Chapter Seven
جَاءَcameالشِّتَاءُthe winterقَاسِيًاharshبَعْدَafterالبُرُوقِthe thunderstormsسَقَطَfellالثَّلْجُthe snowثُمَّthenالبَرْدُthe cold
The winter came harshly after the thunderstorms; the snow fell, then the cold.
بَعْدَafterذَٰلِكَthatسَادَdominatedطَقْسٌthe weatherجامِدٌstaticاسْتَمَرَّcontinuedحَتَّىuntilنِهَايَةِthe endشَهْرٍmonthفِبْرَايِرَFebruary
After that, a static weather dominated and continued until the end of February.
وكَيْفَمَاAnd howeverكَانَwasالطَّقْسُthe weatherفَقَدَthe animalsوَاصَلَتْcontinuedالحَيَوَاناتُthe animalsبِنَاءَbuildingالطَّاحُونَةَthe millوَهِيَand theyتَعْلَمُknowأَنَّthatأَنْظَارَthe eyesالعَالَمِthe worldالخَارِجِيِّexternalتُرَاقِبُهَاare watching itوَأَنَّand thatالحَاسِدِينَthe enviousسَيَشْعُرُونَwill feelبِسَعَادَةٍhappyالنَّصْرِvictoryإِذاifلَمْnotتُنجَزْcompleteالطَّاحُونَةَthe millفِيinالْوَقْتِtimeالْمُحَدَّدِspecified
And however, the weather was, the animals continued building the mill, knowing that the eyes of the outside world were watching them, and that the envious would feel happy with the victory if the mill was not completed on time.
تَظَاهَرَpretendedجِيرَانُthe neighborsالمَزْرَعَةِthe farmبِسُوءٍwith illنِيَّةٍintentionبِعَدَمِby notتَصْدِيقِbelievingالتُّهْمَةِthe accusationالمُوَجَّهَةِdirectedإِلَىtoسْنُوبُلSnowball
The neighbors of the farm pretended with ill intention, by not believing the accusation directed to Snowball.
الطَّاحُونَةُthe millانْهَارَتْcollapsedلَوَحْدِهَاby itselfبِسَبَبِbecause ofضَعْفِweaknessجُدْرَانِهَاits walls
The mill collapsed by itself because of the weakness of its walls.
أَمَّاAs forالحَيَوَاناتُthe animalsفَتَعَلَّمُواthey knowأَنَّthatالأَمْرُthe matterلَيْسَis notكذلكَthat wayفَقَرَّرُواthey decidedمَرَّةًonceأُخْرَىagainإِعَادَةَto rebuildبِنَاءِbuildingالجُدْرَانِthe wallsعَلَىonثَلاثَةِthreeأَرْجُلٍlegsسَمِكَةٍthickعِوَضًاinstead ofثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَةَeighteenبُوصَةًinchesكَمَاasفِيinالمَرَّةِthe timeالسَّابِقَةِprevious
As for the animals, they know that the matter is not so; they decided again to rebuild the walls on three thick legs instead of eighteen inches as in the previous time.
وَقَدْAnd itتَطَلَّبَrequiredمِنْهُمْfrom themذَٰلِكَthatجَلَبَbringingكَمِّيَّةٍa quantityكَبِيرَةٍlargeمِنَofالأَحْجَارِthe stones
And it required them to bring a large quantity of stones.
لَكِنَّButالثَّلْجُthe snowالَّذِيwhichتَسَاقَطَfellلِمُدَّةٍfor a periodطَوِيلَةٍlongفَوْقَuponالمِقْلَعِthe quarryآخَرَanotherالأَشغالِthe works
But the snow which fell for a long time upon the quarry halted other works.
تَالَتْFollowedذَٰلِكَthatطَقْسٌweatherبَارِدٌcoldوَجامِدٌand staticفَبَدَأَتْthen startedالحَيَوَاناتُthe animalsفِيinالْعَمَلِthe workلَكِنَّهُbut itكَانَwasعَمَلًاworkمُجْهِدًاexhaustingأَفْقَدَهُمْmade them loseجُزْءًاpartمِنْofحَمَاسَهُمْtheir enthusiasm
That was followed by cold and static weather, so the animals began to work, but it was exhausting work that made them lose part of their enthusiasm.
