تَجَلَّىIt became clearلَكَto youأَنَّthatخُطُوَاتِsteps ofالْإِنْسَانِmanعَلَىonدَرْبِpath ofعِلْمِهِhis knowledgeالْفِطْرِيِّinnateغَيْرِnonالْمُكْتَسَبِ،acquired,

It became clear to you that human steps on the path of innate, non-acquired knowledge,

وَتَمْيِيزِهِand his distinction ofلِلصِّفَاتِthe attributesالَّتِيthatيَجُوزُis permissibleأَنْtoتُنْسَبَbe attributedإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllah- تَعَالَى -- Exalted is He -وَلَاand does notيَقَعُfallفِيهَاin itخَلَلٌ،flaw,

and his distinction of the attributes that are permissible to be attributed to Allah - Exalted is He - without flaw occurring in them,

عَنِfromالصِّفَاتِthe attributesالَّتِيthatيُؤَدِّيleadsاسْتِعْمَالُهَاtheir useإِلَىtoالْأَوْهَامِthe illusionsالْبَاطِلَةِfalseوَالْعَقَائِدِand the beliefsالْمُنْحَرِفَةِ،deviated,

from the attributes whose use leads to false illusions and deviated beliefs,

أَمْرٌis a matterدَقِيقٌsubtleخَطِيرٌgraveلِلْغَايَةِextremelyلَاnotيَصِلُreachesغَوْرَهُits depthوَلَاnorيَكْتَنِهُcomprehendsكُنْهَهُits essenceجُمْهُورُthe general mass ofالنَّاسِ،people,

is an extremely subtle and grave matter whose depth and essence are not comprehended by the general mass of people,

وَلِذَلِكَand thereforeقَرَّرَit was determinedأَنْthatيَكُونَbeعِلْمُknowledge ofالصِّفَاتِthe attributesالْإِلَهِيَّةِdivineتَوْفِيقاً،revelation-based (Tawfiqi),

and therefore it was determined that the knowledge of divine attributes is restricted by revelation (Tawfiqi),

وَلَاand notيُسْمَحُis permittedبِالْبَحْثِresearchوَالْكَلَامِand speakingبِحُرِّيَّةٍfreelyوَإِطْلَاقٍ.and without bounds.

and discussing them freely and without bounds is not permitted.

[The style of the Quran in stating the bounties of Allah:]

وَلَمْAnd did notيَتَعَرَّضِaddressالْقُرْآنُthe QuranالْعَظِيمُGreatمِنْfromآلَاءِbounties ofاللَّهِAllah- تَعَالَى -- Exalted is He -وَآيَاتِand signs ofقُدْرَتِهِHis powerالْعَجِيبَةِwonderfulإِلَّاexceptلِمَاwhatيَسْتَوَىis equalفِيinإِدْرَاكِهِits comprehensionالْحَضَرِيُّthe urbaniteوَالْبَدَوِيُّand the bedouinوَالْعَرَبِيُّand the Arabوَالْعَجَمِيُّand the non-Arabوَلَاand does notيَصْعُبُbecome difficultفَهْمُهُits understandingعَلَىforعَاقِلٍ،any rational person,

And the Great Quran did not address the bounties of Allah - Exalted is He - and the signs of His wonderful power except what is equally comprehended by the urbanite, the bedouin, the Arab, and the non-Arab, and whose understanding is not difficult for any rational person,

لِأَجْلِfor the sake ofذَلِكَthatلَمْdid notيَذْكُرِmentionالنِّعَمَthe blessingsالرُّوحَانِيَّةَspiritualالْخَاصَّةَspecialالَّتِيwhichيُنْعِمُHe bestowsبِهَاwith itعَلَىuponعِبَادِهِHis servantsالْأَنْبِيَاءِthe Prophetsوَالْأَوْلِيَاءِand the saintsوَالْعُلَمَاءِand the scholarsالصَّالِحِينَrighteousبِصِفَةٍin a wayخَاصَّةٍspecial(مِنْ(fromمَرَاتِبِranks ofالْكَمَالَاتِperfectionsوَمَدَارِجِand degrees ofالتَّقَرُّبِdrawing nearوَمَنَازِلِand stations ofالتَّقْوَى)piety)

for that reason, it did not mention the special spiritual blessings that He bestows upon His servants, the Prophets, the saints, and the righteous scholars in particular (such as the ranks of perfections, degrees of drawing near, and stations of piety)

وَلَمْand norيَذْكُرِdid it mentionالْمَلَاذَّthe luxuriesوَالنِّعَمَand blessingsالَّتِيthatتَحْصُلُare attained- أَحْيَاناً -- sometimes -لِلْمُلُوكِby kingsوَالسَّلَاطِينِand sultans(وَأَفْرَادٍ(and few individualsقَلَائِلَfewمِنَofالْبَشَرِ)mankind)

nor did it mention the luxuries and blessings that are attained - sometimes - by kings and sultans (and a few individuals among mankind)

بَلْratherذَكَرَit mentionedمَاwhatكَانَwasأَنْسَبَmore suitableذِكْرَهُ:its mention:

rather, it mentioned what was more suitable to mention:

مِنْfromخَلْقِcreation ofالسَّمَاوَاتِthe heavensوَالْأَرْضِ،and the earth,

the creation of the heavens and the earth,

وَإِنْزَالِand sending downالْمَطَرِthe rainمِنَfromالسَّحَابِ،the clouds,

sending down rain from the clouds,

وَتَفْجِيرِand causing to gush forthالْيَنَابِيعِspringsبِالْمَاءِ،with water,

causing springs to gush forth with water,

وَإِلْهَامِand inspiringالصَّنَائِعِcraftsوَالْحِرَفِand professionsالضَّرُورِيَّةِ،necessary,

inspiring necessary crafts and professions,

وَخَلْقِand creatingالْقُدْرَةِthe abilityلِمُمَارَسَتِهَاto practice itوَمُزَاوَلَتِهَا،and pursue it,

and creating the ability to practice and pursue them,

وَنَبَّهَand it drew attentionإِلَىtoتَغَيُّرِthe change ofمَوَاقِفِattitudes ofالنَّاسِpeopleعِنْدَatالسَّرَّاءِeaseوَالضَّرَّاءِ،and hardship,

and it drew attention to the change in people's attitudes during ease and hardship,

وَلَدَىand atالنِّعَمِblessingsوَالْبَأْسَاءِand adversityفِيinمَوَاضِعَplacesكَثِيرَةٍmany

and at times of blessings and adversity in many places

إِذْsinceإِنَّindeedهَذَاthisمِنْis fromأَمْرَاضِdiseases ofالْقَلْبِthe heartوَإِنْحِرَافِand deviation ofالنَّفْسِthe soulالَّذِيwhichيَكْثُرُfrequentlyوُقُوعُهُoccursوَتَكْثُرُand frequentlyأَمْثِلَتُهُ.are its examples.

since this is one of the diseases of the heart and the deviation of the soul that frequently occurs and whose examples are many.
