وَكُلُّ
And allهَذِهِ
of these- فِي
- inالْحَقِيقَةِ -
reality -And all of these - in reality -
لَيْسَتْ
are notمِنْ
fromأَسْبَابِ
the occasionsالنُّزُولِ
of revelationفِي
inشَيْءٍ
any wayare not from the occasions of revelation in any way
وَلَيْسَ
and it is notمِنْ
fromشُرُوطِ
the conditionsالْمُفَسِّرِ
of the exegeteand it is not from the conditions of the exegete
اسْتِيعَابُهَا
comprehending themوَالْإِحَاطَةُ
and encompassingبِهَا.
them.comprehending them and encompassing them.
إِنَّمَا
It is only thatيُشْتَرَطُ
it is stipulatedعَلَى
uponالْمُفَسِّرِ
the exegeteفِي
inهَذَا
thisالْبَابِ
chapterIt is only stipulated upon the exegete in this chapter
مَعْرِفَةُ
knowledge ofشَيْئَيْنِ:
two things:knowledge of two things:
1 - Knowledge of those stories which the noble verses include alluding to them
فَإِنَّ
for indeedفَهْمَ
understandingإِيمَاءِ
the hintهَذِهِ
of theseالْآيَاتِ
versesوَإِشَارَتِهَا
and their indicationfor indeed understanding the hint of these verses and their indication
لَا
doesيَتَيَسَّرُ
not become easyإِلَّا
exceptبِمَعْرِفَةِ
by knowingتِلْكَ
thoseالْقَصَصِ.
stories.does not become easy except by knowing those stories.
2 - The second: knowledge of that story which benefits the specification of the general
وَأَمْثَالِ
and likesذَلِكَ
of thatمِمَّا
from whatيُصْرَفُ
is divertedفِيهِ
in itالْكَلَامُ
the speechعَنْ
fromظَاهِرِهِ
its apparentالْمُتَبَادَرِ
readily understoodمِنْهُ
from itand likes of that from what speech is diverted in it from its apparent meaning readily understood from it
إِذْ
sinceأَنَّ
thatفَهْمَ
understandingمَقَاصِدِ
the objectivesالْآيَاتِ
of the versesوَمَرَامِيهَا
and their goalssince understanding the objectives of the verses and their goals
لَا
doesيَتَأَتَّى
come aboutبِدُونِ
withoutذَلِكَ.
that.does not come about without that.
أَكْثَرُ
Mostقَصَصِ
of the storiesالْأَنْبِيَاءِ
of the prophetsالسَّابِقِينَ
formerمِنْ
is fromرِوَايَاتِ
narrationsأَهْلِ
of the Peopleالْكِتَابِ:
of the Book:Most stories of the former prophets are from narrations of the People of the Book:
وَيَنْبَغِي
And it is fittingأَنْ
thatيُعْلَمَ
it be knownهُنَا،
here,And it is fitting that it be known here,
أَنَّ
thatقَصَصَ
the storiesالْأَنْبِيَاءِ
of the prophetsالسَّابِقِينَ
formerthat the stories of the former prophets
لَمْ
were notتُذْكَرْ
mentionedفِي
inالْأَحَادِيثِ
the traditionsالصَّحِيحَةِ
authenticإِلَّا
exceptقَلِيلًا،
a little,were not mentioned in the authentic traditions except a little,
وَأَنَّ
and thatهَذِهِ
theseالْقَصَصَ
storiesالطَّوِيلَةَ
longالْعَرِيضَةَ
and broadand that these long and broad stories
الَّتِي
whichيَتَجَشَّمُ
undertakeرِوَايَتَهَا
narrating themالْمُفَسِّرُونَ،
the exegetes,which the exegetes undertake narrating,
وَيَحُكُونَهَا
and they recount themفِي
inتَفَاسِيرِهِمْ
their exegesesكُلَّهَا
all of themand they recount them in their exegeses all of them
مَنْقُولَةٌ
are transmittedعَنْ
fromأَهْلِ
the Peopleالْكِتَابِ
of the Bookإِلَّا
exceptمَا
whatشَاءَ
willedاللَّهُ
God- تَعَالَى -.
- Most High -.are transmitted from the People of the Book except what God - Most High - willed.
وَقَدْ
And indeedجَاءَ
it cameفِي
inصَحِيحِ
Sahihالْبُخَارِيِّ:
al-Bukhari:And indeed it came in Sahih al-Bukhari:
"لَا"Do not
تُصَدِّقُواbelieve
أَهْلَthe People
الْكِتَابِof the Book
وَلَاand do not
تُكَذِّبُوهُمْ".disbelieve them".
"Do not believe the People of the Book and do not disbelieve them".
