فَإِذَاand thenهُوَheيَكْتَنِزُaccumulatedشَحْمًاfat
And then he had accumulated fat.
وَقَدْand indeedكَانَwasغَصَّchokedبِلُقْمَةٍwith a morsel
And he had choked on a morsel.
وَهُوَand heالْمُسْتَسْقِيthe one asking for drinkفَفَرَغَand he finishedمِنَfromالشَّرَابِthe drink
And he, who had asked for drink, finished the drink.
وَقَدْand indeedغَرَفَscoopedمِنْfromبَطْنِهَاits bellyكُلُّeveryإِنْسَانٍpersonمِنْهُمْamong themبِلُقْمَتِهِwith his morselغَرْفَةًa scoop
And each of them had scooped a portion from its belly with his morsel.
وَكَانَand wasعِيسَىJesusيَنْتَخِبُchoosingالْأُكْلَةَthe meal
And Jesus was choosing the meal.
وَيَخْتَارُand selectingمِنْهُمْamong themكُلَّeveryمَنْهُومٍgreedyفِيهِfor it
And selecting among them every one greedy for it.
وَمَفْتُونٍand infatuatedبِهِwith it
And infatuated with it.
فَلَمَّاand whenخَافَfearedعَلَيَّfor meالْأَسْوَارِيُّal-Aswariالْإِخْفَاقَfailure
And when al-Aswari feared failure for me.
وَأَشْفَقَand dreadedمِنَfromالْفَوْتِloss
And dreaded the loss.
وَكَانَand wasأَقْرَبَهُمْclosest of themإِلَيْهِto himعِيسَىJesus
And Jesus was the closest of them to him.
اسْتَلَبَsnatchedمِنْfromيَدِهِhis handاللُّقْمَةَthe morsel
He snatched the morsel from his hand.
بِأَسْرَعَwith fasterمِنْthanخَطْفَةِsnatch ofالْبَازِيthe falcon
Faster than the snatch of a falcon.
وَانْكِدَارِand swoop ofالْعُقَابِthe eagle
And the swoop of an eagle.
مِنْwithoutغَيْرِother thanأَنْthatيَكُونَhe hasأَكَلَeatenعِنْدَهُwith himقَبْلَbeforeمَرَّتِهِhis time
Without his having eaten with him before that time.
فَقِيلَand it was saidلَهُto him
So it was said to him.
وَيْحَكَwoe to you
Woe to you!
اسْتَلَبْتَyou snatchedلُقْمَةَthe morsel ofالْأَمِيرِthe princeمِنْfromيَدِهِhis hand
You snatched the prince's morsel from his hand.
وَقَدْand indeedرَفَعَهَاhe raised itإِلَيْهِto himوَشَحَاand he openedلَهَاfor itفَاهُhis mouth
While he had raised it to his mouth and opened his mouth for it.
مِنْwithoutغَيْرِother thanمُؤَانَسَةٍfamiliarityوَلَاnorمُمَازَحَةٍjokingسَالِفَةٍprevious
Without previous familiarity or joking.
قَالَhe said
He said.
لَمْnotيَكُنِwasالْأَمْرُthe matterكَذَلِكَso
The matter was not so.
وَكَذَبَand liedمَنْwhoقَالَsaidذَلِكَthat
And the one who said that lied.
وَلَكِنَّاbut weأَهْوَيْنَاloweredأَيْدِيَنَاour handsمَعًاtogether
But we lowered our hands together.
فَوَقَعَتْand fellيَدِيmy handفِيonمُقَدَّمِfront ofالشَّحْمَةِthe fat
My hand fell on the front of the fat.
وَوَقَعَتْand fellيَدُهُhis handفِيonمُؤَخَّرِback ofالشَّحْمَةِthe fatمَعًاtogether
And his hand fell on the back of the fat, together.
وَالشَّحْمُand the fatمُلْتَبِسٌintertwinedبِالْأَمْعَاءِwith the intestines
And the fat was intertwined with the intestines.
فَلَمَّاand whenرَفَعْنَاwe raisedأَيْدِيَنَاour handsمَعًاtogether
And when we raised our hands together.
كُنْتُI wasأَنَاIأَسْرَعَfasterحَرَكَةًin movement
I was faster in movement.
وَكَانَتْand wereالْأَمْعَاءُthe intestinesمُتَّصِلَةًconnectedغَيْرَnotمُتَبَايِنَةٍseparated
And the intestines were connected, not separated.
فَتَحَوَّلَand transferredكُلُّeverythingشَيْءٍthingكَانَwasفِيinلُقْمَتِهِhis morselبِتِلْكَby thatالْجَذْبَةِpull
So everything that was in his morsel transferred by that pull.
إِلَىtoلُقْمَتِيmy morsel
To my morsel.
لِاتِّصَالِdue to connection ofالْجِنْسِthe kindبِالْجِنْسِwith the kind
Due to the connection of kind with kind.
وَالْجَوْهَرِand substanceبِالْجَوْهَرِwith substance
And substance with substance.
وَأَنَاand IكَيْفَhowأُؤَاكِلُI eat withأَقْوَامًاpeopleيَصْنَعُونَwho doهَذَاthisالصَّنِيعَdeed
And how could I eat with people who do such a deed?
ثُمَّthenيَحْتَجُّونَthey argueلَهُfor itبِمِثْلِwith likeهَذِهِtheseالْحُجَجِarguments
Then they argue for it with such arguments?
ثُمَّthenقَالَhe said
Then he said.
إِنَّكُمْindeed youتُشِيرُونَadviseعَلَيَّmeبِمُلَابَسَةِto mix withشِرَارِevil ofالْخَلْقِcreation
Indeed you advise me to mix with the evil of creation.
وَأَنْذَالِand lowlifes ofالنَّاسِpeople
And the lowlifes of people.
وَبِكُلِّand with everyعَيَّابٍdefamerمُتَعَتِّبٍcomplainer
And with every defamer and complainer.
وَوَثَّابٍand attackerعَلَىonأَعْرَاضِhonor ofالنَّاسِpeopleمُتَسَرِّعٍhasty
And an attacker on people's honor, hasty.
وَهَؤُلَاءِand theseلَمْnotيَرْضَوْاthey are satisfiedأَنْthatيَدْعُوَهُمُpeople invite themالنَّاسُpeople
And these are not satisfied that people invite them.
وَلَاnorيَدْعُواthey inviteالنَّاسَpeople
Nor do they invite people.
وَأَنْand thatيَأْكُلُواthey eatوَلَاand notيُطْعِمُواthey feed
And that they eat but do not feed.
وَأَنْand thatيَتَحَدَّثُواthey talkعَنْaboutغَيْرِهِمْothers
And that they talk about others.
وَلَاand notيُبَالُونَthey careأَنْthatيُتَحَدَّثَit is talkedعَنْهُمْabout them
And they do not care that it is talked about them.
وَهُمْand theyشِرَارُevil ofالنَّاسِpeople
And they are the evil of people.
ثُمَّthenقَالَhe said
Then he said.
اجْلِسْsitمُعَاوِيَةُMuawiya
Sit down, Muawiya.
وَهُوَand heفِيinمَرْتَبَةِrank ofالْخِلَافَةِthe caliphate
And he was in the rank of the caliphate.
وَفِيand inالسَّطْحِthe roofمِنْof
