كَالزَّهْرِ
like the flowerفِي
inشَرَفٍ
nobilityLike the flower in nobility
وَالْبَدْرِ
and the full moonفِي
inشَرَفٍ
nobilityand the full moon in nobility.
وَالْبَحْرِ
and the seaفِي
inكَرَمٍ
generosityAnd the sea in generosity
وَالدَّهْرِ
and timeفِي
inهِمَمٍ
high aspirationsand time in high aspirations.
السِّرُّ
The secretفِي
inقِصَرِ
the shortness ofآيَةٍ
a verseمَعَ
withطُولِ
the length ofأُخْرَى
anotherThe secret in the shortness of a verse with the length of another:
وَتَأْتِي
And comesأَحْيَانًا
sometimesآيَةٌ
a verseطَوِيلَةٌ
longمَعَ
withآيَةٍ
a verseقَصِيرَةٍ
shortAnd sometimes a long verse comes with a short verse,
وَالسِّرُّ
and the secretفِي
inمِثْلِ
suchهَذِهِ
theseالْمَوَاضِعِ
placesand the secret in such places
أَنَّهُ
is thatلَوْ
ifوُضِعَ
were placedحُسْنُ
the beauty ofالْكَلَامِ
speechis that if the beauty of speech
وَجَمَالُ
and the elegance ofالتَّعْبِيرِ
expressionالَّذِي
whichنَشَأَ
originatedand elegance of expression that originated
مِنْ
fromتَقَارُبِ
the closeness ofالْوَزْنِ
meterوَوِجْدَانِ
and findingالْأَمْرِ
the matterالْمُنْتَظَرِ
awaitedالْمَطْلُوبِ
desiredfrom the proximity of meter and finding the awaited desired matter
الَّذِي
whichهُوَ
isالْقَافِيَةُ
the rhymeحَسَبَمَا
according to whatعَرَفْتَ
you knewبِهَا
by itwhich is the rhyme (according to what you knew by it)
فِي
inكَفَّةٍ
one scalein one scale,
وَوُضِعَ
and were placedحُسْنُ
the beauty ofالْكَلَامِ
speechand the beauty of speech
وَعُذُوبَةُ
and the sweetness ofالْعِبَارَةِ
the phraseالنَّاشِئَةِ
arisingمِنْ
fromسُهُولَةِ
the ease ofالْأَدَاءِ
deliveryand sweetness of phrase arising from the ease of delivery
وَسَلَاسَتِهِ
and its fluencyوَمُوَافَقَةِ
and conformity toطَبْعِ
the nature ofالْكَلَامِ
speechand its fluency, conformity to the nature of speech,
وَعَدَمِ
and absence ofلُحُوقِ
affectingأَيِّ
anyتَغَيُّرٍ
changeفِيهِ
in itفِي
inكَفَّةٍ
another scaleأُخْرَى
otherand lack of any change in it in another scale,
فَإِنَّ
then indeedالْفِطْرَةَ
the innate dispositionالسَّلِيمَةَ
soundسَوْفَ
willتَمِيلُ
inclineإِلَى
towardجَانِبِ
the side ofالْمَعْنَى
meaningthen the sound innate disposition will incline toward the side of meaning
وَتُرَجِّحُهُ
and favor itفَيُهْمَلُ
so is neglectedلِذَلِكَ
due to thatانْتِظَارُ
waiting forشَيْءٍ
somethingand favor it, so waiting for something is neglected for that
وَهُوَ
and it isالْقَافِيَةُ
the rhyme(which is the rhyme)
وَيُؤَدَّى
and is fulfilledحَقُّ
the right ofالِانْتِظَارِ
waitingوَالطَّلَبِ
and the demandالْآخَرِ
otherكَامِلًا
completeمَوْفُورًا
abundantوَهُوَ
and it isالْجَانِبُ
the aspectالْمَعْنَوِيُّ
meaningfuland the right of waiting and the other demand is fulfilled completely and abundantly (which is the meaningful aspect).

Exalted is Heجَرَتْ

uponذَلِكَ
thatthat the practice of Allah - the Exalted - proceeded upon that
فِي
inأَكْثَرِ
most ofالسُّوَرِ
the surahsالْقُرْآنِيَّةِ
Quranicin most of the Quranic surahs,
إِنَّمَا
is onlyهُوَ
itلِأَجْلِ
for the sake thatبَعْضَ
some ofالسُّوَرِ
the surahsالْقُرْآنِيَّةِ
Quranicis only for the reason that some of the Quranic surahs
لَمْ
notيُرَاعَ
was observedفِيهَا
in itهَذَا
thisالنَّوْعُ
typeمِنْ
ofالْوَزْنِ
meterوَالْقَافِيَةِ
and rhymedid not observe in it this type of meter and rhyme.
فَجَاءَتْ
So cameطَائِفَةٌ
a groupمِنْ
ofهَذِهِ
theseالسُّوَرِ
surahsSo a group of these surahs came
عَلَى
uponطَرِيقِ
the way ofخُطَبِ
the speeches ofالْخُطَبَاءِ
oratorsupon the manner of the speeches of orators,
وَأَمْثِلَةِ
and the examples ofالْبُلَغَاءِ
eloquent peopleوَالْحُكَمَاءِ
and wise peoplethe examples of eloquent speakers and wise people.
وَلَعَلَّكَ
And perhaps youقَدْ
haveسَمِعْتَ
heardرِوَايَةَ
the narration ofسَمَرِ
night conversation ofالنِّسَاءِ
womenAnd perhaps you have heard the narration of women's night conversation
الَّتِي
whichرَوَتْهَا
narrated itعَائِشَةُ
Aishaرَضِيَ
may Allah be pleasedاللَّهُ
with Allahعَنْهَا
with herwhich Aisha - may Allah be pleased with her - narrated,
وَنَظَرْتَ
and you lookedفِي
atقَوَافِيهَا
its rhymesand you looked at its rhymes.
