وَقَالَ:And he said:
And he said:
لَاnotيَتَأَرَّى1he waits forلِمَاfor whatفِيinالْقَدَرِdestinyيَطْلُبُهُhe seeks it......وَلَاand notتَرَاهُyou see himأَمَامَin front ofالْقَوْمِthe peopleيَقْتَفِرُ2he follows
He does not wait for what destiny seeks, nor do you see him following the people.
وَقَالَ:And he said:
And he said:
لَاnotيُغْمِرُ3he fillsالسَّاقَ4the legمِنْfromأَيْنٍ5whereوَلَاand notوَصَمَ6defect......وَلَاand notيَعَضُّhe bitesعَلَىonشَرْسُوفِهِ7his ribالصَّفَرُthe hunger
He does not fill his leg from anywhere, nor has defect, nor does he bite on his rib from hunger.
وَالصَّفَرُAnd the hungerهِيَit isحَيَّاتُsnakesالْبُطُونِof belliesإِنَّمَاonlyتَكُونُit happensمِنَfromالْفُضُولِleftoversوَالتُّخَمِand indigestionوَمِنَand fromالْفَسَادِcorruptionوَالْبَشَمِand satietyوَشُرْبِand drinkingمُرَّةِbitterالنَّبِيذِwineوَغَنَّاهُand he sang to himالْمُغَنِّيthe singerفَشَقَّso he toreقَمِيصَهُhis shirtمِنَfromالطَّرَبِjoyفَقَالَso saidالْمَوْلَىthe masterلَهُto himيُقَالُcalledلَهُto him«الْمَحْلُو»al-Mahluوَهُوَand heإِلَىbesideجَنْبِهِhis side::
And hunger is the snakes of bellies, caused by excess and indigestion, by corruption and satiety, and drinking bitter wine. The singer sang to him, so he tore his shirt out of joy, so the master said to him, called al-Mahlu, who was beside him:
«شُقَّTearأَيْضًاalsoأَنْتَyouوَيْلَكَwoe to youقَمِيصَكَ»your shirt
"Tear your shirt too, woe to you!"
وَالْمَحْلُولُAnd al-Mahlulهَذَاthisمِنَfromالْآيَاتِ8the wonders
And this al-Mahlul is one of the wonders.
قَالَ:He said:«لَاNoوَاللهِby GodلَاnotأَشُقُّهُI will tear itوَلَيْسَand notلِيfor meغَيْرُهُ»other than it
He said: "No, by God, I will not tear it, for I have no other."
قَالَ:He said:«فَشُقَّهُThen tear itوَأَنَاand Iأَكْسُوكَwill clothe youغَدًا»tomorrow
He said: "Then tear it, and I will clothe you tomorrow."
«فَأَنَاThen Iأَشُقُّهُwill tear itغَدًا»tomorrow
"Then I will tear it tomorrow."
قَالَ:He said:«أَنَاIمَاwhatأَصْنَعُdo I doبِشَقِّكَwith your tearingلَهُof itغَدًا»tomorrow؟?
He said: "What do I do with your tearing it tomorrow?"
قَالَ:He said:«وَأَنَاAnd Iمَاwhatأَرْجُوdo I hopeمِنْfromشَقِّهِtearing itالسَّاعَةَ»right now؟?
He said: "And what do I hope from tearing it right now?"
فَلَمْAnd notأَسْمَعْI heardبِإِنْسَانٍof a personقَطُّeverيُقَايِسُbargainsوَيُنَاظِرُand arguesفِيinالْوَقْتِthe timeالَّذِيwhichإِنَّمَاonlyيُشَقُّis tornفِيهِin itالْقَمِيصُthe shirt
And I have never heard of a person who bargains and argues at the time when the shirt is torn.
