أَمَّاas forالْقَرْنُthe hornفَالْوَجْهُthe wayفِيهِin itمَعْرُوفٌis known

As for the horn, the way is known.

وَهُوَand it isأَنْthatيُجْعَلَit is madeمِنْهُfrom itكَالْخِطَافِ1like a hook

And it is that it is made into a hook.

وَيُسَمَّرُand is nailedفِيinجِذْعٍ2a trunk

⟦1⟧ and nailed into a trunk

مِنْofأَجْذَاعِthe trunksالسَّقْفِof the ceiling

⟦2⟧ of the ceiling beams.

فَيُعَلَّقُand is hungعَلَيْهِon itالزُّبْلُ3the dungوَالْكِيرَانُ4and the bellows

On it are hung dung ⟦3⟧ and bellows ⟦4⟧.

وَكُلُّand everythingمَاthatخِيفَis fearedعَلَيْهِfor itمِنْfromالْفَأْرِmice

And everything that is feared for it from mice

وَالنَّمْلِand antsوَالسَّنَانِيرِand catsوَبَنَاتِand beetlesوَرْدَانَ5Wardan

and ants, cats, beetles ⟦5⟧

وَالْحَيَّاتِand snakesوَغَيْرِand otherذَلِكَthat

and snakes, and so on.

وَأَمَّاand as forالْمِصْرَانُthe intestineفَإِنَّهُthen it isلِأَوْتَارِfor the stringsالْمِنْدَفَةِof the cotton fluffer

As for the intestine, it is for the strings of the cotton fluffer.

وَبِنَاand weإِلَىtoذَلِكَthatأَعْظَمُthe greatestالْحَاجَةِneed

And we have the greatest need for that.

وَأَمَّاand as forقَحْفُthe skullالرَّأْسِof the headوَاللَّحْيَانِand the two jawsوَسَائِرُand the restالْعِظَامِof the bones

As for the skull, the two jaws, and the rest of the bones

فَسَبِيلُهُits way isأَنْthatيُكْسَرَit is brokenبَعْدَafterأَنْthatيُعْرَقَit is sweated

Its way is that it is broken after it is sweated.

ثُمَّthenيُطْبَخَit is cookedفَمَاand whatارْتَفَعَrisesمِنْfromالدَّسَمِthe fat

Then it is cooked, and what of the fat rises

كَانَisلِلْمِصْبَاحِfor the lampوَلِلْإِدَامِ6and for the condimentوَلِلْعَصِيدَةِ7and for the porridge

is used for the lamp, for the condiment ⟦6⟧, and for the porridge ⟦7⟧.

وَلِغَيْرِand for otherذَلِكَthan that

and for other purposes.

ثُمَّthenتُؤْخَذُis takenتِلْكَthoseالْعِظَامُbonesفَيُوقَدُand is kindledبِهَاwith them

Then those bones are taken and kindled with them.

فَلَمْand notيَرَhas seenالنَّاسُpeopleوَقُودًاfuelقَطُّeverأَصْفَىclearerوَلَاnorأَحْسَنَbetterلَهَبًاflameمِنْهُthan it

People have never seen any fuel clearer or with a better flame than it.

وَإِذَاand whenكَانَتْit isكَذَلِكَsuchفَهِيَthen it isأَسْرَعُfasterفِيinالْقِدْرِthe pot

And when it is so, then it is faster in cooking the pot.

لِقِلَّةِbecause of fewمَاthat whichيُخَالِطُهَاmixes with itمِنْofالدُّخَانِsmoke

Because little smoke mixes with it.

وَأَمَّاand as forالْإِهَابُ8the hideفَالْجِلْدُthe skinنَفْسُهُitselfجِرَابٌ9a bag

As for the hide ⟦8⟧, the skin itself is a bag ⟦9⟧.

وَلِلصُّوفِand for the woolوُجُوهٌusesلَاnotتُعَدُّcan be counted

The wool has countless uses.

وَأَمَّاand as forالْفَرْثُ10the dungوَالْبَعْرُand the camel dungفَحَطَبٌis firewoodإِذَاifجُفِّفَit is driedعَجِيبٌwonderful

As for the dung ⟦10⟧ and the camel dung, it is wonderful firewood if dried.

ثُمَّthenقَالَتْshe said

Then she said:

بَقِيَremainsالْآنَnowعَلَيْنَاon usالِانْتِفَاعُthe benefitبِالدَّمِfrom the blood

Now it remains for us to benefit from the blood.

وَقَدْand indeedعَلِمْتُI knewأَنَّthatاللهَGodعَزَّmightyوَجَلَّand majestic

And I knew that God, mighty and majestic

لَمْnotيُحَرِّمْforbidمِنْofالدَّمِthe bloodالْمَسْفُوحِshedإِلَّاexceptأَكْلَهُeating itوَشُرْبَهُand drinking it

did not forbid of the shed blood except eating and drinking it.

وَأَنَّand thatلَهُfor itمَوَاضِعَplacesيَجُوزُis permissibleفِيهَاin themوَلَاand notيُمْنَعُis preventedمِنْهَاfrom them

And that it has places where it is permissible and not prevented from.

وَإِنْand ifأَنَاIلَمْnotأَقَعْI findعَلَىonعِلْمِknowledgeذَلِكَof that

And if I do not find knowledge of that

حَتَّىuntilيَرْضَعَhe/she suckles

until he suckles.
