michael.
زَرْعُThe plantingالنِّفَاقِof hypocrisyيَنْبُتُgrowsعَلَىonسَاقِيَتَيْنِ:two channels:سَاقِيَةُthe channelالْكَذِبِ،of lies,وَسَاقِيَةُand the channelالْرِيَاءِ.of ostentation.
The planting of hypocrisy grows on two channels: the channel of lies, and the channel of ostentation.
وَمَخْرَجُهُمَاAnd their outletsمِنْare fromعَيْنَيْنِ:two springs:عَيْنُthe springضَعْفِof weaknessالْبَصِيرَةِ،in insight,وَعَيْنُand the springضَعْفِof weaknessالْعَزِيمَةِ.in determination.
And their outlets are from two springs: the spring of weakness in insight, and the spring of weakness in determination.
فَإِذَاSo whenتَمَّتْare completedهَذِهِtheseالْأَرْكَانُpillarsالْأَرْبَعُ،four,اسْتَحْكَمَis firmly establishedنَبَاتُthe growthالنِّفَاقِof hypocrisyوَبُنْيَانِهِ.and its structure.
So when these four pillars are completed, the growth of hypocrisy and its structure are firmly established.
وَلَكِنَّهُYet it isبِمَدَارِجِupon the pathsالسُّيُولِof floodsعَلَىatشَفَاthe edge ofجُرُفٍa cliffهَارٍ.that is crumbling.
Yet it is upon the paths of floods at the edge of a crumbling cliff.
فَإِذَاThen whenشَاهَدُواthey witnessسَيْلَthe floodالْحَقَائِقِof truthsيَوْمَon the dayتُبْلَىare testedالسَّرَائِرُ،the secrets,وَكَشَفَand is uncoveredالْمَسْتُورُ،the hidden,وَبَعْثَرَand is scatteredمَاwhatفِيis inالْقُبُورِ،the graves,وَحُصِّلَand is gatheredمَاwhatفِيis inالصُّدُورِ.the chests.
Then when they witness the flood of truths on the day the secrets are tested, the hidden is uncovered, what is in the graves is scattered, and what is in the chests is gathered.
تَبَيَّنَIt becomes clearحِينََئِذٍat that timeلِمَنْto whomكَانَتْwasبِضَاعَتُهُhis merchandiseالنِّفَاقُ،hypocrisy,أَنْthatحَوَاصِلَهُhis gainsالَّتِيthatحَصَّلَهَاhe had acquiredكَانَتْwereكَالسَّرَابِlike a mirage,يَحْسَبُهُwhich thinks itالظَّمْآنُthe thirsty oneمَاءًto be waterحَتَّىuntilإِذَاwhenجَاءَهُhe comes to itلَمْhe does notيَجِدْهُfind itشَيْئًاto be anythingوَوَجَدَand he findsاللَّهَAllahعِندَهُwith himفَوَفَّاهُso He pays in fullحِسَابَهُhis accountوَاللَّهُand Allahسَرِيعُis swiftالْحِسَابِ.in reckoning.
It becomes clear at that time to the one whose merchandise was hypocrisy, that the gains he had acquired were like a mirage, which the thirsty one thinks to be water until, when he comes to it, he finds it to be nothing, and he finds Allah with him, so He pays his account in full. And Allah is swift in reckoning.
