Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds,
والصلاةand blessingsوالسلامand peaceعلىbe uponسيّدthe masterالمرسلينof the messengers,
and blessings and peace be upon the master of the messengers,
نبيّناour ProphetمحمّدMuhammadوعلىand uponآلهhis familyوصحبهand his companionsأجمعين،all,
our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his companions,
وبعدand thereafter......
and thereafter...
فقدIndeedاتّسمwas characterizedالعصرthe eraالعباسيthe Abbasidبثروةby wealthفكريةintellectualعارمةimmense
Indeed, the Abbasid era was characterized by immense intellectual wealth
تمثّلتrepresentedبالدراساتin studiesوالعلومand sciencesوالآدابand literatureوالآثارand worksالجمّة،abundant,
represented in abundant studies, sciences, literature, and works,
التيwhichظهرتappearedفيinمرحلةa phaseذهبية،golden,
which appeared in a golden phase,
كانit hadلهاfor itكبيرgreatالأثرimpactفيinتنميةdevelopingالأدبliterature
that had a great impact on developing literature,
وإغناءenrichingالتراثthe heritageالعربيArabicوتطويره.and developing it.
enriching the Arabic heritage, and developing it.
والملاحظAnd it is observedأنthatالعصرthe eraالعباسيAbbasidكانwasغنيّاrichبالأدباءin literatiوالشعراءand poets
And it is observed that the Abbasid era was rich in literati and poets
علىacrossاختلافallمراحه،its stages,
across all its stages,
وهذاand thisناشىءstemsعنfromالحياةthe lifeالثقافيةculturalالتيwhichازدهرتflourished
and this stems from the cultural life which flourished
سواءwhetherفيinكثرةabundanceالمدارسof schoolsوالعلومand sciencesوالحلقاتand circlesالتدريسية،educational,
whether in the abundance of schools, sciences, and educational circles,
أوorفيinتعدّدmultiplicityالأساتذةof professorsوكثرةand abundanceالمؤلفينof authors
or in the multiplicity of professors, abundance of authors,
وتضاعفmultiplicationالنتاجof outputوانتشارand spreadالثقافة.of culture.
multiplication of literary output, and spread of culture.
وإذاAnd ifعرفknownالعصرthe eraالعبّاسىAbbasidبالعصرas the eraالذهبي،golden,
And if the Abbasid era was known as the golden era,
فإنthenذهبيّتهits goldennessتلكthatرصّعتwas studdedبولادةwith the birthرجلof a manكبير،great,
then that goldenness of it was studded with the birth of a great man,
استطاعwho was ableأنtoيشكّلformقفزةa leapواسعةvastفيinميادينthe fieldsالأدبof literature
who was able to form a vast leap in the fields of literature,
واللغةlanguageوالإجتماعsociologyوالتأليفauthorshipوالكتابة،and writing,
language, sociology, authorship, and writing,
ألاnone otherوهوthanالجاحظAl-Jahizأحدoneأعلامof the figuresالكتابةof writingفيinالعصرthe eraالعبّاسيAbbasidالثاني.second.
none other than Al-Jahiz, one of the prominent figures of writing in the second Abbasid era.
