عِيسَىJesusصَلْباً،crucified,
Jesus being crucified,
مَعَdespiteأَنَّthatالْوَاقِعَrealityخِلَافُis contrary toذَلِكَ،that,
despite the reality being contrary to that,
وَقَدْand indeedشُبِّهَit was made to appearلَهُمْto themوَالْتَبَسَand became confusedعَلَيْهِمُupon themالْأَمْرُ،the matter,
and it was made to appear so to them and the matter became confused to them,
فَظَنُّواso they thoughtرَفْعَthe raising ofعِيسَىJesus- عَليْهِ- peaceالسَّلَامُ -be upon him -إِلَىtoالسَّمَاءِthe heavenقَتْلاًas killingلَهُfor himوَصَلْباً،and crucifixion,
so they thought the raising of Jesus - peace be upon him - to the heaven was a killing of him and a crucifixion,
وَتَوَارَثُواand they inheritedذَلِكَthatفِيمَاamongبَيْنَهُمْthemselvesجِيلاًgenerationبَعْدَafterجِيلٍgenerationحَتَّىuntilكَشَفَrevealedالْقُرْآنُthe QuranالْكَرِيمُNobleعَنْaboutشُبْهَتِهِمْtheir misconceptionوَأَزَاحَand liftedالْسِّتَارَthe curtainعَنِfromالْحَقِيقَةِthe truthقَائِلاً:saying:
and they inherited that among themselves generation after generation until the Noble Quran revealed their misconception and lifted the curtain from the truth, saying:
{وَمَاAnd notقَتَلُوهُdid they kill himوَمَاand notصَلَبُوهُdid they crucify himوَلَكِنْbutشُبِّهَit was made to appearلَهُمْ}to them}
{And neither did they kill him nor did they crucify him, but it was made to appear so to them}.
وَمَاAnd whateverحُكِيَwas narratedفِيinالْإِنْجِيلِthe Gospelعَلَىuponلِسَانِthe tongue ofعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- peaceالسَّلَامُ -be upon him -مِمَّاfrom whatيُشِيرُindicatesإِلَىtowardsقَتْلِهِ،his killing,
And whatever was narrated in the Gospel upon the tongue of Jesus - peace be upon him - of what indicates his killing,
فَإِنَّهُthen itلَيْسَis notإِلَّاexceptإِخْبَاراًa foretellingمِنْهُfrom himبِجُرْأَةِof the audacity ofالْيَهُودِthe Jewsوَإِجْرَامِهِمْand their criminalityوَإِقْدَامِهِمْand their proceedingعَلَىtoقَتْلِهِ،kill him,
then it is nothing but a foretelling by him of the audacity of the Jews, their criminality, and their proceeding to kill him,
لَكِنَّbutاللَّهَAllahعَصَمَهُprotected himمِنْهُمْfrom themوَخَلَّصَهُand delivered himمِنْfromأَيْدِيهِمْ،their hands,
but Allah protected him from them and delivered him from their hands,
وَمَاand whateverجَاءَcameفِيهِin itمِنْofكَلاَمِwords ofالْحَوَارِيِّينَthe disciplesبِهَذَاin thisالصَّدَدِregardفَإِنَّهُthen itنَاشِئٌoriginatesعَنِfromالِاشْتِبَاهِmisunderstandingوَالْتِبَاسِand confusion ofالْأَمْرِ،the matter,
and whatever came in it of the words of the disciples in this regard, it originates from misunderstanding and confusion of the matter,
وَلَمْand neitherيَكُنْwasلَهُمْfor themإِطْلَاعٌany awarenessعَلَىofالرَّفْعِthe raisingالَّذِيwhichلَمْnotتَأْلَفْهُwere familiar with itعُقُولُهُمْtheir mindsوَلَمْand notتَسْمَعْهُheard itمِنْfromآذَانِهِمْ.their ears.
and they had no awareness of the raising which their minds were not familiar with and their ears had not heard.
ضَلَالُهُمْTheir strayingفِيinحَمْلِinterpreting"فَارْقَلِيطَ""Paraclete"عَلَىas referring toعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- peaceالسَّلَامُ -"be upon him -
Their straying in interpreting "Paraclete" as referring to Jesus - peace be upon him -
وَمِنْAnd fromضَلَالَاتِهِمْtheir misguidancesأَيْضاًalsoأَنَّهُمْis that theyيَزْعُمُونَclaimأَنَّthatالْفَارْقَلِيطَthe Paracleteالْمَوْعُودَpromisedبِمَجِيئِهِwith his comingوَالْمُبَشَّرَand glad-tidings givenبِقُدُومِهِof his arrivalفِيinالْإِنْجِيلِ،the Gospel,
And from their misguidances also is that they claim that the Paraclete, whose coming is promised and whose arrival is given glad tidings of in the Gospel,
هُوَisعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- peaceالسَّلَامُ -be upon him -نَفْسُهُhimselfالَّذِيwhoجَاءَcameبَعْدَafterقَتْلِهِhis killing- حَسَبَ- according toزَعْمِهِمْ -their claim -إِلَىtoالْحَوَارِيِّينَ،the disciples,
is Jesus - peace be upon him - himself who came after his killing - according to their claim - to the disciples,
وَأَوْصَاهُمْand he enjoined themبِالتَّمَسُّكِto hold fastبِالْإِنْجِيلِ،to the Gospel,
and he enjoined them to hold fast to the Gospel,
وَيَزْعُمُونَand they claimأَنَّthatعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- peaceالسَّلَامُ -be upon him -أَوْصَاهُمْenjoined themأَيْضاًalsoبِأَنَّthatالْمُدَّعِينَthe claimantsلِلنُّبُوَّةِof prophecyسَيَكْثُرُونَ،will become many,
and they claim that Jesus - peace be upon him - also enjoined them that claimants of prophecy will become many,
فَمَنْso whoeverذَكَرَنِيmentions meوَسَمَّانِيand names meفَاقْبَلُواthen acceptكَلاَمَهُ،his word,وَإِلَّاand otherwiseفَرُدُّوهُ.reject him.
so whoever mentions me and names me, then accept his word, and otherwise reject him.
وَقَدْAnd indeedبَيَّنَclarifiedالْقُرْآنُthe QuranالْعَظِيمُGrandأَنَّthatبِشَارَةَthe glad tidings ofعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- peaceالسَّلَامُ -be upon him -
And the Grand Quran has clarified that the glad tidings of Jesus - peace be upon him -
