and that which we used the word 'al-nashid' to hint at as an absolute common measure,

then defining those matters and characteristics which were adhered to in the verses and which distinguish them from others,

فَ

so

كُلُّ

all

all of that needs detail,

تَذَوُّقُ

The tasting of

الْفِطْرَةِ

the sound nature

السَّلِيمَةِ:

(salimah):

Tasting of the Sound Nature:

وَ

and

تَفْصِيلُ

the detail of

هَذَا

this

الْإِجْمَالِ

summary

هُوَ

is that

أَنَّ

that

الْفِطْرَةَ

the sound nature

السَّلِيمَةَ

sound

تُدْرِكُ

perceives

فِي

in

الْقَصَائِدِ

the poems

الْمَوْزُونَةِ

metered

الْمُقَفَّاةِ

rhymed

وَ

and

الْأَرَاجِيزِ

the poetic pieces

words

الْمَوْزُونَةِ

metered

مُتْعَةً

a special pleasure

خَاصَّةً،

special,

And the detail of this summary is that the sound nature perceives in metered rhymed poems, beautiful delightful rajaz poems, and the like of metered words a special pleasure,

وَ

and

تَتَذَوَّقُ

tastes

[السِّرُّ

[The secret

[The Secret in the Harmony of the Parts of Speech:]

وَ

and

إِذَا

if

تَأَمَّلْتَ

you contemplate

فِي

in

سَبَبِ

the cause of

هَذَا

this

الْإِدْرَاكِ

perception

وَ

and

بَحَثْتَ

search

عَنِ

for

السِّرِّ

the secret

وَرَاءَ

behind

هَذَا

this

التَّذَوُّقِ

tasting

تَجِدْ

you will find

أَنَّ

that

الْكَلَامَ

speech

إِذَا

if

كَانَتْ

its

أَجْزَاؤُهُ

parts

يُوَافِقُ

agree with

بَعْضُهَا

some of them

بَعْضاً

others

فَ

then

إِنَّهُ

it

يُنْشِئُ

creates

فِي

in

نَفْسِ

the soul of

الْمُخَاطَبِ

the listener

لَذَّةً

a pleasure

خَاصَّةً

special

وَ

and

يَدْعُوهُ

invites him

إِلَى

to

انْتِظَارِ

anticipate

مِثْلِهِ

the like of it

وَ

and

الشَّوْقِ

yearn

إِلَيْهِ،

for it,

And if you contemplate the cause of this perception and search for the secret behind this tasting, you will find that if the parts of speech agree with one another, it creates in the listener's soul a special pleasure and invites him to anticipate the like of it and yearn for it,

فَ

so

إِذَا

if

وَرَدَ

there comes

بَعْدَ

after

ذَلِكَ

that

الْبَيْتُ

the verse

الثَّانِي

second

-

-

مَثَلًا

for example

-

-

مَعَ

with

ذَلِكَ

that

التَّوَافُقِ

harmony

وَ

and

الِانسِجَامِ

accord

بَيْنَ

between

أَجْزَائِهِ

its parts

وَقَعَ

it falls

مَوْقِعَهُ

in its place

عَلَى

upon

نَفْسِ

the soul of

الْمُخَاطَبِ

the listener

وَ

and

تَحَقَّقَ

is achieved

الْأَمْرُ

the matter

الْمَطْلُوبُ

desired

الْمُنْتَظَرُ

awaited

فَ

so

إِنَّ

indeed

هَذِهِ

this

اللَّذَّةَ

pleasure

تَتَضَاعَفُ،

doubles,

so if the second verse comes—for example—with that harmony and accord between its parts, it falls in its proper place upon the listener's soul and the desired awaited matter is achieved, then this pleasure doubles,

ثُمَّ

then

إِذَا

if

كَانَ

are

الْبَيْتَانِ

the two verses

كِلَاهُمَا

both of them

يَشْتَمِلَانِ

including

عَلَى

rhyme

وَاحِدَةٍ

single

زَادَتِ

increased

اللَّذَّةُ

the pleasure

ثَلَاثَةَ

three

أَضْعَافِهَا.

times its fold.

then if both verses include a single rhyme, the pleasure increases threefold.

فَ

so

التَّمَتُّعُ

enjoyment

وَ

and

الِالْتِذَاذُ

taking pleasure

بِ

in

الْأَبْيَاتِ

the verses

الشِّعْرِيَّةِ

poetic

بِسَبَبِ

is a nature

قَدِيمَةٌ

ancient

upon it

الْبَشَرُ،

mankind,

So enjoyment and taking pleasure in poetic verses because of this subtle secret is an ancient nature upon which mankind was created,

وَ
