يَا
Oأَيُّهَا
you whoالَّذِينَ
whoآمَنُوا
believed,O you who have believed,
إِذَا
whenقُمْتُمْ
you riseإِلَى
toالصَّلَاةِ
the prayer,when you rise to prayer,
فَاغْسِلُوا
then washوُجُوهَكُمْ
your facesوَأَيْدِيَكُمْ
and your handsإِلَى
up toالْمَرَافِقِ
the elbows,then wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows,
وَامْسَحُوا
and wipeبِرُءُوسِكُمْ
over your headsوَأَرْجُلَكُمْ
and your feetإِلَى
up toالْكَعْبَيْنِ
the ankles.and wipe over your heads and your feet up to the ankles.
لَاI do not
أَجِدُfind
فِيin
كِتَابِthe Book
اللَّهِof Allah
إِلَّاexcept
الْمَسْحَthe wiping,
"I do not find in the Book of Allah except the wiping,
لَكِنَّهُمْbut they
أَبَوْاrefused
إِلَّاexcept
الْغَسْلَthe washing."
but they refused except the washing."
فَالَّذِي
So whatيَفْهَمُهُ
understandsالْفَقِيرُ
the humble servantمِنْ
fromقَوْلِهِ
his sayingهَذَا
this,So what the humble servant understands from this saying of his,
أَنَّهُ
is thatلَيْسَ
it is notذَهَاباً
an inclinationمِنْهُ
from himإِلَى
towardsرَأْيِ
the opinion ofصِحَّةِ
the validity ofالْمَسْحِ
wipingعَلَى
overالْأَرْجُلِ
the feetis that it is not an inclination from him towards the opinion of the validity of wiping over the feet
وَالْحَزْمُ
while cautionبِحَمْلِ
lies in carryingالْآيَةِ
the verseعَلَى
uponرُكْنِيَّةِ
the pillar status of- رَضِيَ
- may Allah be pleasedاللَّهُ
withعَنْهُمَا -
them both -هُوَ
which isالْغَسْلُ
the washing,while caution - may Allah be pleased with them both - lies in carrying the verse upon the obligation of washing,
وَلَكِنَّهُ
and rather heيُقَرِّرُ
is statingهُنَا
hereإِشْكَالاً
a difficultyوَيُبْدِي
and displayingاحْتِمَالاً
a possibility,and rather he is stating a difficulty here and displaying a possibility,
حَتَّى
so thatيَرَى
he seesكَيْفَ
howيُطَبِّقُ
reconcileفُقَهَاءُ
the juristsعَصْرِهِ
of his eraبَيْنَ
betweenهَذَيْنِ
these twoالْأَمْرَيْنِ
mattersالْمُتَعَارِضَيْنِ
conflicting,so that he sees how the jurists of his era reconcile between these two conflicting matters,
وَمَا
and whatهُوَ
isالْمَنْهَجُ
the methodologyلِلدَّلِيلِ
for the proofالَّذِي
whichيَسْلُكُونَهُ
they follow.and what the methodology for the proof is which they follow.
أَمَّا
As forالَّذِينَ
those whoلَا
do notيَعْرِفُونَ
knowمَحَاوَرَاتِ
the dialogues ofالسَّلَفِ
the predecessorsوَمَنَاهِجَ
and the methodologies ofمُنَاقَشَاتِهِمْ
their discussionsوَمُنَاظَرَاتِهِمْ
and their debates,As for those who do not know the dialogues of the predecessors and the methodologies of their discussions and their debates,
يَظُنُّونَ
they thinkذَلِكَ
thatقَوْلاً
to be a sayingلِابْنِ
of Ibnعَبَّاسٍ
Abbas- رَضِيَ
- may Allah be pleasedاللَّهُ
withعَنْهُمَا -
them both -وَمَذْهَباً
and a school of thought.they think that to be a saying of Ibn Abbas - may Allah be pleased with them both - and a school of thought.
حَاشَاهُ
Far removed is heثُمَّ
thenحَاشَاهُ
far removed is he!Far removed is he then far removed is he!

2- وَالْأَصْلُ
- And the second principleالثَّانِي
isأَنَّ
thatالنَّقْلَ
narrationsعَنْ
fromبَنِي
the Children ofإِسْرَائِيلَ
Israelوَالرِّوَايَاتِ
and the reportsالْمَحْكِيَّةَ
narratedعَنْهُمْ
from themدُسَّتْ
were smuggledفِي
intoدِينِنَا
our religion,2 - And the second principle is that narrations from the Children of Israel and the reports narrated from them were smuggled into our religion,
وَقَدْ
and indeedتَقَرَّرَتْ
has been establishedلِذَلِكَ
for thatقَاعِدَةٌ
a ruleمُهِمَّةٌ
important,and indeed an important rule has been established for that,
أَلَا
which isوَهِيَ
none other thanقَوْلُهُ
his saying- صَلَّى
- may the blessings and peace of Allah beاللَّهُ
upon himعَلَيْهِ
and hisوَسَلَّمَ -
salutation -which is none other than his saying - may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him -
"لَا"Do not
تُصَدِّقُواbelieve
أَهْلَthe People of
الْكِتَابِthe Book
وَلَاand do not
تُكَذِّبُوهُمْ"deny them."
"Do not believe the People of the Book and do not deny them."
مُرَاعَاةُ
Observingأَمْرَيْنِ
two mattersفِي
inالرِّوَايَاتِ
the Israeliteالْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّةِ
reports:Observing two matters in the Israelite reports:
فَلَزِمَ
So it became necessaryلِأَجْلِ
for the sake ofذَلِكَ
thatأَمْرَانِ
two matters:So for the sake of that, two matters became necessary:
