الْبَرَكَةُBarakaكَثِيرَةُmanyالْفَوَائِدِbenefits،,
Baraka has many benefits.
وَهِيَand itتَنُوبُsubstitutesعَنِforالْغَدَاءِlunch،,
And it substitutes for lunch.
وَلَهَاand it hasنَفْخَةٌa puffinessتُغْنِيsufficingعَنِforالْعَشَاءِdinner..
And it has a puffiness that suffices for dinner.
وَكُلُّand everythingشَيْءٍthingمِنَfromالْإِحْسَاءِsoupفَهُوَso itيُغْنِيsufficesعَنْforطَلَبِrequestingالنَّبِيذِwineوَشُرْبِand drinkingالْمَاءِwater..
And any soup suffices for requesting wine and drinking water.
وَمَنْand whoeverتَحَسَّىsipsالْحَارَّhotعَرِقَsweat،,
And whoever sips hot soup sweats.
وَالْعَرَقُand sweatيَنْفُضُshakes offالْجِلْدَthe skinوَيُخْرِجُand brings outضَرَّharmالْجَوْفِof the belly..
And sweat shakes off the skin and brings out the harm of the belly.
وَهِيَand itتَمْلَأُfillsالنَّفْسَthe soulوَتَمْنَعُand preventsمِنَfromالتَّشَهِّيcraving..
And it fills the soul and prevents craving.
وَهِيَand itأَيْضًاalsoتُدْفِئُwarms،,
And it also warms.
فَيَقُومُso it standsذَلِكَthatفِيinأَجْوَافِهِمْtheir belliesمَقَامَin place ofفَحْمِcharcoalالْكَانُونِof the brazierمِنْfromخَارِجٍoutside..
So that stands in their bellies in place of charcoal of the brazier from outside.
وَحَسْوُand sippingالْحَارِّhotيُغْنِيsufficesعَنِforالْوَقُودِfuel،,
And sipping hot soup suffices for fuel.
وَعَنْand forلُبْسِwearingالْحَشْوِpadded garment..
And for wearing a padded garment.
وَالْوَقُودُand fuelيُسَوِّدُblackensكُلَّeveryشَيْءٍthingوَيُنَتِّنُهُand makes it stink..
And fuel blackens everything and makes it stink.
وَهُوَand itسَرِيعٌquickفِيinالْهَضْمِdigestion،,
And it is quick in digestion.
وَصَاحِبُهُand its companionبِعَرَضِexposed toحَرِيقٍfire،,
And its companion is exposed to fire.
وَيَذْهَبُand goesفِيinثَمَنِهِits priceالْمَالُmoneyالْعَظِيمُgreat..
And great money goes in its price.
وَشَرُّand the worstشَيْءٍthingفِيهِin itأَنَّthatمَنْwhoeverتَعَوَّدَهُaccustomed to itلَمْnotيُدْفِئْهُwarms himشَيْءٌthingسِوَاهُother than it..
And the worst thing in it is that whoever accustoms to it, nothing else warms him.
فَعَلَيْكَso upon youيَاOأَبَاfather ofعُثْمَانَUthmanبِالْمُثَلَّثَةِwith the tharida،,
So upon you, O Abu Uthman, with the tharida (bread soaked in broth).
وَاعْلَمْand knowأَنَّهَاthat itلَاnotتَكُونُisإِلَّاexceptفِيinمَنَازِلِhousesالْمَشْيَخَةِelders،,
And know that it is only in the houses of elders.
وَأَصْحَابِand companionsالتَّجْرِبَةِexperience..
And companions of experience.
فَخُذْهَاso take itمِنْfromحَكِيمٍwiseمُجَرَّبٍtestedوَمِنْand fromنَاصِحٍadvisorمُشْفِقٍcompassionate..
So take it from a tested wise man and from a compassionate advisor.
وَكَانَand he wasلَاnotيُفَارِقُseparatingمَنَازِلَhousesإِخْوَانِهِof his brothers،,
And he would not leave the houses of his brothers.
وَإِخْوَانُهُand his brothersمَخَاصِيبُwealthyمَتَارِيبُgenerous،,
And his brothers were wealthy and generous.
أَصْحَابُcompanions ofنَفْحٍbountyوَتَرَفٍluxury،,
Companions of bounty and luxury.
