[Anecdotes of Filawayh:]

حَدَّثَتْنِيTold meامْرَأَةٌa womanتَعْرِفُwho knowsالْأُمُورَthe matters،,قَالَتْ:she said:

A woman who knows things told me, saying:

There was a funeral gathering in the neighborhood in which old women from the neighborhood's elders gathered.

فَلَمَّاWhenرَأَيْنَthey sawأَنَّthatأَهْلَthe people ofالْمَأْتَمِthe funeralقَدْhadأَقَمْنَestablishedالْمَنَاحَةَthe wailing،,اعْتَزَلْنَthey withdrewوَتَحَدَّثْنَand chatted..

When they saw that the family of the deceased had started the wailing, they withdrew and chatted.

فَبَيْنَاWhileهُنَّthey (fem.)فِيinحَدِيثِهِنَّtheir conversation،,إِذْsuddenlyذَكَرْنَthey mentionedبِرَّthe righteousness ofالْأَبْنَاءِsonsبِالْأُمَّهَاتِtowards mothers،,وَإِنْفَاقَهُمْand their spendingعَلَيْهِنَّon them..

While they were in their conversation, they mentioned the righteousness of sons towards mothers and their spending on them.

وَذَكَرَتْAnd mentionedكُلُّeachوَاحِدَةٍoneمِنْهُنَّof themمَاwhatيُولِيهَاhe does for herابْنُهَاher son..

And each one of them mentioned what her son does for her.

Then one of them said, while Filawayh's mother was silent,

and she was a righteous woman, and her son outwardly showed piety but was known for miserliness,

Why don't you tell us about your son as they do?

She said: He used to give me a dirham every Eid al-Adha.

And he has cut it off as well.

فَقَالَتْThen saidلَهَاto herالْمَرْأَةُ:the woman:وَمَاAnd whatكَانَwasيُجْرِيhe givingعَلَيْكِto youإِلَّاexceptدِرْهَمًاa dirham؟?

She said: He was not giving me except that, and indeed sometimes he would include one Eid al-Adha into another (i.e., delay it).

فَقَالَتْ:Then she said:فَقُلْتُI said::يَاOأُمَّmother ofفِيلَوَيْهِFilawayhوَكَيْفَand howيُدْخِلُdoes he includeأَضْحَىًEid al-AdhaفِيintoأَضْحَىًEid al-Adha؟?

Then she said: I said: O mother of Filawayh, how does he include Eid al-Adha into Eid al-Adha?

People indeed say that so-and-so included a month into a month, and a day into a day,

وَأَمَّاbut as forأَضْحَىًEid al-AdhaفِيintoأَضْحَىًEid al-Adha،,فَهَذَاthen thisشَيْءٌis a thingلِابْنِكِof your sonلَاnotيُشْرِكُهُshares with himفِيهِin itأَحَدٌanyone..

but as for Eid al-Adha into Eid al-Adha, this is something that no one shares with your son.
