O Commander of the Faithful, at the door is a Bedouin who has firmness, religion, and eloquence.
فَقَالَSo he said:يُؤْذَنُLet him be given leaveلَهُto enter.
So he said: Let him be given leave to enter.
فَلَمَّاSo whenدَخَلَhe entered,قَالَsaidلَهُto himسُلَيْمَانُSulayman:تَكَلَّمْSpeak.
So when he entered, Sulayman said to him: Speak.
قَالَHe said:يَاOأَمِيرَCommander ofالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe Faithful,إِنِّيverily Iمُكَلِّمُكَam speaking to you withكَلَامٍwords,فَاحْتَمِلْهُso bear themإِنْeven ifكَرِهْتَهُyou dislike them,فَإِنَّfor indeedوَرَاءَهُbehind themمَاis whatتُحِبُّyou love.
He said: O Commander of the Faithful, verily I am speaking to you with words, so bear them even if you dislike them, for indeed behind them is what you love.
قَالَHe said:يَاOأَعْرَابِيُّBedouin,إِنَّاverily weلَنَحْتَمِلُdo bearعَمَّنْfrom one whoلَاdoes notيَنْصَحُgive sincere advice,وَأَنْتَand you areالنَّاصِحُthe sincere adviserجَيْباًin heartوَالْمَأْمُونُand the trusted oneغَيْباًin absence.
He said: O Bedouin, verily we do bear from one who does not give sincere advice, and you are the sincere adviser in heart and the trusted one in absence.
فَقَالَSo he said:أَمَّاAs forإِذْsinceأَمِنْتَyou have securedبَادِرَةَthe sudden flash ofغَضَبِكَyour anger,فَإِنِّيthen verily Iسَأُطْلِقُshall unleashمِنْfromلسَانِيmy tongueمَاwhatخَرَسَتْhave been mute aboutعَنْهُitالْأَلْسُنُthe tongues,
So he said: As for since you have secured the sudden flash of your anger, then verily I shall unleash from my tongue what the tongues have been mute about,
تَأْدِيَةًfulfillingلِحَقِّthe right ofاللَّهِGodجَلَّwhose majesty is exaltedذِكْرُهُHis mention,وَحَقِّand the right ofإِمَامَتِكَyour leadership,يَاOأَمِيرَCommander ofالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe Faithful:
fulfilling the right of God whose majesty is exalted His mention, and the right of your leadership, O Commander of the Faithful:
إِنَّهُverilyقَدْhasتَكَنَّفَكَsurrounded youقَوْمٌa people whoأَسَاؤُواhave done badly inالِاخْتِيَارَchoosingلِأَنْفُسِهِمْfor themselves,فَابْتَاعُواso they tradedدُنْيَاكَyour worldبِدِينِهِمْfor their religionوَرِضَاكَand your pleasureبِسَخَطِfor the wrath ofرَبِّهِمْtheir Lord,
verily there has surrounded you a people who have done badly in choosing for themselves, so they traded your world for their religion and your pleasure for the wrath of their Lord,

حَرْبٌat warلِلْآخِرَةِwith the Hereafter,سِلْمٌat peaceلِلدُّنْيَاwith the world,
at war with the Hereafter, at peace with the world,
فَلَاso do notتَأْمَنْهُمْtrust themعَلَىwithمَاwhatائْتَمَنَكَentrusted you withاللَّهُGodجَلَّwhose majesty is exaltedوَعَزَّand almighty,فَإِنَّهُمْfor indeed theyلَاwill notيَأْلُونَfall short inلِلْأَمَانَةِthe trustتَضْيِيعاًin wasting itوَلِلْأُمَّةِand the nationخَسْفاًin debasing itوَعَسْفاًand oppressing it,
so do not trust them with what God whose majesty is exalted and almighty entrusted you with, for indeed they will not fall short in the trust in wasting it and the nation in debasing it and oppressing it,
وَأَنْتَand you areمَسْؤُولٌquestioned,مُحَاسَبٌheld to accountعَلَىforمَاwhatاجْتَرَحْتَyou have committed,فَلَاso do notتُصْلِحْset rightدُنْيَاهُمْtheir worldبِفَسَادِat the expense of the corruption ofآخِرَتِكَyour Hereafter,

for indeed the greatest of people in loss is one who sells his Hereafter for the world of someone else!
فَقَالَSo saidسُلَيْمَانُSulayman:يَاOأَعْرَابِيُّBedouin,إِنَّverilyلِسَانَكَyour tongueلَأَقْطَعُis indeed sharperمِنْthanسَيْفِكَyour sword!
So said Sulayman: O Bedouin, verily your tongue is indeed sharper than your sword!
قَالَHe said:أَجَلْYes,يَاOأَمِيرَCommander ofالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe Faithful,هُوَit isلَكَfor youلَاnotعَلَيْكَagainst you.
He said: Yes, O Commander of the Faithful, it is for you not against you.
فَقَالَSo saidلَهُto himسُلَيْمَانُSulayman:هَلْDoلَكَyou haveحَاجَةٌa needفِيconcerningذَاتِyourselfنَفْسِكَpersonally?

قَالَHe said:لَاNoحَاجَةَneedلِيdo I haveفِيinشَيْءٍanythingخَاصٍّspecificدُونَinstead ofعَامٍgeneral.
He said: No need do I have in anything specific instead of general.
