In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
١1--لاThere is noإلهَgodإلاexceptاللهُ*Allah*
1 - There is no god except Allah*.
الإلهُ:Al-Ilah (The God):فعالِis an intensive form (as in 'allam') meaningبمعنىmeaningمألوه،one who is worshipped,وكُلُّand everythingماthatاتُّخِذis takenمَعبودًاas a deityإلهٌis an 'ilah'عِنْدَtoمُتَّخِذِهits worshipper(١).(1).
Al-Ilah (The God): is an intensive form (as in 'allam') meaning one who is worshipped, and everything that is taken as a deity is an 'ilah' to its worshipper (1).
قالSaidالشيخSheikhمحمدMuhammadبنson ofعبدAbdالوهابal-Wahhab--رحمه- may Allah have mercy on himاللهAllahتعالىthe Exalted -::"فـ"So"الإلهُ"Al-Ilahاسمُis a name ofصفةٍa qualityلكُلِّfor everyمعبودٍone who is worshipped,بحقٍّwhether rightfullyأوorباطل،wrongfully.ثمThenغُلِبit became predominantly usedعلىforالمعبُودthe one who is rightfully worshipped,بحقٍّrightfullyوهوand that isاللهُAllahتعالى،the Exalted. Heوهوis the one whoالذيcreates,يخلقsustains,ويرزقand managesويدبِّرُaffairs.الأُمُور"(٢).(2).
Said Sheikh Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab - may Allah have mercy on him the Exalted -: "So 'Al-Ilah' is a name of a quality for every one who is worshipped, whether rightfully or wrongfully. Then it became predominantly used for the one who is rightfully worshipped, and that is Allah the Exalted. He is the one who creates, sustains, and manages affairs" (2).
فمعنىSo the meaning"الإلهُ"of 'Al-Ilah'يتضمَّنُincludesفعلَthe actالخلقِof creation,والرزقِsustenance,والإثابةِrewarding,والعقوبةِ،and punishment.ولهذاAnd for this reason,انفردHe alone isاللهAllah
So the meaning of 'Al-Ilah' includes the act of creation, sustenance, rewarding, and punishment. And for this reason, Allah alone is...
**سببThe reasonالابتداءfor startingببابwith the chapter(لا(There is noإلهgodإلاexceptالله)Allah)لأنهاis because itالأصلis the fundamental principleالذيaround whichتدورrevolveعليهitمسائلthe issuesهذاof thisالكتابbookوأبوابه،and its chapters.وكلAnd the entire bookالكتابbookشرحٌis an explanationلهذهof thisالكلمةstatement,وتوضيحٌand a clarificationلهاof it,وذكرٌand a mentionلأقسامهاof its divisions,وتحذيرٌand a warningمماagainst whatيضادها.contradicts it.
* The reason for starting with the chapter (There is no god except Allah) is because it is the fundamental principle around which revolve the issues of this book and its chapters. And the entire book is an explanation of this statement, and a clarification of it, and a mention of its divisions, and a warning against what contradicts it.