وَكَانُواand they wereيُحْفُونَهُhonoring himوَيُدَلِّلُونَهُand pampering him،,
And they were honoring him and pampering him.
وَيُفَكِّهُونَهُand entertaining himوَيُحَكِّمُونَهُand letting him judge،,
And entertaining him and letting him judge.
وَلَمْand notيَشُكُّواthey doubtedأَنَّهُthat heسَيَدْعُوهُمْwill invite themمَرَّةًonce،,
And they did not doubt that he would invite them once.
وَأَنْand thatيَجْعَلُواthey makeبَيْتَهُhis houseنُزْهَةًa place of amusementوَنَشْوَةًand delight..
And that they would make his house a place of amusement and delight.
فَلَمَّاthen whenطَالَlongتَغَافُلُهُhis disregarding،,
Then when his disregarding became long.
وَطَالَتْand became longمُدَافَعَتُهُhis postponing،,
And his postponing became long.
وَعَرَّضُواand they hintedلَهُto himبِذَلِكَabout thatفَتَغَافَلَso he disregarded،,
And they hinted to him about that, so he disregarded.
وَصَرَّحُواand they made explicitلَهُto him..
And they made it explicit to him.
فَلَمَّاthen whenامْتَنَعَhe refusedقَالُواthey said:َ:
Then when he refused, they said:
اجْعَلْهَاmake itدَعْوَةًan invitationلَيْسَnotلَهَاfor itأُخْتٌsister..
Make it an invitation that has no sister (i.e., one and only).
فَلَمَّاthen whenبَلَغَreachedمِنْهُfrom himوَمِنْهُمْand from themالْمَجْهُودُthe utmost effort،,
Then when the utmost effort was reached from him and them.
اتَّخَذَhe preparedلَهُمْfor themطَعِيمًاfoodخَفِيفًاlight،,
He prepared for them light food.
شَهِيًّاappetizingمَلِيحًاpleasant،,
Appetizing and pleasant.
لَاnotثَمَنَpriceلَهُfor it،,
Having no price.
وَلَاand notمَئُونَةَtroubleفِيهِin it..
And no trouble in it.
فَلَمَّاthen whenأَكَلُواthey ateوَغَسَلُواand washedأَيْدِيَهُمْtheir handsأَقْبَلَturnedعَلَيْهِمْto themفَقَالَand said:َ:
Then when they ate and washed their hands, he turned to them and said:
أَسْأَلُكُمْI ask youبِالَّذِيby Him whoلَاnotشَيْءَthingأَعْظَمُgreaterمِنْهُthan Him،,
I ask you by Him than whom nothing is greater.
أَنَاIالسَّاعَةَnowأَيْسَرُmore at easeوَأَغْنَىand richerأَوْorقَبْلَbeforeأَنْthatتَأْكُلُواyou eatطَعَامِيmy food؟?
Am I now more at ease and richer or before you ate my food?
قَالُواthey said:َ:
They said:
مَاnotنَشُكُّwe doubtأَنَّكَthat you،,
We do not doubt that you.
حِينَwhenكُنْتَyou wereوَالطَّعَامُand the foodفِيinمِلْكِكَyour possession،,
When you were and the food was in your possession.
أَغْنَىricherوَأَيْسَرُand more at ease..
Richer and more at ease.
قَالَhe said:َ:
He said:
فَأَنَاso Iالسَّاعَةَnowأَقْرَبُcloserإِلَىtoالْفَقْرِpoverty،,
So am I now closer to poverty.
أَمْorتِلْكَthatالسَّاعَةِtime؟?
Or that time?
قَالُواthey said:َ:
They said:
بَلْratherأَنْتَyouالسَّاعَةَnowأَقْرَبُcloserإِلَىtoالْفَقْرِpoverty..
Rather, you are now closer to poverty.
قَالَhe said:َ:
He said:
فَمَنْso whoيَلُومُنِيblames meعَلَىforدَعْوَةِinvitation ofقَوْمٍpeopleقَرَّبُونِيthey brought me closerمِنَtoالْفَقْرِpoverty،,
So who blames me for an invitation of people who brought me closer to poverty.
فَإِنْfor ifكَانَwasلَاnotبُدَّavoidمِنْfromدَعْوَةٍan invitation،,
For if there is no avoiding an invitation.
فَهِيَthen itهَذِهِthis..
Then it is this.
