اَلْفَصْلُchapterالثَّالِثُthird
Chapter Three
كَيْفَhowكَانُواthey wereيَكَدُّونَtoilingوَيَشْقَوْنَand strugglingكَيْtoيَجْنُواharvestالْعَلَفَthe fodderلَكِنَّbut
How they toiled and struggled to harvest the fodder, but
مَجْهُودَاتِهِمْtheir effortsكُوفِئَتْwere rewardedبِبَغْلَةٍwith a mareأَوْفَرَmore abundantبِكَثِيرٍby a lotمِمَّاthan whatكَانُواthey wereيَعْتَقِدُونَthinking
they were rewarded with a mare much more abundant than they thought.
كَانَthere wasالْعَمَلُthe workفِيinبَعْضِsomeالْلَّحَظَاتِmoments
The work was very hard at some moments.
فَالأَدَوَاتُFor the toolsالْمُسْتَعْمَلَةُusedصُنِعَتْwere madeمِنْforأَجَلٍhumansالإِنْسَانُand notوَلَيْسَتْfor animals
For the tools used were made for humans, and not for animals,
فَكَانَso theهَذَاthisالْأَخِيرُlatterيَتَحَمَّلُboreالتَّبِعَاتِthe consequences
so the latter bore the consequences.
وَهَكَذَاAnd thusلَمْnoيَكُنْwasفِيinاسْتِطَاعَةٍpowerأَيِّanyحَيَوَانٍanimalأَنْtoيُسْتَعْمَلَuseأَقَلَّthe leastأَدَاةٍtoolتُرْغِمُهُthat forces itعَلَىtoالْبَقَاءِstayوَاقِفًاstandingعَلَىonقَائِمَتَيْهِits two legsالْخَلْفِيَتَيْنِthe back ones
And thus, no animal was able to use the least tool that forced it to stay standing on its two back legs.
وَمَعَAnd withذَلكَthatفَقَدْindeedكَانَتْwereالخَنَازِيرُthe pigsأَكْثَرَmoreذَكاءًintelligentحَتَّىevenأَنَّهَاthat theyوَجَدَتْfoundحَلًّاa solutionلِكُلِّfor everyمُشْكِلَةٍproblem
And indeed, the pigs were more intelligent; they even found a solution to every problem.
أَمَّاAs forالْخَيْلُthe horsesفَكَانَتْthey wereتَعْرِفُaware ofكُلَّeveryشِبْرٍinchمِنْofالْأَرْضِthe landوَمَاهِرَةًand skillfulفِيinالْحَصَادِharvestingوَالْمَشْطِand the combingأَفْضَلَbetterمِنْthanجُونَزَJonesوَرِجَالِهِand his menطُولَةَthroughoutحَيَاتِهِمْtheir lives.
As for the horses, they were aware of every inch of the land and skillful in harvesting and combing better than Jones and his men throughout their lives.
وَبِعَبَارَةٍIn clear terms,وَاضِحَةٍclearlyلَمْwere notتَكُنْwereالخَنَازِيرُthe pigsتَعْمَلُworkingلَقَدْtheyكَانَتْwereتُوَزِّعُdistributingالْعَمَلَthe workوَتُسْهِرُand overseeingعَلَىonحَسَنٍgoodتَنْفِيذِهِexecution.
In clear terms, the pigs were not doing the work; they were distributing the work and overseeing its good execution.
وَبِحُكْمِAnd due toمَعْرِفَتِهَاtheir knowledgeالْعَالِيَةِhighفَقَدْtheyكَانَwereمِنَit wasالطَّبِيعِيّnaturalأَنْthatتَتَوَلَّىthey take overالْقِيَادَةَthe leadership
And due to their high knowledge, it was natural for them to take over the leadership.
اِنْكَبُّواThey concentratedبُوكْسِرَBoxerوَكْلُوفَرَCloverوَحَدَهُمَاonly theyعَلَىonأَدَاةِtoolالْجَزِّof shearingأَوْorمَحَبَّةِthe loveالعَنَانِof reinsوَالشَّكِيمَةِand the bit –لَمْnotيَعُودَاreturnedضَرُورِيَّينِnecessary
Boxer and Clover concentrated only on the tool of shearing, or the love of the reins and the bit – they were not necessary.
فَكَانَاSo theyيَمْسَحَانِwere sweepingالْحَقْلَthe fieldطُولًاlengthwiseوَعَرْضًاand widthwiseفِيinأَثَرِهِمَاtheir tracksخِنزِيرٍa pig.
So they were sweeping the field lengthwise and widthwise, in their tracks a pig.
