كَمَاasأَصْبَحَbecameمِنَfromالْمُمْكِنِpossibleلِكُلِّfor allأَنْtoيَحُطَّlandفَوْقَهَاon itبَلْratherفَوْقَaboveمَخَالِبِهَاits claws.

It also became possible for everyone to land on it, rather, on its claws.

لَكِنَّbutطُيُورَbirdsالدُّورِيِّsparrowsتَقِفُstandعَلَىatمَسَافَةٍdistanceمِنْهَاfrom it

But the sparrows stand at a distance from it.

ذَلِكَthatعَرَفَتْknewدُرُوسَlessonsالْقِرَاءَةَreadingوَالْكِتَابَةَand writingنَجَاحًاsuccessسَرِيعًَاquickly,وَمَعَand withأَيِّanyإِنَّهُthatمَعَwithمَجِيءِthe arrivalفَصْلِseasonالرَّبِيعِthe springلَمnotيُعَدَّbe consideredهُنَاكَthereأَيُّanyحَيَوَانٍanimalأُمِّيٍّilliterate

That is, reading and writing lessons quickly achieved success, and with the arrival of the spring season, there was not considered any illiterate animal there.

لَقَدْindeedكَانَتْwereالْخَنَازِيرُthe pigsتَعْرِفُknewالْقِرَاءَةَreadingوَالْكِتَابَةَand writingبِإِتْقَانٍperfectly

Indeed, the pigs knew reading and writing perfectly.

وَالْكِلَابُAnd the dogsتَعَلَّمَتْlearnedالْقِرَاءَةَreadingبِيُسْرٍeasilyلَكِنَّهَاbut theyلَاdo notتَهْتَمُّcareسِوَىonlyبِالْوَصَايَاabout the commandmentsالسَّبْعِseven

And the dogs learned to read easily, but they only cared about the seven commandments.

كَانَتْwasالْعَنَزَةُthe goatمُورِيِلٌMuriel)أَفْضَلَbetterمِنْهَاthan her.

The goat Muriel was better than her.

أَحْيَانًاsometimesفِي-deاللَّيْلِthe nightكَانَتْwasتَقْرَأُreadingعَلَىtoبَاقِيthe rest ofالحَيَوَانَاتِthe animalsقَصَاصَاتٍclippingsالْجَرَائِدِthe newspapersالَّتِيthatوَجَدَتْfoundالْقُمَامَةَthe garbage,أَمَّاas forالْحِمَارُthe donkeyبِنْيَامِينُBenjaminفَيَسْتَطِيعُcouldالْقِرَاءَةَthe readingمِثْلَهُlike himمَثَلَbutأَيِّanyلَكِنَّهُbut heلَاdoes notيُمارِسُpracticeذَٰلِكَthatأَبَدًاever

Sometimes at night, she would read to the rest of the animals clippings from newspapers that she found in the garbage, as for the donkey Benjamin, he could read like any, but he never practiced that.

حَسَبَaccording toعِلْمِيmy knowledge,يَقُولُsays:لَاnoيُوجَدُthere isمَاwhatيَسْتَحِقُّis worthyالْقِرَاءَةَto be read.

According to my knowledge, he says: "There is nothing worth reading."

تَعَلَّمَتْlearnedكُلُوفَرُCloverالْحُرُوفَthe letters,لَكِنَّbutعَلْمُthe knowledgeالْكَلِمَاتِthe wordsكَانَwasيَفْلُتُslipمِنْهَاfrom her

Clover learned the letters, but knowledge of the words slipped from her.

As for Boxer, he could not go further than the letter (D).

وَبِحَافِرِهِAnd with his hoofالْكَبِيرِthe greatكَانَhe wasيَرْسُمُdrawingعَلَىonالْتُّرَابِthe dirtالْحُرُوفَthe lettersأَA,بَB,تَT,جَJ,ثُمَّthenيُحَدِّقُstaringفِيهَاat themبِعَيْنَيْهِwith his eyes,فِيمَاwhileأُذُنَاهُhis earsمُتَدَلِّيَتَانِdroopingوَمِنْand fromوَقْتٍtimeإِلَىtoآخَرَanotherيُبْعِدُpulls awayالْخَصْلَةَthe tuftالَّتِيthatتُغَطِّيcoversجَبْهَتَهُhis forehead.

And with his great hoof, he was drawing the letters A, B, T, J in the dirt, then staring at them with his eyes, while his drooping ears were pulling away the tuft that covered his forehead.

كَانَwasيَبْذُلُput forthجُهْدًَاeffortكَبِيرًَاbigفِيinتَذَكُّرِrememberingالْحَرفِthe letterالَّذِيthatيَأْتِيcomesفِيinتَرْتِيبِهَاits orderالْخَاصِّthe specific.

He was putting forth a big effort in remembering the letter that comes in its specific order.
