    [سَعَةُ

    [The breadth

    مَجَالِ

    of the scope

    النَّسْخِ

    of abrogation

    عِنْدَ

    among

    الْمُتَقَدِّمِينَ:]

    the early scholars:]

[The breadth of the scope of abrogation among the early scholars:]

    وَهَكَذَا

    And thus

    اتَّسَعَ

    widened

    بَابُ

    the door

    النَّسْخِ

    of abrogation

    عِنْدَهُمْ

    with them

    وَتَوَسَّعُوا

    and they expanded

    فِي

    in

    مَوْضُوعِهِ،

    its subject,

    وَكَانَ

    and was

    لِلْعَقْلِ

    for the intellect

    فِيهِ

    in it

    مَجَالٌ

    a scope

    فَسِيحٌ،

    vast,

    وَلِلِاخْتِلَافِ

    and for disagreement

    فِيهِ

    in it

    مَكَانٌ

    a place

    وَاسِعٌ.

    wide.

And thus the door of abrogation widened among them and they expanded its subject, and the intellect had a vast scope in it, and disagreement had a wide place in it.

    وَلِذَلِكَ

    And therefore

    بَلَغَتِ

    reached

    الْآيَاتُ

    the verses

    الْمَنْسُوخَةُ

    abrogated

    إِلَى

    to

    خَمْسُمِائَةِ

    five hundred

    آيَةٍ،

    verse,

    بَلْ

    nay,

    إِذَا

    if

    حَقَّقْتَ

    you examine closely

    النَّظَرَ

    the view

    تَجِدُهَا

    you will find them

    غَيْرَ

    not

    مَحْصُورَةً

    restricted

    بِعَدَدٍ.

    by a number.

And therefore the abrogated verses reached five hundred verses, nay, if you examine the view closely you will find them not restricted by a number.
