The second chapter
فِيInبَيَانِexplainingوُجُوهِaspectsالدِّقَّةِof precisionوَالْخَفَاءِand obscurity
In explaining the aspects of precision and obscurity
فِيinمَعَانِيthe meaningsنَظْمِof the compositionالْقُرْآنِof the Quranالْكَرِيمِnoble
in the meanings of the composition of the noble Quran
وَتَنَاسُقِهِand its harmonyبِالنِّسْبَةِrelativeلِأَهْلِto the peopleهَذَاof thisالْعَصْرِ،era,
and its harmony relative to the people of this era,
وَإِزَالَتِهِمَاand removing both of themبِأَوْضَحِwith the clearestبَيَانٍ.explanation.
and removing both of them with the clearest explanation.
نُزُولُThe descentالْقُرْآنِof the QuranعَرَبِيّاًArabicمُبِيناً:clear:
The descent of the Quran as a clear Arabic text:
لِيُعْلَمَSo that it is knownأَنَّthatالْقُرْآنَthe Quranالْعَظِيمَmightyنَزَلَdescendedفِيinلُغَةِthe languageالْعَرَبِof the Arabsالْأَقْحَاحِ،pure,
Let it be known that the mighty Quran descended in the language of the pure Arabs,
اللُّغَةِthe languageالْمُبِينَةِmanifestالْوَاضِحَةِ،clear,
the manifest and clear language,
وَفَهِمَهُand understood itالْعَرَبُthe Arabsبِسَلِيقَتِهِمُby their instinctاللُّغَوِيَّةِlinguisticالْأَصْلِيَّةِoriginal
and the Arabs understood it by their original linguistic instinct
وَأَدْرَكُواand they graspedمَغْزَاهُits intentوَمَعَانِيهِ،and its meanings,
and they grasped its intent and meanings,
قَالَsaidاللَّهُAllah- تَعَالَى -:- exalted is He -:{حم{Ha-Mim(١)(1)وَالْكِتَابِAnd by the Bookالْمُبِينِ}manifest}
Allah - exalted is He - said: {Ha, Meem. (1) By the clear Book}
وَقَالَAnd said- تَعَالَى -:- exalted is He -:{كِتَابٌ{A Bookأُحْكِمَتْwhose verses are perfectedآيَاتُهُits versesثُمَّthenفُصِّلَتْ}detailed}إِلَخْ.etc.
And He - exalted is He - said: {A Book whose verses are perfected then detailed} etc.
[مَوْقِفُ[The stanceالشَّارِعِof the Lawgiverمِنَregardingالْمُتَشَابِهَاتِ:]the ambiguous texts:]
[The stance of the Lawgiver regarding the ambiguous texts:]
وَقَدْAndكَانَwasمِنْfromمَرْمَىthe objectiveالشَّارِعِof the Lawgiverالْحَكِيمِwise
And it was from the objective of the wise Lawgiver
عَدَمُthe absence ofالْخَوْضِdivingفِيintoتَأْوِيلِthe interpretationالْمُتَشَابِهَاتِof the ambiguousالْقُرْآنِيَّةِQuranic texts
not diving into the interpretation of the ambiguous Quranic texts
وَتَصْوِيرِand portrayingحَقَائِقِthe realitiesالصِّفَاتِof the attributesالْإِلَهِيَّةِ،divine,
and portraying the realities of the divine attributes,
وَتَسْمِيَةِand namingالْمُبَهَّمِينَ،the unspecified ones,
and naming the unspecified ones,
وَاسْتِقْصَاءِand investigating thoroughlyالْقَصَصِthe storiesوَالْوَقَائِعِand the eventsوَأَمْثَالِand the likesذَلِكَof thatمِنَfromالْأُمُورِ،matters,
and investigating thoroughly the stories, events, and matters of that sort,
وَلِذَلِكَand for that reasonقَلَّwas littleسُؤَالُthe questioningالصَّحَابَةِof the Companions- رَضِيَ- may Allah be pleasedاللَّهُwith Allahعَنْهُمْ -with them -
and for that reason the questioning by the Companions - may Allah be pleased with them -
لِلرَّسُولِto the Messenger- صَلَّى- may peace beاللَّهُupon Allahعَلَيْهِhimوَسَلَّمَ -and blessings -عَنْaboutمِثْلِlikeذَلِكَ،that,
to the Messenger - may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him - about such things was little,
وَلَمْand and there was notيُرْفَعْelevatedفِيinهَذَاthisالْبَابِchapterمِنَfromالْأَحَادِيثِthe hadithsإِلَّاexceptشَيْءٌa thingقَلِيلٌ.little.
and nothing was narrated in this chapter of the hadiths except a very little amount.
