thoseالْعِبَادِ
servantsالْمُقَرَّبِينَ
the brought-nearwith those brought-near servants
حَتَّى
so thatيَكُونَ
it may beهَذَا
thisوَسِيلَةً
a meansso that this may be a means
لِصَلَاحِيَّةِ
for the validity ofالْقَبُولِ
acceptanceفِي
inحَضْرَةِ
the presence ofالْمَلِكِ
the Kingالْحَقِيقِيِّ
the Truefor the validity of acceptance in the presence of the True King
وَتَنَالَ
and that may be attainedشَفَاعَتُهُمْ
their intercessionفِي
inحَقِّهِمْ
their regardand their intercession be attained in their regard
عِنْدَ
atالْجَزَاءِ
the recompenseعَلَى
forالْأَعْمَالِ
the deedsالْحِسَابِ
the reckoningat the recompense for the deeds and the reckoning
الْخُطْوَةِ
the stepوَالْقَبُولِ
and the acceptanceلَدَيْهِ
with Himسُبْحَانَهُ
Glory be to Himthe step and acceptance with Him, Glory be to Him.
وَنَظَرًا
and in view ofلِهَذِهِ
thisالْمُلَاحَظَةِ
observationوَالتَّصَوُّرِ
and the conceptionAnd in view of this observation and conception
الَّذِي
whichرَسَخَ
became firmly rootedفِي
inنُفُوسِهِمْ
their soulswhich became firmly rooted in their souls
حَدَّثَتْهُمْ
prompted themأَنْفُسُهُمْ
their selvesبِالسُّجُودِ
to prostrateأَمَامَهُمْ
before themtheir selves prompted them to prostrate before them
وَالذَّبْحِ
and to slaughterلَهُمْ
for themوَالْحْلِفِ
and to swearبِأَسْمَائِهِمْ
by their namesand to slaughter for them, swear by their names
وَالِاسْتِعَانَةِ
and to seek helpبِقُدْرَتِهِمُ
through their powerالْمُطْلَقَةِ
absoluteand seek help through their absolute power
وَنَحْتِ
and to carveصُوَرِهِمْ
their imagesوَتَمَاثِيلِهِمْ
and their statuesand to carve their images and statues
مِنَ
fromالْحَجَرِ
stoneوَالصُّفْرِ
and brassوَالنُّحَاسِ
and copperوَغَيْرِ
and otherذَلِكَ
thatfrom stone, brass, copper, and other than that
وَجَعْلِهَا
and making themقِبْلَةً
a directionلِلتَّوَجُّهِ
for turningإِلَى
towardsأَرْوَاحِهِمْ
their spiritsand making them a direction for turning towards their spirits.
وَتَدَرَّجَ
and progressedالْجَهَلَةُ
the ignorantمِنْ
fromهَذَا
thisالطَّرِيقِ
pathAnd the ignorant progressed from this path
إِلَى
untilأَنْ
thatبَدَأُوا
they beganيَعْبُدُونَ
worshippingهَذِهِ
theseالصُّوَرَ
imagesوَالتَّمَاثِيلَ
and statuesuntil they began worshipping these images and statues
وَيَعْتَقِدُونَ
and believingأَنَّهَا
that theyآلِهَةٌ
are godsبِذَاتِهَا
in themselvesand believing that they are gods in themselves
وَوَقَعَ
and there occurredفِي
inالْمُعْتَقَدَاتِ
the beliefsخَلْطٌ
confusionوَالْتِبَاسٌ
and ambiguityوَفَسَادٌ
and corruptionعَظِيمٌ
greatand there occurred in the beliefs a great confusion, ambiguity, and corruption.

The meaning ofالتَّشْبِيهِ
anthropomorphismوَصُوَرِهِ
and its formsThe meaning of anthropomorphism and its forms:
وَالتَّشْبِيهُ
And anthropomorphismعِبَارَةٌ
is an expressionعَنْ
ofإِثْبَاتِ
affirmingالصِّفَاتِ
the attributesالْبَشَرِيَّةِ
humanAnd anthropomorphism is an expression of affirming human attributes
أَوْ
orأَيُّ
anyصِفَةٍ
attributeمِنْ
fromصِفَاتِ
attributes ofالْمَخْلُوقِينَ
the created beingsor any attribute of the attributes of created beings
لِلَّهِ
to Allahتَعَالَى
Most Highto Allah, the Most High.
فَكَانُوا
So they wereيَقُولُونَ
sayingمَثَلًا
for exampleSo they were saying for example:
إِنَّ
thatالْمَلَائِكَةَ
the angelsبَنَاتُ
daughters ofاللَّهِ
Allahthat the angels are the daughters of Allah
وَأَنَّهُ
and that Heيَقْبَلُ
acceptsشَفَاعَةَ
the intercession ofعِبَادِهِ
His servantsand that He accepts the intercession of His servants
وَلَوْ
even ifلَمْ
notيَرْضَ
He is pleasedبِهَا
with iteven if He is not pleased with it
كَمَا
just asيَفْعَلُ
doesالْمُلُوكُ
kingsأَحْيَانًا
sometimesjust as kings sometimes do
مَعَ
withالْأُمَرَاءِ
the princesالْكِبَارِ
the greatوَحُكَّامِ
and governors ofالْوِلَايَاتِ
the provinceswith great princes and governors of the provinces.
وَأَنَّهُمْ
And that theyلَمَّا
whenلَمْ
did notيَسْتَطِيعُوا
they manageإِدْرَاكَ
to comprehendالسَّمْعِ
the hearingوَالْبَصَرِ
and the sightAnd that they, when they could not comprehend hearing and sight
حَسَبَمَا
according to whatيَلِيقُ
befitsبِشَأْنِ
the status ofالْأُلُوهِيَّةِ
divinityaccording to what befits the status of divinity
قَاسُوهُمَا
they analogized themعَلَى
toأَسْمَاعِهِمْ
their own hearingsthey analogized them to their own hearings.
